Yes, GW2 deserves the high scores it got from both "professionals" but also from the gamers. For the first time since 8 years, an AAA MMORPG dares to break the WoW mold, and succeeds at it by delivering a high quality game with innovative mechanics and a ton of content. It also dares to break the "raid or die" end game, which makes it even more recommendable, and adds back a PvP style that was long gone in the genre, world vs world vs world (aka siege warfare in huge areas, with engines, supplies, reinforcements, etc...).

As for the RPG element, [...]it's a medicore game at best.
It's the players who participate in making the "RPG" part... remember, it means Role Playing Game. If you don't get good RPG out of a multiplayer game, start by blaming the people you play with.
Just saying...
Uhhhh No....... RPG is about character development and advancement while playing a role.....
Exactly.
Single player RPG's are alot better at the actual RPG element than most MMO's.
At the red part. No. That has nothing to do with what an RPG is about. Regardless if it's an MMO or single player. By your logic ALL MMO's are infact RPG's as its the players participation that makes an RPG. Which it isn't.
Oh this will be good, if it doesn't go the way the avid fans want their will be hell to pay lol.
And to answer the OP, no i don't think Guild Bores 2 deserves the acclaim, the novelty soon wears off and you are left feeling, what is the point.
It has a few good things going for it but it's not the second coming like some over the top fans think.
Of course this is just my take on it but i found it boring as hell, hence the name Guild Bores 2.
Please name a game that has released in the last 3 years that you played and did not get bored of, or feel the novelty wore off quickly? I may be wrong but I feel that alot of the negative that people pile on MMOs (not just gw2) are negatives that are genre wide., Like complaining about the mass pvp zergfests.... name a game without that...
I may be wrong and you may be quite happy playing a game atm where the novelty has stayed in tact since release.
If you continue to make sweeping statements like you know what everyone everywhere thinks about a certain topic then I am going to shout at you. It easy to type 'I think this is the worst game ever' Rather than the 'This is the worst game ever'
It deserves accolades for being a great game (I firmly believe that).
But being a long-time MMORPG player, this game is not an MMORPG. So to give it any praise as that is simply underserving.
It's like saying "Pulp Fiction" is a brilliant comedy. Brilliant film, yes. Comedy? May have some elements but that hardly makes it one.
It's much more of a mmo than, say, SWTOR. I wonder what exactly defines a mmo in some people's minds, monthly subscription, lol? It's at least as much a mmo as a WoW is, and if you don't consider WoW a mmo, then...
Yes it deserves the critical acclaim, find me an mmo that is better than guild wars 2 and i'll play it, until then i'll play the best mmo on the market.
Originally posted by Piiritus Well, in my very own very personal opinion GW2 is extremely shallow and mediocre game. Most Western MMOs are better than GW2 imo, even the old ones.
I don't play, so I have to base my opinion on the people I work with who are still playing the game. I'd say, "Yes". It has held the attention of several people I work with who get bored with MMOs after about a month or so. These are people who go from level 1 to top end raider in a few weeks or have a max level character of four or five classes in the same period of time. They are power players (ridiculous players, imo, but power players none the less). They show no signs of even slowing down, much less getting tired of the game.
I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.

Finding a better MMO for you would be waste of time because it is a very subjective matter. What is better for others won't be same for you. So only someone who is completely insane would take up your offer.

I do consider WoW an MMORPG. GW2 I do not. For me it lacks too many RPG elements to be considered one. Hence, I would call it an MMO but not an MMORPG.

1. RIFT, I played for 10 months, then let the swtor hype suck me in...
2. Swtor, I played for 3 months with a ridiculous amout of battle grounds played. If Ilum worked and rated bgs came on time. I may have been there longer.
3. TSW, I played 4 months including closed beta (still subbed) With an embarrassing amount of time /played. I will start back up full time as soon as there are some pvp updates.
GW2, I played for 3 weeks. I played a lot in those 3 weeks, hell my /played is probably still higher than a lot of the super supporters.
edit - Comon theme is games w/o wpvp lasted less than 5 months for me.

I guess for some, RPG = endless tiered gear grind as "end game". That was never what a RPG was all about, though, it's just WoW's success which forced "us" into that mindset. All RPG elements are in GW2 - but they aren't force fed to you, which may confuse some players who are used to be leash led to everything they have to do.

The biggest and most glaring are character advancement and focus.
Time to grab a bag of popcorn and a 6 pack of beer, this thread is giong to be clasic. I think gw2 is ok, just ok. Its not bad, but on the other hand its not that great either.

What exactly makes it "not an MMOPRG"? I bet you can't answer that question. Raiding does not equal an MMORPG.
For me, an MMORPG must have RPG elements. Namely, a character that I assume in a greater story which progresses throughout.
Raiding has nothing to do with it.
Ability progression is a big one for me. I really think GW2 dropped the ball with their ability/combat system. If it were more robust, knowing me I would still be playing.

It is an MMORPG, no matter what your opinion is. That is fact.
No, it is not a Sandbox and if yo only call those MMORPG's, then you are missing a huge amount of games.
WoW and GW2 have many traits that are similar, so calling one an MMORPG and the other not, is just your bias and not reality.

Yes, of course it does.
The relatively similar scores it got from both the reviewers and users on metacritic.com and similar sites speak volumes.

Ok this is how it works on these forums mostly...
If i love the game, all reviews are honest as long as they score it high.
If i hate the game and revieweres rate it high, they are surely paid off.
