Great, a bunch of morons bashing a game they're not in beta for (I am) who i'll have to listen to bash it some more when the game is released and they play it but end up sucking at it.
Game still looks too MMO-y. I really don't like the "shininess" of the graphics engine, like how hair looks like shiny plastic. It looks bad and just reminds me of other generic, shitty MMOs. Most of all it doesn't like like Elder Scrolls.
I hope they just give it a sub. I'm tired of cash shops, they suck. Plus it'd further discourage me from playing it, making my choice to stay far away from it all the easier.
I am going to give it a try, for one reason it is not a clone game, it is a hybrid, has theme park and sandbox elements, a lot folks in this thread seem to have no clue what the game is about, and make silly comments, but I don't care ,I am still gona try it. I have played all the ES stand alone games over the past 20 years, I am looking forward to being able to play in an Elder Scrolls world with my friends..
I wish people would get off their damn high horses and quit bashing every freaking MMO before it even releases.
I love Elder Scrolls as much as the next person (been playing since Arena/Daggerfall). But jeez guys. Don't you realize that part of the problem is people having WAY to high of expectations for a game? And quite frankly, I don't think you guys know what you want...
They tell you you get an open world to explore across all of Tamriel. You bash it.
They tell you there will be faction lock in order to maintain the 'War' feel of the game. You bash it (even though you get 3 factions and not just 2).
They tell you, you will be able to visit the previous locations that you've seen in other ES games. You bash it.
They say the graphics, while being lowered ever so slightly, will be gorgeous. You bash it.
etc etc etc...
I'm sorry. I just don't see why anyone would pass on this game, just for the sake of some imagined bar of perfection that doesn't exist, and no one really knows what would be required to meet those expectations.
I'll be pre-ordering TESO ASAP, and I'll be sitting down and really letting myself sink into the world of Tamriel on release; fun stuff right along with the imperfections, simply because it's ONLY A GAME!
I'm really excited for this MMO... not because it's Elder Scrolls but because of how it's turning out. It's like the MMO experience I've been waiting for. Elder Scrolls Online is not going to feel like past games. It's a departure just like Final Fantasy XI was to a degree.
I am still in the "not sure if want" phase. The visuals look good. But stuff like this:
"I noticed that respawn times in this particular build were very fast. Given the length and difficulty of some of the battles, it was very easy to get caught by a second pack of monsters while still winded from the first."
REALLY makes me groan. Oh really? Again? You know how I HATE that. All this super fast respawn, you walk a path, kill mobs, and EVERYTHING is right back behind you.
And don't tell me "oh but maybe it changes", "it's only for beta"! IT NEVER IS. Games which had fast respawn in beta ALWAYS had fast respawn later just the same. It's an explorer's nightmare. No time just to wander relaxed and look around. It's what I loved about Elder Scrolls: that NOT every inch is packed with mobs and respawn is NOT within SECONDS!
In the screenshots with mountains, you can INSTANTLY see those are cosmetic mountains: none you can ever climb. Also a minus, which I guess came with the Hero Engine. SWTOR was full of confined areas and no-go areas.
*sigh*

The lack of full PvP and risk of losing your items as it should be for this game is a turn-off for me. Sounds like less risk then it should be for the game it's being based off of.
Separating into three factions? Is this to be like Dark Age of Camelot?
Quests I really do hope they have substance of the games, otherwise it's just another dull quest everywhere game. *Walks on by the 37th NPC in town offering a quest*
Exploring was what made ES fun, finding a dungeon and fighting whatever monsters in there and then the scaling of the monsters based off your new level. How many times I screwed myself by doing this and then fighting the main story in the early ones. Though it's the exploring I loved not the leveling, which is just another tiresome mechanic that can keep you away from your lower leveled friends. Skill Level... that's another story.
I was drawn to the article by mention of Daggerfall, but I am not sure where the comparisons are coming from. It appears you are comparing Skyrim to Elderscrolls Online? Daggerfall was a game and city that took place way before Skyrim, Morrowind, Oblivion et all.
I just dont see the Daggerfall connection. A pity as I was excited to revisit it.
Game now is jsut fancy pew-pew thingy without any note about balance and economy or gearing and end-game activity. And for know game looks attractively only for TES fans.
The more i read about this game the less i want to actually play it simply because the game reeks of a lot things which are miles apart from what an Elder Scrolls game should be in my opinion.
Heavy focus on PvP, locked factions (you will apparently be able to quest in other faction regions but will not see said faction players on screen....who the hell thought that was a good idea to begin with?) and similar things just don't cut it for the majority of ES series fans which is a shame indeed, they could have hit the jackpot with this IP in a MMO surrounding.
Its mainly for MMO crowed and suzie ford who play one hour skyrim hate inventory and never touch it again(im my humble opion not realy a true gamer) and those who easly hop from game to game.
Its a casual themepark who wanne play that lol not me.
True elder scroll solo fans (prolly majority of morrowind fans)will think twice before try this game.
