    3. Dark Fall

    4. TSW

    5. The Same MMO youve always played with different variations in names and graphic styles.

    Just keeping score:

    96 incorrect uses of LOL.

22 people that dont understand that this list isn't titled "the best mmo releases of 2013"

52 people that believe WoW is somehow better than games on this list.   Bigger does not equal better.

60 people that think rift should be on this list (which quite possibly could be the entire gaming population of that game right now)

30 people that think or have implied that MMORPG must have been paid to make this list.

32 people that think SWTOR is the worst game ever

65 people that think SWTOR should be on the list, but one slot higher or lower

88 people that agree with this but have their own list that differs by 1-2 titles suggesting they actually dont agree.

62 people that think this is "some kind of joke" or that they "must be joking".  Passive aggressive is bad. It makes you a jerk.

FYI "LOL" stands for Laughing Out Loud.  Use it when something would, O, IDK make you actually chuckle.    Quotes like "SWTOR is the worst thing ever created in the history of man and should not be on this list lol"  are stupid.   In what real world did you say that either while laughing or laugh audibly after that statement?  You didn't and you wouldn't unless you are a mentally handicapped supervillian.  LOL is not a way to end every opinion statement, or a way to voice disagreement.  Make your statement and stand by it.  Lol makes it hard to take you seriously.

Also, If your game has the feeling of ZERO population... it might not have made this list for a reason.  If only there was some descriptor word in MMO that had something to do with the size of population in the multiplayer online game.

Yeah, apart from Eve, this list sucks pretty hard. I'm waiting for DayZ standalone and then maybe TES online.

That's not an opinion, that's stupidity in text format.

Actually stupidity it text format would be saying something is better because it has more players...that would still make WoW #1 with Lineage 1 #2

However, I do agree with you on how MMORPG has opinions...because it sure doesn't seem to report on facts.

If I got PAID to do a job to make such an article, I would take the time to gather data from as many gaming sources from around the world and compile that list.

But that would make me a journalist, which is why im not in the field, since they don't employ those types anymore. However, I do thank you for such blind defense of the very article nobody agrees with, just to do it...and in a way that didn't help the person I was replying to in any way shape or form.

basing an opinion of "better" because they have more players didn't even defend his choices, since they still wouldn't even be on the list let alone the persons choices he was attempting to put down based on that assumption.

So you'd compile the opinion of all the major gaming websites and then average them together and make a list based on that? You do realize that it will still be opinion based and will very likely still conflict with the views of posters which apparently invalidates it completely? Also, this is the list according to the opinion of MMORPG.com staff. I figured that would be easily understandable, but I guess it's not.

You cheated by including many games that released before 2013... but that's fine... it's the "of 2013" in the title that led me to expect something different. Maybe just a quick edit...change the "of" for "in"? Just a thought...

his grammar is correct.  its your understanding of his statement that is not.

The title does not read "best MMO's RELEASED in 2013" for a reason.   He does use OF meaning IN which is grammatically correct.

If he typed IN, you would still complain.

I guess what you want is "the best mmo's currently available to play online right at this very moment"  which is kind of a bad headline.

Reading comprehension is hard, it is why they teach it in most schools.

Actually he makes the criteria very clear, he based his list off of the MMO's currently giving the most to their respective player bases. You can hear this right upfront at the beginning of the video. The disconnect is our presumption that the title The best MMOs of 2013 represents 'The Best' overall.

My disagreement comes with the comments about how much said game adds content/updates/fixes, just because they add quantity that doesn't mean its quality.

But based off his own stated criteria his list makes sense. Not my picks but I understand why he put each at their respective spots.

As for Rift since Storm Legion they have not kept the pace of additional content they did leading up to Storm Legion. Again this omission makes sense.

    Just my observations...

You do realize that the opinions here even as stated is based on what THEY like and THEY are gamers thus making a larger pool of opinions a larger pool of opinions of gamers and also that THEY stated that THEY included games based on their readers likes thus meaning taking what is said from a larger pool increases the pool of opinions from MORE gamers making anything taken a closer list of gamers likes and dislikes so in fact in so doing will make such a list closer to being the truth via a larger opinion base.

