But the mystery box could be anything! It could even be a boat.

I would consider it if it included access to a subscribers/founders only server.

To risky for the consumer?  It cost me 30 bucks to go see a 2hr movie in 3d with my wife, talk about risky(Lets say 40 with gas).  Yet people spend that and take a chance for 2hrs worth of fun/enjoyment, when in 3 months I could drive 2minutes to a redbox and rent the damn thing for a buck fifty.

I can see if it is a no name company and the first MMO it produced.  But its a known company (good or bad there obviously) but we know SOE is not going to shut the game down anytime soon, so obviously the risk is not in the company, but in the enjoyment that you will get out if it.  Guess that depends on how many months to you makes the reward outweigh the initial cost.  To me, personally its about 6 months.

Yes too risky, the last two occasions I have paid for a 12 month subscription to a game the game has gone F2P within six months.  On both occasions it was a 'name' company and on both occasions I had actually stopped playing the game because of changes made to the game after I subscribed that I found unacceptable.

From now on my rule is to subscribe for no more than 3 months at a time.

If the game is good, I wouldn't mind paying $400 to get my wife and I  "founder's packs", as long as it came with some nice perks.

    It's already f2p....

I never did in any of the other games I was way more interested in and didn't regret not buying it in any of them so....no I wouldn't buy it here either.

how is it for life, it allows you to play it for life, without actually commiting monthly. If you have played a game for 1 yr consecutively, you have spent 200$ with sub+box.  I know ill spend at least 1 yr in EQN, so its about value, ESPECIALLY if I can earn station cash as well for future expansions would be covered
How do you *know* you will play it for more than 1 year? What do you know about this MMO that nobody else does?

This is the type of player $200 "founderpacks" are seeking out.

IF it is a good MMO, sure the $200 up front is a great deal. Want to gamble that much on "ifs"?

Personally the only modern MMORPG trend that annoys me is the idea that MMOs need to be designed in a way to attract people who don't actually like MMOs. Which to me makes about as much sense as someone trying to figure out a way to get vegetarians to eat at their steakhouse.

I've seen games offer this several times over the years and not once would it have been beneficial for me to do it.....I would have gotten my money's worth in EQ1, Anarchy Online, and maybe WoW and that is about it...Also there is no way I pay 200 dollars without even seeing the game extensively first.

That would depend on two things:

    * Whats in the Founder Pack.

    * How much the collector's edition.

    * How I feel about the game after we get more information.

    Raquelis in various games
    Played: Everything
    Playing: Nioh 2, Civ6
    Wants: The World
Anticipating: Everquest Next Crowfall, Pantheon, Elden Ring

Tank - Healer - Support: The REAL Trinity

Well OP you missed something you actually touched on >>Station Cash. That tells you right there that you most definitely will not have access to the entire game.

There was nothing that Jorgenson said that did not surprise me,matter of fact he reassured all my thoughts. When he said nothing expected to be new but done a bit differently, that sounds exactly like a plan to reinforce cash shop into the game design. My original thought was they were going to sell in game plots of land at very high prices, maybe even create a bidding war among players.

I am not all that sure anymore, having open world plots costs money to run,i think they are more likely to just create a game that runs cheap like all f2p games do.I think SOE already has their cash cow,the dungeon maker did not work and with NW offering the same thing only for free, you can hardly charge for it.Their cash cow is housing,so i expect more instance housing at even higher prices than we are used to.

I am so sure SOE will ruin anything positive with their cash shop that i have very little hope for this game.I would rather play an inferior game than support cash shop.

To answer the question,i would have to try the game first and yes if i did have access to the ENTIRE game i would most certainly pay 200.

    ^ This

Once i see it in a few more weeks, we will more than likely shell out the money for Founder's Pack and/or CE or whatever they want to call it.

$400 for 2 life time Subs (i am still banking they go Free-mium a la EQ2), SC and other do-dads.... still one of the cheapest hobbies out there.
