Like people have said before: those were very different times when there was not as much knowledge about large-scale launches as there should be now. We can't tolerate certain mistakes to the extent we did then.
The OP lost money in game due to a glitch or something, she had to make use of customer support (something most of the posters had no need to do) and had a bad experience with them. That in turned influenced negatively on her opinion of the game, customer support being a part of it.
Is that it? Have i missed something? Cause if i got it right i dont understand the amount of negativity the OP is getting.

'exactly. Anyone else find it suspicious there's nothing specific in the post it's just a whole buncha complaining?
No
I've seen her post in the past to an almost nauseating degree about GW2 in several forums so I think she is actually frustrated. Which I very might as well too if I was in her shoes.
1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.
2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.
3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.
General observation here: Chickens. When chickens sees another chicken bleeding they will attack and peck that chicken to death.
Apparently GW2 fans do the same. Someone who has been a pretty good supporter of the game makes mention of doubting their feelings on the game and points out a few issues, the others suddenly turn and attack.
To the OP: I still think a reason the main forums were down as long as they were was not the fact they had issues with them, it was more to squelch the complaints and angry posts. Because the first place someone goes for help or official word on game issues is the main forums.
Yes, it is a good idea to force the complaints to a more public forum like Facebook and Twitter.
The difference I would suppose be anonymity and extra work. If someone is going to take you seriously on facebook, you better have your real life picture there, but then you no longer have the anonymity to protect you. Not to mention everyone who refuses to use Twitter and Facebook for games.
The game is actually growing on me although frankly their customer service overall so far has been rather pitiful. Really no excuse for it.
Spot on.
I was really 'meh', but fell in love with an Asura Mesmer.
Havent delt with CS.
Did ask/vent last night in "map chat" about a story instance. Got a bunch of "you cant play/noob/log off" comments, so the same "online community" is there. To be fair I also recieved several tells filled with quality asisance. Basicly it confirmed my understanding of humans: some suck, some don't.
In truth, if it had a sub I'd be pissed since I hve felt my experiance has been slightly buggy, and I just started playing 2 days ago. That and I think I might hate the "over-flow-constant-popup-server" thing they have going on.
"incompetance", "game breaking", "criminal", "horrific".. Enough with the histrionics.
Kind of this. Also, I don't understand the topic in relation to the OP. Is the game bad or is the service bad? Both? Help me out here. I thought the game was pretty damn good before my pc took a dump, but I understand all the technical issues are not worked out yet.
Given that MMORPGs are the way they are, I wonder if not the "service" has to be considered to be unseparable from the game when we talk about the "game" nowadays.
Starting to think I may have been wrong about GW2 being the best game ever. Don't get me wrong its a great world, fun and engaging. However, the level of incompentance in addressing some rather serious game breaking issues aproaches a level of rediculous. On top of the failures of the development team to take these bugs head on and deal with them in a timely manner, the outright failure on the part of the support staff is nothing short of criminal.
Just do a base scan of the official account forums and you will quickly realize there are some horrific issues with the game that are not being dealt with in a timely or accurate manner.
Frankly I now understand the justification of paying a month subscription fee if that is what is required to provide a quality support team.
On a personal note so far I have lost $50 worth of gems, 7 gold, and everything that was in my primary bank box.
However compared to people that havent even been able to play the game at all yet due to account issues I consider myself doing good.
Ah, ha ha ha ha ha ha... I've played a lot of MMOs. I've never gotten anything but an automated email telling me to try the same generic steps -- until this game. I've never had a forum post that received anything but a generic cut-and-paste post -- until this one. And frankly, I've never been in one as responsive or quick in patching as this one:
In the past two days they fixed issues with the storyline steps "Fury of the Dead," "Grisly Shipment," and "In The Ruins," "A Light in the Darkness," "Estate of Decay," "Explosive Intellect," "Rumors of Trouble," "The Lost Chieftain's Return," and "Tribunes in Effigy." They changed the downed mode camera to maintain a more consistent distance taking race into account. They fixed the issue with parties not staying together as they travel into dungeons. They fixed with the storyline steps
They added an option to stop queueing for your home world, for players who want to remain on an overflow server indefinitely without being asked.
We found some cases where players didn't receive items after purchasing them on the gem store. We have records of all occurrences and are in the process of refunding gems to all affected players. Note that refunded gems will simply be added to your account's gem balance.
And tonight, there's an option to report gold sellers mailing you advertisements being put in. I'm sure there will be other fixes...
If u want the definition of incompetance, thievery, two faced lying, horrific, theft, then google Dark and Light if players today think they have it bad they really need a lesson in that horror show of a Mmorpg it might stop all this wineing at least.
I was there all the way through D&L,funny thing is i had a better time when it went FTP.
The forums are still alive and kicking, especially now it's being remade.
To the OP - please don't use "rediculous" in your support ticket or follow up posts on the support forum. If I saw that, I would think to myself "This idiot deserves everything they got".
MMO's are incredibly complex beasties & GW2 is one of the biggest launches in history, other than doing like a million betas and stress tests, there not much more a company can do to try and pre-empt insane techniacl issues that come with millions of people storming your onlne world. If you have been through a few MMO launches you all should know this.
To use the word criminal to describe Arena net almost made me shoot coffee out of my noes.
What would you compare it to WOW? Anyone care to share there opeing month experiences that happened there?
I'm not saying that GW2 is perfect and i know it sucks people are having problems but we need to have realistic.
I have every reason to belive Arena net is probably busting there collective Ass'es to try and fix this stuff.
In the grand scheme of things its a pretty good launch. Of what I've been at at launch, its; been better than Wow, daoc, war, Aoc & dcuo It's been worse than coh, rift & tsw It's been about the same as swtor & aion
I'm not talking quality of the games here, just quality of the launches.

