Also, like a few others have mentioned, it is not your forum, it is theirs.
When someone wants to talk frankly about SWTOR, all I can say is, are you serious Raventree?
Only positive threads allowed on SWTOR forums, think about it ? =D
No feedback. Great idea. No feedback is what EA wants (better for business). With their system that is why they acost the SW IP, and drive the franchise into the mud.
Think about it. Fan feedback might make this game happen. No feedback because it gets squelched ... ahh .. big fail on EA and fans who supported that system.
sorry but they did not say nor imply that you cannot offer feedback in the original dev post that you posted.
it says they do not allow nonconstructive feedback, bashing the game or the game developers is not conductive feedback.
i don't go to he SWTOR forums but if its anything like this place i don't blame them one bit.
god forbid should people actually talk about the game rather than endlessly complain about how EA/BW failed.
is that constructive feedback? nope, it sure as hell is not.
constructive feedback is offering ways the game can improve or what is broken in the game.
unfortunately you would have to be a current player to offer feedback like that and i am willing to bet the vast majority of people that bash this game don't even play it.
so yeah,i don't blame them one bit for not allowing "nonconstructive feedback" which is the majority of the crap you see here too.
SWG was run by 2,5 devs for years after it had been bandoned before they finally pulled the plug...servers were desolate 2005 and onward......and still it kept running through microtransactions....so unless a new Star Wars franchose comes along, they could stretch this out for as many years as Sony did.
Thing is though that SWG was a cheap as chips to run, and the devs loved coding ....(broken record)
SWG never had microtransactions
Yes SWG did have microtransactions. It was started in 2008 and was called the Trading Card Game. You buy new packs of cards which gave you the ability to aquire in game items. This was on top of the subscription fee you paid. That's what microtransactions are. You buy a pack and it's luck of the draw what you ended up getting. No different than TOR's cartel packs.
MT are deliberate purchases from a store. The TCG was not exactly the same.
The only MT that SWG did that I would call MT was the stuffed tauntaun pet, which SOE put out for charity, and then SOE paid double.
With the Cartel packs you still get something from it, for your character, whereas with SWG you get nothing unless you are into the TCG itself, making it a more risky process, and less desirable to go for. I never touched the TCG packs with a barge pole, and only just got the 5 free that came with the subscription. I have however bought some packs in STO though, as even though you may not get the best stuff, you still get something.

Doesn't matter. Their forums. They can do whatever they want. This OP is really just making a mountain out of a molehill.
The OP is being nice and letting people know about the rules, so not to get into trouble.

Well the rules may not matter any longer anyways if nobody is around to enforce them. Since the latest round of firings, there have been some definite rule breaking posts lingering around for quite awhile now. The smaller mod team is overloaded it seems.

Again wrong. You could get podracers and paintings, all things that can be used in game.

It doesn't matter if you played the TCG or if you don't consider the TCG to be on the same level as the Cartel Market. It was still a microtransaction because it was an item you bought seperately from the subscription fee. Each new expansion to the TCG brought new cards and new in-game items that could be bought with real life cash.. SWG for the last three years of its life had microtransactions. Period. To say otherwise is being dishonest.
I see a lot of posts in this thread that are basically people attempting to sway dissenters from posting.
Why would you go to the trouble to debate the person who repeatedly posts negative posts about a game, if you are so "bored" of it? If it's "so annoying," and other invectives right out of the lexicon of a 14 year-old girl's complaint arsenal.
If you don't like negative posts, don't read them. As a hater I of course want you to read them, but it really is a waste of your time.
SWTOR killed SWG and attempted to take its fans. If you can't understand how this would create hatred, I suggest you read Machiavelli.

Nope I am not wrong. You did get podracers and paintings but only out of pot luck, and do not get it each and every time. I can open 15, 20 packs over 3 / 4 months and get nothing, then another time open 5 and get 2 things, but just doing that reminded me how much waste of money to actually buy those things. If I did not get the stuff in the free packs then did not bother. Do you get any ftee cartel packs with your monthly subscription to SWTOR? I don't think so. In STO in the packs you get get a random item but if you are lucky you get a special item. In SWG the only thing you get are cards, so like I say if you are not lucky to get the specail SWG item then you get nothing unless you are into the TCG itself and after the cards.
Anyway, you know what I am getting at, and SWG certainly did not have MicrotransactionS

uhh no it didn't, it was known far before release that this game would be nothing like SWG.
i blame those SWG fans for getting their hopes up to begin with and not realizing this isnt SWG 2.
seriously, am i supposed to take someone serious because they come here looking for things to bash on because they are still butt hurt over the fact that SWTOR is not a SWG style of game?

