Your patience indeed doesn't impress me. All that stuff got from me is a vague: "Hmm, now I have to do this again because I was blocked from that server." Ladybugs are not the only enemy in the game. If 2.5s is a slow GCD for you, I wonder if you ever played a TBS game; the majority of FF games are TBS or pseudo-TBS. Some of us prefer a more relaxed game.
You can't differentiate yourself in most end-game oriented MMO's, even with talent points, because there is usually an optimal spec anyway. FFXIV just doesn't pretend you have a choice.
Game has PvP, it's unlocked at level 30. PvP is not very relevant to an MMO's success, though, IMO.
It survives just fine for people who like games like Vanilla WoW and Vanilla Rift (SL ruined it, sorry). There are plenty of those out there. Move along now.
Favorite MMO: Vanilla WoW Currently playing: GW2, EVE Excited for: Wildstar, maybe?
However the cut scenes are really not my cup of tea . I want to play the game not watch some story which I don't care about.
Maybe if I was a FF fanboy I would enjoy watching them .
Well, it is a MMORPG, and RPG's usually have stories in them. I appreciate the amount of effort that SE puts into the RPG part of the genre. If I didn't like the story element I'd probably just play an FPS or a MOBA.
This game offers the best crafting and gathering systems I've played since SWG. I can definitely understand if thats not your cup of tea. But for players like myself, its home sweet home.
Say what? Could you please explain what makes it so great let alone as good as SWG? I worked my butt off to get my first heal potion and it was the same potion I was getting with ease as I leveled up. I had over 20 of these potions already. To say the least this was a huge let down.
Low level, low quality items.
Later on, you have an opportunity to improve the mats and the crafting process to create higher quality items. the stuff you are crafting is for low level repetition to get XP.
I'm not sure how you know this with a cap. Anyway, I don't want a crafting system and or leveling system that is all about end game. I want to be engaged in the leveling process of my combat and crafting character as I level. I might as well go back to Wow if its all about end game.
There is a difference between improving the quality of your items at level 10 and another at end game. It's not just end game. I'd suggest you at least read up on how the system is supposed to work before you write it off.
His post did not merit a response.
Name an MMORPG's crafting system that dd not require one to grind away with low level items, before being able to craft higher items? This is exactly what I mean by creating negative criticism where it is unwarranted.
Yes because wanting a game that is engaging while you level is a negative criticism that is unwarranted. Wanting a MMO that brings back fun while you level is negative criticism that is unwarranted. Let me see crafting in Lord of the Rings brings value to crafting as you level. Aion was the same way. Do I need to go on?
To me the entire expeirence was really boring and at times quite frusturating. The character creation is cool, but the game tanks rapidly from that point on. The opening cut scene riding the damn wagon was a test of my patience. My finger was sore within minutes from clicking through bubbles of text. A 2013 AAA mmo with a TON of cut scenes and no voice overs. Dont get me wrong I dont give 2 shits about cut scenes and story/lore but if your going to take the time and have us watch a cut scene for the love of god toss some bloody voices in there.
Got my first quest to kill some squirrels and ladybugs, while being pretty juvenile and unispring I was just happy to fire my damn bow at anything. Then to see the combats lightning fast 2.5s global cooldown. Was very thrilled when I hit my chacter tab and was able to see all the spells I was going to get for the rest of the game. Then I realized that there was no real talent points at all. When it comes down to it almost no character progression at all ... nothing to make me different then the other 9000 archers killinig ladybugs.
No pvp at all for me to attempt. Serious mistake not having that ready for a relaunch.
The game did have some pretty graphics and was VERY solid with almost no lag with a ton of players on.
Essentially though:
-painfull uninspired questing/cut scenes
-ultra slow and uninspired combat
-pvp?!???
Dont see how this one can survive. Tera is probably equally pretty and polished with a MUCH cooler combat system. Tera made the same mistake of releasing without a proper battleground and I think it did the game some serious harm. VERY poor summer for mmo and pc game releases. People are just REALLY bored. Hell im bored. At the end of the day f2p rift is a much better choice for this type of mmo.
Some things that might make this game more fun .. Get rid of the map . All I do is run around looking at the damn map lol. The awesome graphics are useless if I am looking at a 2d map to play game .
If I actually had to explore the game Im sure it would be more fun even tho it would be harder. Right now I click open map and watch a triangle move towards the objective .
Here's another crazy example of criticism where it is not warranted.
This poster blames the game because he goes around looking at the map instead of putting the map away and enjoying the awesome graphics. Whereas when I played the game, I only looked at the map once, got a general direction of where I had to go,put away the map and headed in that direction without having to look at the map again. Is it really the game's fault that you go around looking at the map instead of putting it away and enjoying the graphics.
I mean, who's really forcing you to run around looking at the map?
And then to cap it off, his solution would be to get rid of the map. So let me get this straight, you can't play without having the map open to handhold you toward everywhere you need to go, and your solution to make the game better is to .... get rid of the map?

