This was a bad post, honestly. You'd be setting WoW on a path to failure, those are all things that LESSER games do.
Not everyone wants "action combat". Targeted combat makes much more sense, especially in a rules-based environment. Besides, you simply do not "redesign gameplay" like this.
There is no gear grind. If you simply p;lay the game, everything you need to play it comes to you in a natural course of progression. Spoken like someone who has... maybe never played WoW?
There's no need for explicit veteran rewards... It only alienates non-veterans. I never understood why games did this.
I agree on 1, and disagree on 3, but 2 warrants more discussion.
There are two concepts: gear grind, and gear treadmill..
Gear grind is doing repeated tasks over and over to get gear, and gear treadmill is a constant cycle of replacing that gear each patch.
And both are the biggest problems with WoW, and most other games.
The gear is replaced far too fast for it to have any meaning behind it. Who cares if you got that awesome drop from ToT, you know you will get a drop in SoO that gives +2 str and +4 sta. this is incredibly dull.
Gear updates need to be less frequent, and there needs to be non gear based progression.
As far as the gear grind, WoW does it better than most with lots of ways to obtain gear, or the tokens for it. i would love to see valor removed completely but that leads to RNG frustration for some so Valor is probably here to stay. What they need to focus on is this: If you ran a raid and didnt get any gear, what did you get out of it? there needs to be a better answer to this than valor. this is where an alternate progression system can come in handy big time.

WoW has no gear grind? You're not being serious are you?
I'm sorry, am I reading this right? Are you actually expecting a 10 year old game to get rid of tab targeting for more of a real-time combat system? And go console? I say keep dreaming, good sir. And as for an end to gear grinds, yeah... because that worked out real well for GW2. I don't play WoW, but let's face it, mmo's have to have gear grinds to keep people interested because it's all about working towards a goal and being rewarded for it. Gear progression is an important part of any endgame mmo. If you remove that, then what's the point? You don't have to do anything at endgame, just sit around and compare cosmetics? The grind can and should be more fun and interesting, though. One way NOT to do it, is how FFXIV is currently setup, where you are pretty much grinding just one or two dungeons at endgame for your barter currency. I'm looking forward to when the rest of the dungeons will be scaled up and grinding won't be as monotonous. As for a focus on PVP and story, most people I've played with hate PVP in mmo's, that is what RTS and MOBAs are for tbh, and story, while I'm sure is pretty good, is never a focus in any MMO, that's what single player games are for.

Amazing, I find all 5 suggestions to be completely ridiculous.
MMORPGs don't belong on consoles. Consoles ruin PC games/gaming.
Tab target is a staple of the genre. Action style is another style, not a better style. Why would they change their core game all of a sudden? Makes zero sense.
Gear grind is also a staple of MMORPGs. Without it, there is no reason to play...except...
You want more lame PvP? Meh. MMORPG PvP is a joke all around. If you want real competition you should be playing other gaming genres that actually has it. MMORPGs are PvE at the core and no class-based, gear-based, and highly variable game like an MMORPG will ever have any semblance of balance for PvP - and as such, will never be truly competitive.
One thing bliz always does in every expac is to mangle their talent system. If they were to undo the lameness and ultra dumbing down introduced in Panda Express and return to something that actually involved a marginal degree of thinking and choice, I might consider playing WoW again. Probably not. But it'd be a maybe instead of a definite no way.
Completely agree with you on all points. Someone writting this has either no clue about the MMO genre or this article was meant to be a joke. As to the other points I barely took them seriously but for the 3'rd one, no way. For someone to openly state that a good idea for any MMO is to take away the mare cornerstone of it, meaning the gear "grind", is really ill-conveived. This game as most if not all other MMOS are ALL about getting better and newer gear, if you take that out you get what? I don't even know if there is such a genre of games. Even in single player ones like Witcher you got gear upgrades and the game is mostly story based.
Bring back? WoW never had it. It's always been the easiest MMO on the market.
You really have no clue do you. Wow was hardcore at launch compared to what we got today. Let me guess you started playing after BC expansion.
if you played EQ1 or FF11 you would understand the term "challenging to level"
even in vanilla wow it was approx 1 bazillion times easier to level to max than in EQ or in FF11. Not saying WoW in vanilla wasnt awesome... it was. But it was always a joke to level. WoW was about the extremely massive community, the theorycrafting, and the hard bossfights in the earlier dungeons.
Where did I say it was as challenging as EQ? At launch Wow was challenging compared to what we have today. They had outdoor content that would kick your butt if you didn't have help or out leveled it. You could die from adds if you were not careful. Today you round up as many you can to aoe them down wash and repeat.
i hear ya. i missed that you were comparing it to itself, not to other games. point taken!
RIP Ribbitribbitt you are missed, kid.

