Its rather hard to fill the gap for me consistently for such long times. Mostly I dipped back and forth between games for a while. Rift was the only game I really played consistently for a year for a good while since Vanilla > TBC transition in WoW. Ragnarok Online I did manage to dedicate a full year to beforehand though I'd say of all the games I've spent the most time on RO then any other game, just in spurts.
And actually... Runescape Might be on the list... waaaaay long ago. I played it quite a lot when I was younger when it was new before the very first graphics update and all that, was a top 100 smither cause I was no life boss like that. Then again it might of not been a full year playing considering how fast time seemed to fly then.
Edit: Hmm should mention a few others since its really hard to tell just how long I spent playing them consistantly over a full year time. Still, might as well mention them!
Final Fantasy 11
Diablo 2
Warcraft 3 (Hell yeah Custom games!)
Minecraft (Maybe... more on and off though consistant enough)
WoW and EQ. I've played close to 40 MMORPGs yet those were the only two that held my attention longer than a Starcraft, or League of Legends type game.

That because it was with that generation of MMOs after those (around 2004-2005) that the rise of the disposable MMO came into full effect. Play 30-60 days and on to the next one. MMOs weren't made to be played longer as all of the "content" was consumed in that time (30-60 days) and all that was left was raids and PvP, two things the majority of gamers don't do.

on and off i have played few titles over years like wow for example started on usa beta and been playing on and off thro all expansions. but never played any title over a year in a row.
to me man with one game is like man who only listen one band. scary.
What is strange to me about this thread is that people wear their long term play time like a badge of honor; like playing one game for a very long time is some kind of a virtue. I've always been slightly embarrassed by how much I play these games and how long I've played any one in particular.
Everquest I, City of Heroes, and WoW I played for over a year each. EQ 1 was my longest love affair.
Most of the games released more recently keep my attention for 2-6 months, depending on level of content and level of community douchebaggery.
I often end up going back and forth between games~Currently I am doing that with SWTOR, TSW, and GW 2.
I have modest hopes for Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn and high hopes for EQNext that will undoubtedly be crushed like a bug on the windshield of an 18 wheeler.

Whats wrong with feeling good about things that were fun? Maybe you look too much into things.
EverQuest, City of Heroes, World of Warcraft, and Wizard101 were all games I played for over 1 year without a break.
[EDIT] For those listing many of the older games (P2P), did you play them at the same time? I had a little bit of overlap (1 or 2 months) between my games if I switched out games. I know some players have kept multiple games going on simultaneously. Just curious.

Personally the only modern MMORPG trend that annoys me is the idea that MMOs need to be designed in a way to attract people who don't actually like MMOs. Which to me makes about as much sense as someone trying to figure out a way to get vegetarians to eat at their steakhouse. - FARGIN_WAR
nope, people listing here games they play lets say like " enter oldest mmo here " years, i bett like i said befoire nobody have played one mmo in a row for even year.
I played SWG for a couple of years and since I quit after the NGE, I have not played another MMO for more than 6-8 months at a time before playing the next one. I do go back to LotRO and AoC and these were the longest I played out of the other MMO's.
Some MMO's of late I could only manage a couple of months before hitting the uninstall and there's nothing on the horizon that has got me excited...yet.

Yup, the trend is crystal clear...
I played SWG exclusively from launch to NGE.
Then EVE exclusively for about 3 years.
Thereafter it was EVE constantly with the occasional 3-4 month "holiday" for playing one of the new disposable MMO's to level cap. The only exception was Fallen Earth, which I played for just over a year.
I don't believe I've ever played a classic themepark game for more than 4 months solidly, other than EQ2, which made it to about 7 months I think.
played quite a few games besides, but they were more in the line of trying them out to see if they were any good, mostly they werent for me, the shortest period i played a game for was 9 days, which was Aion but it only beat APB by a few days

WoW is the only one I've kept up regular play for over a year (I think it was over a year anyway).
FFXI I took a lot of short intermittent breaks from but my total regular play period for that has to be over two years.
Does religiously watching my buddies play SWG beta and then launch for a total of over a year before I (got the game and) quit myself count?
SWG - 2 years
VG:SOH - almost 2 years (played over a year after SWG got ruined then recently returned with the f2p model even though I'm a subscriber :-P)
I played SWG for a couple of years and since I quit after the NGE, I have not played another MMO for more than 6-8 months at a time before playing the next one. I do go back to LotRO and AoC and these were the longest I played out of the other MMO's.

Lineage II for 4 years total over a period of 6 years
Lord of the Rings online for 2 years total over a period of 5 years
