Hmm I tike the tab target system in WOW, combat and pvp is so fluid (Try playing wow after some FFXVI lol its like a dream!) I don't think action combat is the way to go.

Wow is really good as it is an attempt to turn it into GW2 would likely fail!

I do think the Warzone continent and console ideas are great though.

Do you have problem with targeting with TAB or just have problem with the idea of targeting? if you have problem with tab, change your key binding and put it somewhere else. if you have problem with the concept of targeting then your wish for next gen console addition becomes hollow, why? because almost all of the console rpg has targeting, like using R1,R2,L1,L2 for targeting. you have to clarify your 5th point before i make decision about your 1st point.

Now about your 4th point : i agree that we need a massive open world pvp zone but not in a RTS mode, i just simply don't want LoL/DoTA 2 in WoW. This zone should come with lots of dynamic pvp events and must be OPEN WORLD, no more instanced pvp. this zone should have significance enough in game so that even crafters or gatherers would like to come here for epic crafting items not to mention even hardcore pve players.

3rd point : i agree to an extent, i wish that blizz would stop handing gears like free pop corn. and reduce the stat jump between tiers. they have to make sure that end game gears of one expansion remain viable for at least half the content of new expansion. so they need to minimize the stats number gap between the tiers.

2nd point : i think there should be an appreciation toward players who are playing for 5 years or more. i know many here will hate this idea of mine but i think that blizzard should give 50% discount to subscription to players who have at least paid for 60 months subscription. also they should get an in game title : Herald of Warcraft. these players should also get a 25% discount on new expansion purchase and in WoW store. that is what i think would really show older players that blizzard care about them and bring them back if anyone has already left.

Boobs are LIFE, Boobs are LOVE, Boobs are JUSTICE, Boobs are mankind's HOPES and DREAMS. People who complain about boobs have lost their humanity.

+1, I don't really see any reason to get rid of tab targeting either.

Bringing back talent trees would be my biggest one. Remember when "your" build actually suited how you played the game? Now it's like 2 builds per class is plenty and if you don't adhere to those then you're not doing it right.

100% disagree actually the trees had 1 build that was 100% superior now there are many viable skill options. This holds up in PVE and PVP.

I have played both systems  and the reality is the opposite of what you portray.

This is a bad list imo.  I think the writer just wants GW2, which while not a bad game, no thanks.  The last thing we need is for all MMOs to streamline even further and be the same.

Also, the gear grind in WoW is a joke.  You have LFR and almost every other patch there is a gear catch-up.  I can see how people dislike the loot system, but not for being too hard or tedious.

    1. New race's

    2. New Lands

    3. Player Houseing and Guild Halls

    4. Free 2 Play w/ Item shop ( i know this wont happen but i can dream)

    5. Better Drop System

  • I wish they would shut the game down.

I like tab targeting and dislike PvP so your points 4 & 5 would continue to keep me uninterested in returning. What drove me away was the continual dumbing down of the talent trees and specializations. Remember when every level or so you got a point to spend in a tree? Yeah, that was actually cool. Making one choice out of three options every 15 levels? Not so cool.

    Two things.

    1. Rename this article "How To Make The Greatest MMORPG Suck."
    2. Fire Garrett Fuller, this article proves he has no business presenting his opinion to the public.

    5. Get Rid of Tab Targeting

Take your stinking paws off MMORPG, you damned dirty console gamer!  Consoles don't have tab keys.   As part of their console-fication strategy of PC games, we often see this idea.  Anyone familiar with SWG has seen the result of switching from RPG combat (Tab Targeting) to fps combat (console combat), it was called the CU/NGE.  To learn how that went over Google, "Why Did  Everyone Leave SWG To Go Play WoW?"  I am not here to list every failed MMORPG that turned its back on RPG Combat.  You tried them and you hated them, that's why we call those games failures.  I can only suppose that Garret Fuller didn't play those games either or he wouldn't have made this suggestion.

    4. A Warzone Continent - PvP Horde vs. Alliance

if Garrett Fuller had played WoW, he would know that it has Contested Territory.  Two thirds (2/3) of the land all ready meets this requirement.  But this is not what he has in mind.  Allow me to translate, "Make a Warzone Continent" means "Make Far Cry 3 and MMO."  So for item all that can be said is, been done, all ready exists in game.  Try playing the game before you start writing(or excrementing from the mouth).

    3.  An End to the Gear Grind

He came out and said it.  He finds Raiding and Dungeons to be too hard, what he is asking for is a simpler and easy way to get gear.  Like the gear store found in most console fps games.  We have seen the articles here complaining about the dumbing down of MMORPGs for "Casual Gamers."   But this is a misnomer, the correct statement is the dumbing down of MMORPGs for "Console Gamers."  Get this straight, Garrett Fuller has no problem with the gear, he just want to make it easier to get.