Crafting/gathering has its own stats, resource pool, and special abilities you can perform during harvesting and synthesis. Harvesting skills can yeild high quality crafting materials. These include increasing quality, skilling a step to see the item mature, experimentation and more. Materia system and dyes for even more customization options.
Retainers can be customized (same interface as the character creator) and are your personal vendors.
I got to check out the instanced neighborhoods this beta and they are badass. 3 large houses, 7 mediums and 20 smalls each with enough land around them to place crops and/or a chocobo stable. There are numerous alcoves (5 on the beach in limsa) for placing your vendors. The neighborhoods are pretty big and with 30 houses, feels like a player city.
So we have the ability to experiment with item stats and appearance. We can gather higher quality resources. We have our own stats and gear. We have custom vendors. And we have a pretty close resemblance to a player city.
If you play mmos for crafting, housing, economy aspects (like me), then you owe it to yourself to give this game your time.
Most of the, "I dont like" , "this game is boring" , "the game offers nothing" comments are really not about the quality of the game lol, but prefrence.
Like its predicecor FFxiv embraces more of the SP feel and aspects of an RPG, really only one of the few IMO that can have the RPG at the end of mmoRPG
And honestly the voice over thingE is over rated look at SwTor, dont get me wrong, it was very cool and different, but after level 20ish a LOT of lines were repeated/reused/rehashed over and over again...
The opening cut scene riding the damn wagon was a test of my patience. My finger was sore within minutes from clicking through bubbles of text.
This is the crux of your issue. why are you playing a game that is more about story and lore and then complaining about it?
This game offers quite a lot. It offers a sort of quirky world with traditional mmo questing but with quite a few very nicely done cut scenes for quests with a very well thought out lore (whether one likes it or not is another thing) and very nicely done characters.
But if that thing doesn't grab you then it's clearly not for you.
My thought is that as soon as you found yourself clicking through bubbles you essentially should have realized that it wasn't the game for you and saved yourself the time it took to get 15 levels.
Quite frankly I think that is the issue for many players. Do some research, know what you are getting into. If it's not what you want and it offers things you dont' like do something else.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."
First 15 levels ie meh but once u get passed level 15 trust me the fun start and im glad I preordered this can't wait for early access im play the crap out of this game.
This game has an overwhelming fan base the proof is in the server congestion and the errors. There will always be that 2.5% trolls that will go in a thread and complain about the game ALL GAMES HAVE TROLLS IT NATURAL.
Really simple if you like the game play it and if you don't like the game just uninstall and leave why make a thread complaining about it especially not on the official game forums? probably knows he will get outnumbered and trolled back.

Thanks for the response and what you say interest me. The issue I have is it only going to come in to play at end game. I don't want another game that makes you grind to end game to start the game. My experience so far is crafting (Alchemy) is pretty worthless as you level.

You're welcome
I will say that I am selling almost everything I make that I don't need. I am currently leveling botany, leatherwork, and carpentry. Most of the stuff I make is basic quality but I am only levels 12-15 on them. But they get me the gil I need to buy the resources I cant get for myself to craft better items. I played SWG at launch and was the 2nd Master Droid Engineer on Bria and that was an eye bleeding grind. I wasn't making end game quality items for months after that. So I guess the fact that I'm making mediocre sandals as a level 11 leatherworker after one day of playing doesnt bother me much.