Too late for most of the items on the list in the game's life cycle. I disagree with the notion that removing the gear grind would bring people back; gear and new content continues to drive the game. Look at population spikes during major content patches and expansions, then as people gear population dwindles. Offering sidegrades won't satisfy the existing playerbase. Adding console support this late in the game is a no go as well; if Blizz could have realistically added it they would have by now. Wow has too many buttons and reactives to map to translate to controller-based gaming.
What I would like to see would be something like:
Playable Naga race - after plaing in Vashj'ir as a Naga I couldn't wait to hear details of the next expansion. We got Pandas as a playable race instead (okay) but I still feel like playable Naga is the one thing that would really ignite my excitement.
New 'Heroic' class - this time a caster class please. Death Knights were immensly polarizing for the playerbase when released but I really would like to play a heroic caster (especially a battleground healer.)
More content like Timeless Isle - I feel it has been a tremendous success. Active playerbase on populated servers make it even better. I love the focus on exploration and teamwork. Every zone in the expansion should contain similar content imo.
Mentoring system - I feel one thing Wow really lacks right now is a proper mentoring system or the ability to delevel and gain some reward for playing with levelling friends. In a similar vein, they should do away with XP penalties for grouping.
I as well as every other player have a host of ideas they would like to see added. I think expectations should be kept realistic given the age of the game and finite resources left to develop it. Remember they are shifting focus to next-gen MMOs and expansions for their other IPs.
Honestly, all Blizz would have to do to get my to play again is add some sort of content syncing like Final Fantasy and GW2 did. Then you could go back to all the old raids and dungeons and do them all again and be challenged. Creating new characters wouldn;t just be a grind to max level because you could actually enjoy old content and not necessarily do it in a linear order either!

And yes, what I would like to see most is MULTIPLE specs, not only dual. Ok, for rogue no problem, but shaman, pala, not to mention druid ... would need at least 3 or even more. At times I would like to just switch for fun to some other build without going constantly back to trainer and changing toolbars with spells.