Why is WoW  the most successful MMORPG?  Because the players chase the gear like it was crack.  When loot drops after the struggle of a raid, you get a shot of Endorphins.  Garrett Fuller wants to dumb down the game so all you have to do is open the shop window and press "Give ME."  Vanilla WoW was to hard for you Fuller?  If you hate the dumbing down of MMORPGs, let Garrett Fuller know.  Because he thinks dumb is the way to go.

    2. Veteran Rewards

Blizzard gave us the best MMORPG experience for the last 10 years.  They gave us WoW!  I knew this was going to be the hardest point to dispute.  Because, what is the best food?  Free Food!  All I can say is, this is "Dumb It Down for Console Gamers"  repackaged.

    1. Playable on Next-Gen Consoles

Take your stinking paws off MMORPG, you damned dirty console gamer!  My video card has had an HDMI port for some time now (1.5 - 2 years).  I play my PC games on a 42" screen.  I feel sorry for any one using a less than 30" screen.  You don't need a console to play games on a large screen.  I recommend the GeForce GT610.

    Pardon any spelling errors
Konfess your cyns and some maybe forgiven
Boy: Why can't I talk to Him?
Mom: We don't talk to Priests.
As if it could exist, without being payed for.
F2P means you get what you paid for. Pay nothing, get nothing.
    Even telemarketers wouldn't think that.
It costs money to play.  Therefore P2W.

    5. Unlikely to happen. This would be like redesign the whole combat system itself and since relatively small changes coming with each expansion cause so much qq then just imagine what could trigger that. Besides not sure if this is what majority really wants.

    4. Again unlikely to happen. Smaller zones (Tol-Barad, Winterspring) are there and to be fair those are not so involving. Big continent dedicated to PvP would require to make it either FFA (what's with Horde vs Ally then?) or RvR - two faction RvR so far never worked out. Also then comes next expansion and then what? Abandoned features (since i.e. rewards become obsolete) or requirement to create whole new content for this continent. WoW players rarely stay somewhere just for fun.

    3. It's been there since day one. What they could do tho is to revert mechanics to original ones (epic was really epic, not just purple) but then there was the reason why they abandoned this route with TBC.

    2. Also could cause controversies atleast in that shape. How exactly better is player that played since day one from one who played for i.e. last 5 years. Besides this doesn't require expansion - content patch could be better idea in fact.

    1. Also not going to happen. WoW slowly drifts towards maintenance mainly. Also console game with tab targeting? See what i wrote about that mechanic in WoW.

    My list:

    1. vet rewards but only if well thought 9see what i said about that)

    2. make crafting meaningful. It would require some work but can be done. Also could help with gear grind (wouldn't solve it tho)

    3. Old talent system or system which is a mix of current and old one. As in every level or two you get point and you can distribute it as before MoP. Additionally every 15 levels you get special point that gives you ability to choose 1 out of three extra skills (i.e. some utilities)

    4. Raid Finder for old raids too. Raid finder for DS not just for level 85 (simply wtf)

    5. High level quests in low level zones. Reason for players to go back there not just because of some event going on but to simply play there. Quests that take players through many zones.

That's more or less what WoW has always been.

A lot of people are suggesting unrealistic things that fly in the face of how WoW has always been.

WoW has always been about small scale linear heavily instanced dev driven content with a gear grind.

That's where they've made their money, on the casual audience, they aint changing now.

But wow, has it really been 10 years since the MMORPG genre died?

Bring back challenge to the leveling content.

    Scrap account gear.

Let people that don't like to level start them at the starting level of the latest expansion.

Player housing with player shop vendors.

If no to this then BC servers and or Vanilla servers.

    4 Stories, stories, stories...

5 Player generated content like in Neverwinter.

I like this list but I would also add housing, collectables and more mini games, like the Hearthstone game playable IN the game world by your character with stuff he can collect for it across Azeroth in chests, drops from mobs, etc.

Lol... this is possibly the dumbest article MMORPG.com has ever produced. 5 ways to ruin WoW is more like it.
  • BladestromBladestrom Member UncommonPosts: 5,001

    1. Make next expansion 30-60 levels, not 5 (Blizzard can easily afford this)

    2. add 10 zones not 5 & plenty flight points but no flying.

    3. Slow down leveling from 1- X, respect their own historical content.

    4. A much much darker tone to the expansion, what about a full on Old God led invasion.

5 Scale down players in lower level dungeons so all old content is challenging.

    rpg/mmorg history: Dun Darach>Bloodwych>Bards Tale 1-3>Eye of the beholder > Might and Magic 2,3,5 > FFVII> Baldur's Gate 1, 2 > Planescape Torment >Morrowind > WOW > oblivion > LOTR > Guild Wars (1900hrs elementalist) Vanguard. > GW2(1000 elementalist), Wildstar

Now playing GW2, AOW 3, ESO, LOTR, Elite D

    Exactly.

  • LonzoLonzo Member UncommonPosts: 294

Gerrit Fuller, that is exactly everything the players DONT want.

WoW is so successful because of the little bit Oldschoolism that is still in the game. All the new features from the so called "mmos" from today are killing the mom-genre.