Respect your opinion but its hard to see the validity when it's a known fact levels 1-15 are the tutorials. This game really takes off after level 20. Actually after 15, it gets interesting as things open up a bit. They make f2p games for people who can't handle the old school type of mmo's.
Honestly...first time I actually stopped reading through an opening. Usually I give the benefit of the doubt and truck on through, but couldn't this time. Had to stop after OP lost his patience with the opening cut scene.
hate on OP all you want. His points are very valid to myself and likely many others.
I am not a PvP junkie. I aim more towards the PvE but this game doesn't even cater to us with their uninspiring quests. I respect their turn-based 'feeling' combat but it just never felt right to me in an MMO with other players.
Perhaps I picked wrong: Thaumaturge...but I was bored as hell all the way to 10 EXCEPT for some of the cutscenes. I did really enjoy the cutscene with the noble Lalafell praying under the tree. I purred with joy when it had voice acting. The main story looks like it will be interesting and feel very much so like Final Fantasy but most other quests feel like fillers.
Say what you will but when Blizzard revamped the lowbie quests in Cataclysm almost every single damned quest felt unique and worth doing (especially the Foresaken)
"What you call Sylvannas? Oh no you didn't, Garrosh!"
FFXIV quests were highly aggravating at times and not in the good, I'm being challenged, way either. For instance...it made not a lick of sense that I had to leave the coffin bar and climb up around a cliff to take the 4th man's order when Rodger the bartender never even hinted at perhaps checking with him. First 3 guys were right in the bar...
What were the quest writers thinking? Were they picking their nose while blankly staring at one another with a shit eatting grin chortling "hurr hurr..that'll get em!"...In the context of a role player or someone seeking any immersion it MADE NO EFFING SENSE..

Or maybe its just a poorly written quest. If they want us to explore get rid of the quest tracker and write better quests.

Your comment presumes that I do not love exploring 3D rendered worlds. I have you know that one of the first things I did back in 1999 in EverQuest was take my enchanter from Fellwithe to Erudin and all around to do two things: See the world and figure out the Stein of Moggok quest.

No, wanting a game that is engaging while you level is not negative criticism that is unwarranted? Nor is it wanting an MMO that brings back fun while you level negative or unwarranted criticism.
Nothing that you talked about in your post has anything to do with what I i said in my post, nor is it what the poster was alluding to. And I'm not going to bother explaining it to you. Get back to me when you improve your reading comprehension.
Somebody, somewhere has better skills as you have, more experience as you have, is smarter than you, has more friends as you do and can stay online longer. Just pray he's not out to get you.
Strange since your post was in response to my post I got the impression that it was to me go figure. :P

Honestly...first time I actually stopped reading through an opening. Usually I give the benefit of the doubt and truck on through, but couldn't this time. Had to stop after OP lost his patience with the opening cut scene.
The.
Opening.
Cut.
Scene.
Sigh.
hate on OP all you want.
Were they picking their nose while blankly staring at one another with a shit eatting grin chortling "hurr hurr..that'll get em!"...In the context of a role player or someone seeking any immersion it MADE NO EFFING SENSE..
..yeah. I'm waiting for EverQuest Next.
Just goes to show you that my responses aren't personal. I respond to what is posted. Not the poster posting it. I made my point. Everything else is irrelevant.
That quest got me too and a few others based on chat. I get the what the hell were they thinking a few times while I was playing. All I can say is they sure seem to have a fascination with girls panties. :P
Maybe they were, oh I don't know....having players explore a bit? I have seen so many people whine about how SE nerfed the "difficulty" of the game and then something like this comes along...another sigh.
Or maybe its just a poorly written quest. If they want us to explore get rid of the quest tracker and write better quests.
Now you're grasping.
That is ignoring what I found an issue in. /sigh/.../sigh/sigh/sigh/ ...I can type as many sighs as you and in doing so does nothing to represent my superior intellect or insight.
Your comment presumes that I do not love exploring 3D rendered worlds. I have you know that one of the first things I did back in 1999 in EverQuest was take my enchanter from Fellwithe to Erudin and all around to do two things: See the world and figure out the Stein of Moggok quest.