All of which is irrelevant. As long as players were able to pay money for them that makes them microtransactions.

Yes, you're trying to pee on my leg and claim that it is rain.

Only in superniceguy world. In the real world, SWG offered virtual cardpacks for real life cash. That is fact. That makes them microtransactions. Period. You can have your own opinions but you can't have your own facts. Sorry.

are you kidding me? how childish is that?
You are incorrect. The licensing agreement killed SWG in favor of SWTOR. The Star Wars MMO players became instant refugees with only one possible port to sail toward. The other choice was to go to some other game and eat your love of Star Wars.
I imagine you will take it as seriously as I take you being butt hurt over someone not liking your game.

It was only one thing that gave a random item from the cards from the TCG, and for a FACT it was for the TCG, and not SWG. SWG never had a cash shop where you go to buy stuff. The transactions were done from the TCG or website, not SWG itself. The reason you think what you do is because you never touched it, and just assumed thats how it worked. If you ignored the TCG program, then you saw no signs of the stuff.
I am still not sure how reading Machiavelli will help me understand this unless maybe that Bioware/EA, in trying to decide between being loved or feared purposefully set out to be hated? Or that since they were already so hated they would set out to make other game developers fear them ?

first of all, i don't currently play this game but i do play it off and on. i don't care if people like or dislike SWTOR, what annoys me is when people that have no intention of ever playing it, are here and have been here for years looking for new things to bash on because BW/EA didn't make the game they wanted, its just so childish and whinny to be perfectly blunt.
secondly, you are making an assumption that SWG lost their licence because SWTOR was trying to steal their players away.
if you are not making that assumption then i definitely am correct.
if i was wrong then they wouldn't have said for over a year before release that this game wouldn't be like SWG.
there were countless threads about it here and you SWG vets and your false sense of entitlement still complained about it as if they lied to you or something.
that is your problem that you are still upset you don't have a game like SWG and are taking it out on another completely different game because they didn't make the game you wanted them to make.
its annoying and childish to say the least.
don't get me wrong, i understand being upset that they went in a different direction and made a different style of MMO when it was announced.
but really, its been well over 2 years since we have known this, its time to move on kids.

Well there is that. But I was referring to the idea that if you kill your enemy and take his stuff, you should also kill his family too, otherwise they will harbor hatred for you and war against your government for their loss. Would SWG have been left alive, or SWTOR been suitable as compensation, then Bioware would not have caused the hatred.
To be fair, Bioware is more like the evil tax collector set up by the leader, and then executed publicly after the leader's policies have been dealt to the people via that official. But I was mainly referrnig to the fact that the damages were dealt to the victim's sons, who now have a belly full of wrath.

Funny, since WHEN I CHECKED IT OUT MYSELF the last time I played SWG it was staring me in the face the first time I popped in letting me know about my free cards. Funny too that I could play the card game from within SWG and could aquire items that were used in the SWG world. Just give it up. You're making yourself look silly

1) I will cede that this is an assumption, but I believe it to be a high probability assumption.
2) It's easy for you to cast stones because you don't care about the issue. Stop wearing glasses, I don't need them so neither should you!
3) Everyone knew it wouldn't be SWG. Everyone knew SWG would close (after it was announced). Nobody knew how terrible SWTOR would be, and would continue to be. Thus it keeps cropping up.
4) I imagine people will move on when they are ready, and not at the behest of someone complaining about being annoyed by posts on a forum.

You could launch the TCG from SWG it gave you the option, but was not wise as seriosuly bogged down the computer, it was was also a separate game that could launch from the Station Launcher without SWG, and did not slow down the computer. SWG never had a shop unless you launched the TCG. As I never bought anything from the TCG I never even saw a shop in the TCG, I checked it out on the website, but there was certainly not any glaringly obvious microtransactions from SWG itself, and I was only told about the free packs if I launched the TCG. Some of my accounts I never got any free packs as I never launched the TCG on those accounts, because it was not in your face and I forgot all about it. You can not miss it in SWTOR there is gold round button constantly on your screen, and CM icons splattered all over various UI elements and your inventory.

No different than what the SWG vets had to put up with from the NGE fans. They were constantly told to get over it and move on. Some NGE fanboys even went out of their way to stalk the vet forum and constantly remind them that their game was over. One poster in particuliar even went out of his way to blame the NGE's low population on the bad word of mouth from the vets. Well, now the shoe is on the other foot. I personally don't care because all these games will shut down at some point but it is interesting to see some of the NGE fans not able to do what they had been telling the SWG Vets to do for years. And their numbers at shutdown were a heck of a lot smaller than the old game's was before it was changed. Also it's interesting that the hate has now moved over to TOR, a game whose only similiarity with the previous one is the IP. When TOR shuts down, will the hate end or will it carry over to the next STar Wars MMO if there even is one?