Yes, I did that with zero commas or periods on purpose because you seem to want to take what was said out of context, I replied to a person telling someone else that their opinion was wrong because the games on the list had more players, and THAT is what was targeted. A game is not better because it has a larger playerbase, and eve if it did, not even HIS games would be on the list, nor would this list be close to the same.

Just give it up. The main point was that when it comes to making lists of 'best or worst' games there is no such thing as  a 'FACT' no matter how many websites you take into consideration before putting up your list. it will still be an opinion.

there really isn't any great mmo's right now, the only ones i play are SWTOR and sometimes GW2 (its a little boring for me)

so i would say those are the two best right now IMO :)

so why the hell is a subpar wow in space on the list then?

This year is when things begin to change, this year ppl are starting to appreciate the TRUE mmorpg genre, the sandbox. Because, IMO, all the other mmorpgs (i think they'r more commonly named Themeparks) don't have replay value. I mean, if you like to log in, click on top of a monster head and get it's xp, you are a kid with nothing else to do.

fair enough 3 of the 7 are sandboxes

People who got a life don't want to do meaningless things in a mmorpg, it's a fact. A good mmorpg must have surprise and fear elements, each time you log in you'll have a different experience because everything is player-driven, not just a bunch of AI npcs standing there.

so why isnt ps2 in the list then, thats entirely player driven, has 3/4 million players per week and certainly isnt a "wow style mmo"

This genre need more full-loot pvp, player-crafter usefull stuff, building... just like UO, Darkfall, and from what i've heard, EvE.

Usually, people who like games such as Neverwinter, Wow, GW2, and all the cloned garbage, simply haven't tasted the REAL stuff, the REAL fear of death and adrenaline rush experiences that one can have when battling a Boss while a PK is on your tail just waiting to steal your reward.

i dont see GW2 as a clone game, it borrows a few things from daoc, war, rift and coh... but its a fairly unique package.  Its not like say how swtor and rift are to wow,

If you're not rdy for this, go back to the past decade, cuz 2013 it's going the right way.

Obviously ppl still love the WoW type of game, because it's more mainstream. But i have hope that ppl will start evolving to like more complex and social games, where it really feels alive.

You didn't get my point when u said ps2 (if you're talking about playstation2). What i meant with player driven is that the players craft the tools that u gonna use, the players are the real threat, the players help grow the villages, and so on.

Definitely GW2 is not a WoW clone, but if we split the mmorpg genre into some categories, they would be in the same one.

    BadSpock writes:

"Or, people could like different things and that is ok.

Go play UO, Darkfall, EvE, etc.

Me? I enjoyed playing UO about 1,000x more when they did the Trammel/Felucca split, but I still spent a good chunk of time on Siege Perilous which was only Felucca and had slower skill gains.

To each their own - a concept I really, really, really REALLY wish people on MMORPG.com would understand.

Quality is not subjective. Quality = polish, Polish = lack of bugs, game systems work as they're supposed to, service is available and performance is acceptable. etc.

Personal taste for game mechanics IS subjective. "

Personal taste is subjective, sure. It's like justin bieber. I think it's shit, but yet millions of ppl love it. And we could say justin bieber is very "polished".

What i mean is that, hopefully, ppl will start to realize that they've been playing the wrong games.

EVE Online is an awesome game and everyone should try it at least once (or twice) in their lives. I've been playing this game for almost 4 years, and even when I take a break, I can't stay away for very long, and I always find myself drawn back because of an interesting update or player intrigues.

If you'd like to try EVE Online, there's a 14 day trial and there's also a 21 day trial. You can get the 21 day trial by clicking on this link: https://secure.eveonline.com/trial/?invc=ddd0f597-abeb-4f06-9d73-f7f756a235f6&action=buddy

I also agree with Darkfall being on the list. I am starting to get really tired of the quests in mmorpgs. Honestly, it's just a different kind of grind. I'd rather the players make their own story than to grind my way through a thousand different variations of the same quest (kill 10 of x, activate y). If developers can't figure out a way to make questing more appealing/less mindless, then they should build systems that allow players to make their own story. Give me a game where I don't just feel like skipping over the quest text.

    Totally agree

where's the excitment about standart questing?

only if the quests were anything like "Slay the ogre army and then fly to the stone keep[...]"

or "bring me 2k of gold by picking the other players pockets"