For me personally SWTOR lauch was better than GW2. All basic features like mail, auction house, chat were working fine. Apart from long queues i had no problems. In GW2 i struggled to log in for a day or two because client was having problem, only to log in and get stuck in overflow to get kicked out again.

Launches have to be measured in scope as well. Considering that it was pretty damn good.
Sounds like all of the issues are with the cash shop, which I want no part of, and as such haven't used... And I haven't had a single bug or issues with the game...
So, how to play Guild Wars 2 without any issues? Stop using the f-ing cash shop!
The OP's account definitely was hacked. And while his anger is understandable, it's simply misdirected. First, such things happen in every multiplayer game. And second, blame hackers, not developers or support.
My support ticket was answered. Took CS a couple weeks so the issue was actually resolved long before that but they did answer. I wasn't hacked so I have no clue about how long it takes to get lost items/currency back but GW2 CS does work even if slowly.
MMORPG genre is dead. Long live MMOCS (Massively Multiplayer Online Cash Shop).
General observation here: Chickens. When chickens see another chicken bleeding they will attack and peck that chicken to death.

Anet is slowly getting things resolved for players, and they are attempting to keep people updated as much as possible. Simple fact is though, Anet was just not ready.
Reddit. Facebook. Twitter. Mutilple game sites. All extremely public and don't require ownership of the game in which to participate.
Sorry the OP has had some bad luck but its all percentages.
Most firms can pay on time 99.5% of their workforce. Great number but if a workforce has 5000 people that means 25 people aren't getting paid. It doesn't mean the company stinks.
Looking at GW2 I have no idea how many people are playing but if its around 500 and there are issues with 2% of the player base that means 10,000 people have issues. So I am not surprised the forum is hit hard but being cold about it, there is always going to be 1-2% having issues.
This is not taking into account, pc setup, internet provider etc etc etc.
I'm sorry, is that suppose to be the excuse that means people who are the unlucky few, shouldn't get upset or god forbid, vent? We all react differently to stimulus, whether it's postitve or negative in nature. I think it's more than a bit rude to tell people how they should feel about things that happen to them, as if your feelings should supercede theirs.
No. But there is a problem with calling people criminal. CRIMINAL. We're talking a crime. Fraud. Criminal negligence. Whatever the pathetic 'poor me' fantasy entails. And yet the reality is that (a) OP hasn't put on a single shred of proof and (b) the process has been shown to be both working and timely and (c) that OP actually doesn't tell us, beyond some vague generic claim of:
On a personal note so far I have lost $50 worth of gems, 7 gold, and everything that was in my primary bank box.
What the heck happened? How did the OP lose $50 worth of gems? How did the OP lose 7 gold? How did all the bank inventory disappear?
OP doesn't even tell us. I'm guessing a hack with that kind of damage. Which means OP bears responsiblity. No security system will work when the users of that system corrupt it with laziness, incompetence and apathy.
A game with a million + prepurchases has thousands of people with account problems. Sorry but that is less than 1% of prepurchases with issues. That does not even include sales after the fact. Acceptable margin of error if you ask me.
Sorry to hear you were one of the unlucky few. I would try to be patient. It is likely they are working on it, but as you said since this is not a sub game it may impact that speed in which bugs get squashed. However, do not forget that the current sub games out right now can take anywhere from 1 - 3 weeks to update or patch an issue, while GW2 has been patching every few days. I am not trying to make an excuse for the company, but I assume given their quick patches that they are trying to do right by the customer as best they can. I hope your issue gets resolved.

So yep SWTOR was smooth sailing in comparison.
On that I beg to differ. Maybe the GTC was "working" on Launch but it wasn't functional till 1.2 gave it a usable interface.
The OP re-uses an unsecure password and login combo with GW2 that has been used with some other site that has been compromised, and as a result of their own negligence gets brute force hacked, having their gold, gems and items liquidated to fund some overseas gold-framing site, and it is somehow Arena Net's fault?

Yes it was working as in sell and buy stuff in comparison to GW2 where it was offline for more than a week with ocaasional up time for an hour or so ina day.
