and yes,,some of it will carry over, if they make another attempt

and if they do,,the next one will prolly be  real cheap,,i dont think shareholders will go full out on the third strike

    Hardcore vs. Casuals

Been around ever since WOW hit it big and brought the larger casual audience into MMOs. The hardcores get pissed every time a new thempark game gets released. Don't se how that can be contained.

It's because it feels counterintuitive that new technology brings fewer choices. With each new game the nice stuff gets more and more scarce. I think the reaction makes sense, there is a perceived loss.

    PVP vs. PVE

Happens in every game I've ever played that offered PVP.  The strict PVE folks think that they should never have to see PVP anywhere and also that every new update should be catered specifically to them. At least in TOR you don't have to hear jedi complaining about forced PVP just to roll the profession or bounty hunters complaining about god mode jedi.

I once watched a jedi hold off more than 6 bounty hunters out in front of the coronet star port :) It may have been unbalanced, but it sure was entertaining.

    Subs vs. FTP

Haven't really noticed this one. I'v notived some folks on this site complaining that they can't play the entire game for free, but I don't notice these complaints in game.

Where this will show up is F2P being excluded fro things (guilds, raids, FPs). It won't be talked about, it will just happen (if it happens).

I borrowed your red text response style, in a complimentary manner of course.

    less entitlement is the answer

hardcores are a proportionally small segment,,it makes NO sense for them to expect any big games catering to theim

its like a champion runner signing up for a kindergarten race, and expecting them to adjust the rules

thats the price of success, you cant hide in the crowd anymore

the funny thing is,,according to several posts, there are already successful hardcore mmos on the market

but ofcourse , they will never have the big budgets of casual games,,again swtor is a shining example

they spent a big budget on a hardcore game,,we can see the results now

they simply cant keep it up,,theyve already skipped the class story lines,,one of their biggest pillars

the huge PVP battles from the videos,,those will never happen again

if that is success,,i wouldnt like to see, what a failure is

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery ;)

I didn't mind the god mode jedi back when they had to face perma death. That was why they were given the extra character slot in the first place. Those restrictions were in place because jedi were supposed to be rare in the time period that the game was set in.  But once they removed perma death it completely unbalanced the game and destroyed PVP. Why go overt if you know that you're going to be destroyed in seconds by jedi gank squads? It was also an immersion killer when those guys would show up in Bestine while Vader was visiting and flash their sabers for all to see.

For all of TOR's faults with their PVP, at least when I show up to fight in a warzone I know that I won't have to deal with any "I WIn" classes. Some might be more strong than others, but there isn't one class in the game that can win a 1 vs 6 fight.

    Currently Playing: World of Warcraft

interesting story,,but allowing all players to make a jedi didnt destroy PVP

it would actually make it fair for all, thereby removing your advantage

but im sure, when you were ganking other classes with your jedi, PVP was just fine , right?

as soon as the other guys got the same tools , as you,,that clearly broke the game

    PVP logic at its finest

as long as they can farm easy medals,,PVP is great

fair fights= tons of whine posts, and wintrading

  • simpliussimplius Member UncommonPosts: 1,134

yes , PVP was prolly better before , simply because there were so few jedis

too few , to make a big difference

and as soon as you give that power to all players,,things just go wrong

and that is the best argument against OPVP

imagine how that would go with todays playerbase

even worse in a BIG game,,yes the wow community decayed a lot in quality , with the rising numbers

back in the good old days, the guild leaders was much better at keeping order

this is why the mmo forums here are a joke and opinions should never be taken serious.

not really trying to flame here so i will stop now before i get myself in trouble, so we will just lave it at that.

    a big drama, yes

HUGE IP, years of waiting, killing SWG to make room for this one

there are lots of reasons for the strong emotions, and we all know, what those do to your perception

any opinion should be counted as that,,as one amongst many

the biggest part of the playerbase never visit the forums,,the casuals

when they dont have fun in a game, they just unsub , and leave,,no farewell posts

and that was the first group, who dropped this game,,about a million in the first 3 months

reading forums would have given them a clue, but they ignored it

    That isn't really fair.

The level of bullshit the likes of him have had to put up with because they enjoy this game and don't have issues as some others do has been pretty extreme over the months.

Can't really blame him for having that take. Especially considering the topic at hand.

The dude is no more to blame than anyone else. If anything he tends to be one of the more reasonable posters around here.

Even if he is wrong a lot :P

    1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.

    2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.

    3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.

posting is a privilege, that our ancestors  have fought and died for

or do you think, that they have many threads like this in north korea?

yes people are free to post their opinions,,from both sides

because, that is the only way to resolve any social problems,,through dialogue

so i can freely log into the battlefield site, and demand sparkling ponies and

    unicorn stickers EVERYWHERE

should i do that?,,or look for a game , that already have those

PS i really miss the muppets show,,,why dont they make an mmo ?

kermit vs miss piggy in PVP,,think of the possiblities

All I read from this, is that "my game is being criticized!" !! "Therefore the whole forum is a joke."  "Because I don't like or want any criticism for my game!"

"My game is perfect in any and every way.  It can solve the energy crisis it's so good."

"Any forum that participates in dicussions of the negatives for my game is an immediate failure."

"I won't tolerate this, yet I keep coming back."

yup,,BW is learning the hard way, that they have to listen to PAYING CUSTOMERS

i think , their RPG success worked against them on this:

their normal games was more a la carte,,finish the product, and deliver it

mmos are more like a restaurant, you buy a place, hire staff, and when the first customers arrive, then the REAL work begins

with such a big budget, they should have spent some top $$ on a experienced leader from another big mmo

giving  a big(and expensive) ship to a noob captain was a bad idea

PS even the legendary SirCopperfield is slacking,,his latest post barely made my Troll-o-meter twitch

and the latest Rolls Royce is fugly as...cant they make a decent loking car anymore?

this is the end of civilazation, as we know it

They had a ton of experienced people with years and years of working on MMOs working on SWTOR. They were all in high positions (Damion Schuber, Jeff Hickman, Dallas Dickinson (is he still around btw)) and they were all mostly fired.

    i said big mmo,,as successful

that means headhunting from wow, aion or EVE

those guys were all on the warhammer team , right?

so putting them on the job would pretty much guarantee its failure

someone with their work record would normally go for ½ of a normal workers pay,,or get fired
