But only to be expected; 10 year habit, in some cases.
Do you ever post anything on topic?
Do you?
Self-pity imprisons us in the walls of our own self-absorption. The whole world shrinks down to the size of our problem, and the more we dwell on it, the smaller we are and the larger the problem seems to grow.
And just because a game is stylized doesn't mean it's "WoW" stylized.
It said WoW in the OP post, can you read?
Can you? It also included Wildstar
Oh wow!.. now that you said Wildstar, it makes so much more sense. WoW was bad but now with Wildstar your argument suddenly makes complete sense.
I'm going to puke.
Tell me when you start making any sense.
and 'etc'(know what this means?)
But yes, it's not a good poll to name those two games. Of course people are going to interpreted it like you did. I don't blame you, it's to be expected.

Somebody, somewhere has better skills as you have, more experience as you have, is smarter than you, has more friends as you do and can stay online longer. Just pray he's not out to get you.
Seems you have an agenda and a dislike "stylised" graphics. I could care less.
I don't have an agenda. Wildstar and WoW graphics look horrendous. How any adult can enjoy these graphics is beyond me. If you like them, more power to you.
And that right there my friend...is an agenda. Your assumption is laughable and totally out there since nowhere have I stated preferring one over the other.
I can stand cartoony or stylized, but I hope they have long draw distances with mountains that aren't walls. I really dislike being guided the way I'm supposed to go.
My preference is for realistic if you can make all the races realistic.
btw the video is from 2010? that's one of the old videos and I don't believe I give it much weight as to what the game currently is like.
MMOs made in the art style of Crash Bandicoot, Jack and Dexter, Star fox are a deal breaker for me. If EQN goes the way of this art style then my days as a MMO fan are all but over.
I do want a more realistic MMO like VG. I have grown so tired of the over sized, bright colored armor and weapons. Remember what Project Copernicus looked like...
I don't think photorealism is necessary. That puts a huge drain on resources that can be much better spent creating a more living world. You can not have realism and still not be cartoony. For example, I don't think of SWG graphics as photorealistic, but they aren't cartoony either. WOW on the other hand is cartoony, but what they did with color, the ambient world feeling more alive, and the crisp smooth performance make up for it.
I think it really depends on the game. We just have to wait and see I guess. If the compromise is no photorealism, but a large open world that feels alive, I will happily step away from that standard.
I just hope whatever they do they do it well. You can have stylized graphics and have them look good (i.e. Gears of War). So as long as they make sure to give alot of customization options in character creation and have great animations it can look alittle cartoony.
Experience demands that man is the only animal which devours his own kind, for I can apply no milder term to the general prey of the rich on the poor.
Realistic Graphics requires far too much art and computer power in a game where you will have too many PCs and NPCs on the screen at the same time. If you fail just minorly with realistic graphics you fall right into the uncanny valley. It is far easier to get a satisfactory result with stylized graphics. Plus you are looking at epic fantasy. How do you really go realistic on dragons?
But yes, it's not a good poll to name those two games. Of course people are going to interpreted it like you did. I don't blame you, it's to be expected.
that 'etc.' in there doesn't help his argument, he will ignore it. =p
I think one problem is that people don't quite mean the same thing when they say stylized vs realistic. Some people are talking about the design of the characters, the world, and the assets. Others are talking specifically about the textures/polygon count.
So lets clarify. Take Farcry Blood Dragon for example. It has high end, realistic graphics. But it's highly stylized at the same time to look like an 80's TV show or movie.
Battlefield 3 went for ultra realistic on both graphics and style. The game's textures and use of high end effects are top notch and it tries to emulate in it's style a real modern military force, using modern military technology (M4's, M1 Tanks, Drones, etc)
Wildstar is stylized both in it's looks and in it's graphics. It has a cartoony textured look and the style of the characters are not photo realistic in their body features and proportions.
I feel EQN is going to be realistic in it's textures/graphics. It's going to have have high end, sharp graphics. But the way people dress, the weapon looks, the structures and other assets in the game are going to be stylish. It's going to have realistic graphics, but it's not going to look like a medieval setting.
Which I think it the perfect mix. It's going to have really sharp visuals we can be proud of but without having boring, run of the mill ultra-realistic medieval armor, weapons, clothing, buildings, etc.
Maybe now that I posted this people will be able to elaborate a little more on exactly what they like/don't like.

Look. I just dont want it to look "cartoonie" Not like WOW. Not like Wild Star. Not like Fire Fall. Not like Ragnarok 2. Not like Rift. etc.
Perhaps what im looking for are more on line with a mix of VG meets AA meets Black desert. Does that make sense to anyone?

While I prefer non-cartoony, it won't stop me from playing a game. Blotchy, ugly graphics (where stylized or realistic) will prevent me from playing a game.

Well that's my point. You can have high end graphics with realistic textures and models, but have a really stylized high-fantasy setting with over the top looking gear.
Some people are complaining thinking EQN will have "Dumbed down graphics"
Some people are complaining specifically about the style of the armor/clothing/weapons/buildings/etc in the picutres. (IE doesn't look medieval/realistic)
You can have one, or the other, or neither, or both.
EQN is using the same engine as Planetside 2, and that's one of the best looking games on the market. Under Crysis 3 and Metro, but not by much.
So you're going to get a high end graphical experience, with stylized high-fantasy fashion in game, on an engine that runs really well when there's a huge battle and lots of assets on screen. That make sense? At least, that's what all the art, the Zbrush picture, the fan fair pictures of the environment, and planetside 2 suggest.
EQN will look like
+
Hope this helps visualize what EQN is going to look like. It's not going to be "Cartoony" lol.
Originally posted by evilized stylized will hold up much better over time. SOE tried to make EQ 2 realistic and look how that turned out. the game looks like garbage 9 years later.
I seriously don't understand why I keep seeing this everywhere. This is completely untrue.
Look at EVE online - photorealistic aesthetic and it still looks fantastic. There is no reason to have to make a silly childish looking game and claim that it "ages better".

Yeah Eve with barely any graphics behind it is a great example.....

Barely any graphics? Have you ever looked at Eve?
DAoC also updated its graphics with every expansion and stayed looking great over time.

Maybe. Still shouldn't derail from the topic at hand. Stylized is far from simply being 'Like WoW'.