Gotta say I agree with most of this. I quit before the Timeless Isle, but I've heard nothing but good things about it. They should add xp bonuses for grouping as well, as this would at least bring some of the social aspect back to the leveling process. The mentoring system is a good idea as well, although it may be a bit late for that.
I could take or leave the heroic class thing. I played a DK at WotLK launch, because I like new classes. I also leveled a monk at launch of Pandaria. The 1-90 process was pretty interesting, as many were leveling new characters (especially monks), so the lower level areas were populated for a time, and I made some new friends during the process.
Blizzard would need to really come up with some interesting ideas to get people back at this point though. You're looking at a nearly 10 year old game, and there are other games out there that are more appealing now. They don't have to completely break the mold, but they do need to get with the times.
Not to be rude but this was the most ill-concived thing i have read in a long time. So what Fuller is asking for is a complete redesign of World of Warcraft... I seem to remember another game that did this... It did not turn out very well.
Agree - MMO's are built on a large player base. Pushing minority wants is doing nothing for the genre.
5: When will people understand that aiming doesn't work in MMO's especially when you have people with high latency. Sure, you can fake it out (large hit boxes, slow creatures, etc) but what's the point of faking it out so some people "think" they are aiming like a 20ms FPS shooter?
4: MMO PvP is just about the worst measure of PvP skill. If people want a real test of their player skill go duel on a 20ms FPS shooter 1v1. MMO PvP is for the AVERAGE player to get a kill some where in the scheme of things (gear, ganking, afk killing, etc). MMO PvP just isn't that high of a priority in terms of a games revenue. Just look how each title treats it.
3: Gear grind is fine it just shouldn't be reset. It should be continuous for your life in the game so you don't get that feeling you completed objectives for nothing.
2: Veteran rewards is like the seniority system - a bad idea.
1: Console's moving from Sonic the Hedge Hog into PC games is a terrible idea. Its causing PC games to be dumb downed to nothing.
It really continues to surprise me how much an ex employee of Blizzard could be so out of Touch with it's own Vet Player base. I think you pretty much missed one Very Very important point why most people left the game who originally had played and worked their butts off in the Vanilla and Burning Crusade. People left the game because it became dumbed down and simplistic. Too easy and Rediculasly boring because there was no challange in the game anymore. The dungeons are a joke, and the raiding became a joke to the vet players who were really good players. They didn't leave because of the gear grind. When Wrath of the Lich King came out most of the Hard Core gamers left the game. My enitre guild disbanded and 40% of the people left the game after that expansion in my server, Most of the people were all players who never even played the burning crusade or vanilla. They were all new players I remember playing with when I was raiding in Wrath of the Lich King. After that I left the game and never returned. It was a waste of my time to be playing a MMO were everyone had the same Epics I had because they were so easy to get and required next to no effort to aquire. Thats WHY they left.
Ok I am going to try to keep this constructive, It will be hard though since the topic suggests game ideas for a 10th anniversary...
5. Get Rid of Tab Targeting
/Cry You must be joking let's keep it realistic here and I think there are still lots of people who like the TAB targeting / combat system as it is
4. A Warzone Continent - PvP Horde vs. Alliance
This is actually an idea that I could support
3. An End to the Gear Grind
/Cry.. again You must be joking One off the main reasons WoW is such a hit is because the endless grind for better gear that is what keeps us going!!
2. Veteran Rewards
In someway they already do this each year we all get a nice Anniversary gift. But why do you come up with a ridiculous example about a tour in their HQ... That has nothing to do with an expansion pack...
1. Playable on Next-Gen Consoles
People might wanna play Wow on console for me...I'll stick with keyboard and mouse, however this is one more example about something that is totally not related to an expansion pack.
1. Revamp and USE all areas of the map. Old and new. Whats the point having a huge and pretty world, if you use it only to take 1-2 lvl's. Make the areas have a meaning even at max lvl.
2. Revamp vanila character models.
3. Veteran rewards
4. Make professions better and deeper.
5. Add open world events. Not like gw2 zerg crap though.
6. Make CC necessary again.
7. Real HC mode dungeons again, like TBC
8. Maintain both tab targeting and holy trinity.
9. Give a 3rd spec slot. 2 are not enough anymore, especially in classes like druid.
10. Roll back talent system, or make a better than the current one.
11. Lower subscription at least to 10$.
Yep. Tie veteran rewards to sub price. I've given Blizzard thousands over the past 9 years I'm sure, please, I'd play forever for 4.99 a month.
The only way I will come back to WoW is if they provide a melee-oriented talent tree (and bring back melee in general) for Hunters. I know this isn't the most popular opinion, but without this, the game sucks for me.
Any number of other things people have said above are nice too.
I mean these are the things that don't make better games just make games a bit different and they flop anyway becuase they aren't better.
Want a better wow make it like the better wow's: vanilla tbc, etc. seems a logical place to start.

I want Blizzard to get their heads out of their you-know-whats and actually OBSERVE the MMO community! If they think this pathetic model is going to keep people coming back for more, they're going to burn out...and soon! When's EQNext coming out? Oh, that's right. NOVEMBER 2013! Be afraid Blizzard...Be very afraid....
I think the game was great personally during Vanilla and TBC. It is ashame MMOs change so much the original game is lost from existence. Vanilla does not exist any longer, it is a different game. 1. Vanilla Server
2. TBC Server
3. WOTLK Server
4. Cataclysm Server
5. Pandaria Server
Lastly, stop double dipping. Either sub for ALL content of the game or F2P and microtransactions. That was another reason I let go of WoW and didn't look back.