This is absolutely true. I Remember the way that went, and I played all 3 iterations of SWG. I left each time and came back, adapting to the game. Sometimes I would miss the 10 identical power handlers thing, but overall it was enough of the original that I could still like it. The Move On crowd annoyed me then too, but I did play the game so it wasn't so poignant to me.
I hope they never stop. It's amusing to see all this drama over a video game.
I'll admit to a certain amount of schadenfreude, but I would suggest it goes both ways as others delight in my unhappiness over this game.
I am a SWG vet and a NGE fan. I did not like the NGE one bit and played several MMOs to replace SWG pre-NGE, but also kept trying SWG NGE and not liking it, but then then one day just realised that it would never come back, and looked at it as though the pre-NGE never happened, and it was still a game that had plenty of things for me to do in it. SWTOR is good for so long, but at max level there is nothing for me to do in it (and quite a few others as that is why people left and it went F2P)
When SWTOR shuts down I will certainly not post negativly in these forums. If people want to reminise about the game, and say how wonderful it was, even though I think it was not, I will not bother.
If there is another SW MMO, as long as it is more of a MMO or B2P then I will stay play it and enjoy it.

most people dont hate the game, as such,,but swtor has polarized the playerbase more than any mmo
hardcores vs casuals
PVP vs PVE
subs vs F2P
and yes,,some of it will carry over, if they make another attempt
and if they do,,the next one will prolly be real cheap,,i dont think shareholders will go full out on the third strike

Hardcore vs. Casuals
Been around ever since WOW hit it big and brought the larger casual audience into MMOs. The hardcores get pissed every time a new thempark game gets released. Don't se how that can be contained.
PVP vs. PVE
Happens in every game I've ever played that offered PVP. The strict PVE folks think that they should never have to see PVP anywhere and also that every new update should be catered specifically to them. At least in TOR you don't have to hear jedi complaining about forced PVP just to roll the profession or bounty hunters complaining about god mode jedi.
Subs vs. FTP
Haven't really noticed this one. I'v notived some folks on this site complaining that they can't play the entire game for free, but I don't notice these complaints in game.

The OP is being nice and letting people know about the rules, so not to get into trouble.
Star Trek Online - Best Free MMORPG of 2012
Well the rules may not matter any longer anyways if nobody is around to enforce them. Since the latest round of firings, there have been some definite rule breaking posts lingering around for quite awhile now. The smaller mod team is overloaded it seems.

Star Trek Online - Best Free MMORPG of 2012
uhh no it didn't, it was known far before release that this game would be nothing like SWG.
i blame those SWG fans for getting their hopes up to begin with and not realizing this isnt SWG 2.
seriously, am i supposed to take someone serious because they come here looking for things to bash on because they are still butt hurt over the fact that SWTOR is not a SWG style of game?
are you kidding me? how childish is that?
Only in superniceguy world. In the real world, SWG offered virtual cardpacks for real life cash. That is fact. That makes them microtransactions. Period. You can have your own opinions but you can't have your own facts. Sorry.

Survivor of the great MMORPG Famine of 2011
It was only one thing that gave a random item from the cards from the TCG, and for a FACT it was for the TCG, and not SWG. SWG never had a cash shop where you go to buy stuff. The transactions were done from the TCG or website, not SWG itself. The reason you think what you do is because you never touched it, and just assumed thats how it worked. If you ignored the TCG program, then you saw no signs of the stuff.
Star Trek Online - Best Free MMORPG of 2012
first of all, i don't currently play this game but i do play it off and on. i don't care if people like or dislike SWTOR, what annoys me is when people that have no intention of ever playing it, are here and have been here for years looking for new things to bash on because BW/EA didn't make the game they wanted, its just so childish and whinny to be perfectly blunt.
secondly, you are making an assumption that SWG lost their licence because SWTOR was trying to steal their players away.
if you are not making that assumption then i definitely am correct.
if i was wrong then they wouldn't have said for over a year before release that this game wouldn't be like SWG.
there were countless threads about it here and you SWG vets and your false sense of entitlement still complained about it as if they lied to you or something.
that is your problem that you are still upset you don't have a game like SWG and are taking it out on another completely different game because they didn't make the game you wanted them to make.
its annoying and childish to say the least.
don't get me wrong, i understand being upset that they went in a different direction and made a different style of MMO when it was announced.
but really, its been well over 2 years since we have known this, its time to move on kids.

So now SWG and TCG were two completely different things that never crossed over?

If there is another game, the hate will continue.
