PvE Poll

kellian1kellian1 Member UncommonPosts: 238

Just because I think this would be a neat social experiment.

And yes before I begin I understand some people don't think a sandbox is really a sandbox without PvP...going with the theory that it is still a sandbox without. Just want to see how people vote on this one to compare it to the other poll.

So no PvP and just PvE what say you?

But we need pvp so we can complain about pvp stuff nonstop on the game forums?

So what in hell would you do in a sandbox game without PVP?

Plenty, harvest, craft, pve, be a merchant, and whatever player created content system they have that they are touting.  If they have item decay, people will need stuff renewed, non-instanced housing, decorations etc...

Could be plenty to do, I think they may have some system, but I do not think it will be the ffa pvp people are yelling for any time and any place.

I have played UO (6-8 years total), EQ (non pvp for 6-8 years total), Vanguard PvP server, Rift  PvP...So I am not opposed to playing PvP, and I also am not opposed to playing solely PvE, as EQ1 was (PvP servers were kind of thrown together and usually not too well done, so only played on them sparingly).

We will have to wait and see, but I personally usually do everything a mmo has to offer, including crafting/harvesting/merchant/side stuff/pve/pvp.  I am not a game hopper mmo wise, well feels like it recently, due to not likeing the over instanced junk that has been coming out.

I'd try it.  Well, assuming the rest of the game looked great.

But I'd also try it if it did have a PvP focus.

One of the greatest sandbox MMOs ever made was SWG.  PvP had little to nothing to do with it.

Having a fully PvE game allows the developers a better control of the immersion presented by their game world.

I'd prefer it to have little pvp or relegate the pvp on to specific servers.

    like the original

So yes,I wouldnt just play it,I'd be all over it.

Well I guess the steam was let out of the "non-consensual pvp" balloon.

Probably what the vast majority do in WoW where most don't touch PvP unless friends want em to.

Or what the people in DDO do where there is PvP areas, they are rarely used and have a very very VERY small crowd that PvP if any do at all.

I hope you aren't one of those that dismiss EVE as an example of a successful MMORPG built ground up around PVP.

Kinda odd how they prefer to do that than PvP...

Makes you wonder - people would prefer to que up for dungeons and loot versus run around PvPing.

That's like saying the only thing to do in EVE is to gate camp.  Both games have a lot more to em.

If Smedly is really aiming the game at full out pvp with full loot.  I think he shooting the game at the wrong bunch of folks.   EQ2 only has a couple of full out pvp servers, most of the folks who play don't do the pvp, or do it in the pvp instances.

I am not interested in pvp with my eq2 or eqnext.

I'd love an MMO with no PvP and really challenging PvE. It's probably not going to happen, though.

I am not.  EVE is also one of the most sucessful sandbox MMOs.  Unfortunately, despite having tried EVE for several months at at a time 3 or 4 times over the years, it's never managed to impress me with its PvE.

My point about SWG was that it's entirely possible to build a great sandbox MMO with no relevant PvP.  SWG did have PvP, but it was completely optional and not really necessary to getting the most out of the game.   If anything, EVE is the opposite example, it's an example of a great sandbox MMO with no relevant PvE.

A "sandbox-style" game that has a vast world of 1/2 dev 1/2 player content sounds absolutly great. You go and find your fun, not be lead there. PvP, when you want to do it, can add a great dynamic to my play but is not required.

PvE doesn't just mean instanced dungeons and raids but the importance on them in current titles is the problem. That's why I am excited about EQN. The closed in focus on instances and end game was never supposed to be the focus IMO. It was the journey to get there AND the endgame... which should branch out I the rest oftge content. Persistent and everlasting gameplay should be SoE's goal and I hope it is.

what i would really like would be sandbox w/o pvp, but with pve factions behaving like pvpers - attacking player cities in massive raids, roaming around in groups to hunt down lonely adventurers etc.

So instead of Us hunting NPCs, have the NPCs hunt us?

    That could be fun :)

so player cities as factions and then faction war? If so how is that not a type of pvp?

Does sound like some of the things they are aiming to implement with their integration of StoryBricks.

"InEverQuest Next, the world itself is a part of the game. What is the world in these other games? It's a simple backdrop. It's nothing. We are changing that greatly. We're changing what AI is in these games to a degree that we're going to bring life to the world. That to us is the essence of the change that we're making."

"Or image forests growing back after they're burned to the ground by invading forces. What we want is a dynamic world that gives all those other possibilities and doesn't just say OK, go to raid X with group composition of X, Y, Z, and kill the dragon for the 52nd time to get the tier 800 gear."

Played: EQ1 (10 Years), Guild Wars, Rift, TERA
Tried: EQ2, Vanguard, Lord of the Rings Online, Dungeons and Dragons Online, Runes of Magic and countless others...

Well said, and likewise from me :)

Personally the only modern MMORPG trend that annoys me is the idea that MMOs need to be designed in a way to attract people who don't actually like MMOs. Which to me makes about as much sense as someone trying to figure out a way to get vegetarians to eat at their steakhouse.
