The MMO community is always looking for a new game. It happened with SW:TOR and it's happening now with GW2. First of all, GW1 sold over 7 million copies and that goodwill dwindled down to GW2. Second of all, people wanna get away from WoW and as usual there's no other GOOD MMO out in the market. 3rd no monthly sub. Good solid gameplay and you can play with your friends and guilds.
What else?

Has it been a success yet?
I am not being sceptical, it may turn out to be the best MMO in history for all i know, but i believe it is a little too early to judge it either way.
It must be Thursday, i never could get the hang of Thursdays.
It's a success because it's a great game, strong IP, strong developer brand (ANet - not NCSoft), enormous amount of hype and the business model it chose.
They basically made it a great deal to pick the game up, even if you sub to another game.
People need to give games six months before making major declarations.
Exceptions: HGL and Tabula Rasa.

LacedOpium: "So the question that begs to be asked is, if you are not interested in the game mechanics that define the MMORPG genre, then why are you playing an MMORPG?"
At the very least, they have put serious thought into examining all the facets of the MMO experience. Hopefully other companies get motivated to do the same thing in future MMOs.
(As if we'll ever need anothjer MMO! Ha!)

I guess you could say it is a success from the pre-sales, and that fact that everyone is in an overflow server. I put it down to the game being a labour of love, you have to love an mmo world to spend the years in it a successful mmo requires, and it really really helps if the devs love it too.
Why do you keep making so many threads (with the same underlying message) and not responding to them?
There. You are welcome.
This doom and gloom thread was brought to you by Chin Up the new ultra high caffeine soft drink for gamers who just need that boost of happiness after a long forum session.
Give people what they want!!!

Well first, they more or less got rid of moronic quest grinding that WoW and its clones love so much.
Second, they added slightly more interesting combat.
Third, they actually designed PvP well, which is the biggest draw of GW2.
Fourth, no monthly fee.
Fifth, a very transparent, long, advertisement campaign.
Sixth, good art.
I've noticed that too. I want to call it borderline baiting.
I wanna see people's reactions.
What explains Guild Wars 2's success?
Simple. Its buy2play so no mothly fees, even if the game was complety crap someone will hype it over and over again.

So if you notice that I'm no longer answering your nonsense, stop trying... because you just joined my block list.
First, it was 2004, second, WoW didn't do that.
In fact they left out the vast majority of features people liked.
WoW's success is more or less solely attributed to their marketing and brand name.

Wrong. Wow's success wasn't solely attributed to any ONE thing.
It was in fact partially attributed to collecting good features from other games and executing on them to the highest quality. If you know ANYTHING about Blizzard, you know... this is what they do.
It WAS largely attributed to the games increased accessibility, which is what brought new "gamers" of all ages to play.

That is exactly what i was thinking. The hype and fanboism is way out of control for GW2.
Grim Dawn, the next great action rpg!

Not to be rude or anything, but it is kinda '' too clear '' to see what will happen soon. Even if Guild Wars 2 turned out to be the worst game in the history, hype alone would make it successful looking at the model. Otherwise, it is the best title out in the industry nowadays, so i can´t see how it can fail.
I would say, it is the hater-blood, going in ur vanes, that make you so negative about GW2 ( in 90% of the threads u have commented ). However, reality is tough sometimes, that´s what will happen when the sales of GW2´s first month come out and the big facepalm will arrive, to hater I would say.
