I originally didn't think 2013 at all but the more I think about it the more I think maybe it really is going to come out this year. I think the argument that a few people have made that really does make sense is that they have black boxed this thing so hard to not let the competition copy their ideas that they wouldn't then release all of this information (and if you've looked at the panel line-up you know there is going to be a LOT of information as there are over 10 hours dedicated to EQNext at SOE Live) and then wait a long time to release the game, giving the competition exactly what their silence embargo has avoided, a chance to copy the ideas. So I now would say late this year or early next year.

See, I am suspecting pretty much the same thing. They have stated a lot of the assets are the same from version 1 of the project, so a lot of the work has been done for about maybe 4 years. The overhaul might not have required too much work thanks to that.
I suspect that the game will be revealed with a "You can download and begin playing 1 week/month from this date" sort of announcement (not saying it will be this, I could just see it happening to really throw everyone into a 'gotta have it!' tizzy)
I mean what better way to launch a game than to hit people with a barrage of info about the game and then a blitzkrieg launch before the info really has time to sit, fester and be dissected in peoples minds and forums.
But who knows, could be next year...
we shall find out in 34 days.

And that's the thing too, it is such a standard that mmo's announce and slowly trickle out info years before release that it may be part of their "doing things that other mmo's haven't done" to release super shortly after releasing real info.
I predict second half of 2014 or sometime in 2015. I don't think it will be released before Q3 2014 at the earliest and will most likely end up with a 2015 release.
Take a look at The Elder Scrolls Online and the massive amount of information available. It's scheduled for a Spring 2014 release. Then take a look at Wildstar. Wildstar is a bit further along than TESO and is supposed to be scheduled for a Q3/Q4 2013 release.
Nothing even remotely concrete about the release dates for either of them.
Wildstar development started in 2005.
The Elder Scrolls Online development started in 2007.
Everquest Next development started in 2008. The game was then redeveloped for a complete change in direction at an unknown point in time. Sometime after 2010 at the earliest.
Why would anybody expect EverQuest Next with virtually no concrete information or media available to release anytime soon? They could still have a lot of work to do considering how they decided to redevelop the game within the last couple years.

But again, they didn't start over 100%. They have stated the founding assets are still the same. So it is feasible that they could release way earlier than people expect.
Also, why stay in 'black box' mode then release info and then wait 12 more months to release? The whole point of being in a black box is to prevent other developers from being able to see/copy mechanics before the game has a chance to launch and make an impact. I mean for all we know that's the reason Blizzard pushed back 'Titan', so they can take a wait and see, hoping SOE would go "Here is EQ Next! Look at everything, this is how it works! You can play it in 2 years!" so they could throw a team at the info and build it fast and then release their game on or near EQ Next.
And everyone knows Blizzards penchant for announcing patches/expansions around the launch of new games to both retain their players and to steal a bit of thunder from the new game.
It would be like a weapon developer saying "We are making this really effective weapon, but we are not telling you what it is until Oct 22. Then on that date saying "Here is all the info, some pictures, specs and abilities. Oh and we plan on using this weapon to destroy Britain on August 15th 2015. Sure people will be in awe of this weapon, but by the time its deployed, The British will have backward engineered it, built it a thousand times as well as created counter measures for it.
I just have a feeling SOE is aiming to not give others much time to copy/emulate EQ Next before the game has time to prove itself.

If they started over from scratch I wouldn't expect this game to be in beta until 2016+. Heck, I don't think they would even announce it.
MMORPG's typically release information about mechanics, gameplay, media, footage, etc. sometime around 2 years before release.
The full reveal of Everquest Next will be in August. Two years from then would be somewhere around Q3 2015 by my estimate. Give or take a few months and I think 2015 is a pretty solid prediction. I mean, this is just going by the book and estimating based on the history of current and previously released games.
It's okay to be optimistic and what not but sometimes you have to be realistic.

Because if it was truly that far off, they would not bring it out of the black box imo....If they cannot have it out within 6-7 months from reveal, then they revealed it too early, imo...It seems like this would be the plan.
How many clueless people are going to show up talking about end of 2014, 2015 and 2016. Yes, geniuses, they have kept everything a secret so they can show it in a month then wait a year or two to launch it.

Every time I see how long those two games have been in development it is a real surprise to me. Wildstar is as close to a WoW clone as you can get, makes sense considering who is making it. Same for ESO, Skyrim + DAoC RvR, again due to who is making it. I'm sure both will be great, but the majority of the ideas are from other games with facelifts (again, not too much of that even).
While both are being developed by seasoned individuals, both companies are fairly new. SOE has 15+ years to bank on, not that the same players have been there all along.
I beleive I read that EQ1/EQ2 players are already using or "testing" early versions of systems that would be in EQN. Both dev teams were given some degree of access last year, who knows how much they are helping the EQN team. I'd assume they are at least alpha/beta testing.
From how EQN has been described so far, it is almost apples to oranges and I wouldn't expect EQN to follow the typical release schedule as what we are used to. I know I'm looking for all the planets to align, but it could happen.
Realistically, I'm sure EQN is going to borrow heavily from EQ/EQ2/VG/SWG. So they have a lot of material and past successes/failures to work with. Compared to other games that are starting from scratch.
I wouldn't be blown away if EQN was released Aug 5th or 2015. But I'm highly optimistic of it being earlier.
