I'm sort of burnt out at the moment. This isn't something new. I play hardcore (lots of hours) for a while, and suddenly it sort of drops off.
I don't follow the hype train anymore. I think the last "new" game I played was Scarlet Blade, and that lasted all of 10 minutes.
Honestly I'm thinking about rebuilding the 460 in my RV. Maybe a performance cam.

I was in a lull for a while, but I just recently decided to try out eq2 again (it's free anyway) and I'm enjoying it so far. Have you tried that one recently?
Lack of end game, lack of pvp integration, and really more of the same in themepark MMOs has made me not keen on trying any existing MMOs currently.
I wouldn't mind trying a sand box/horizontal progression MMO, but I have little time to spare at the moment which is the nice thing about a themepark which shares the same learning curve as other themeparks and so I dont have to learn about the game... and also any MMO takes up time, and in a sand box that can mean spending an hour doing something which may or may not be action packed.
So in a way, even a sand box, a pure player only world would be a bit too much, and something in between would be nice with advanced NPC's, open world pvp/pve/npc systems, NPC alignment, player created content/economy, bounty hunting, mini games/gambling, housing, guild mechanics, Breathing cities, dynamic environments, day/night cycle, with animated action combat. Also content that is not added as filler, but content that adds story or at least a challenge. I also like to explore, so it does not have to be off the beaten path, which in a game that has horinzontal progression this can be acheived with much ease. Also a system that has quests whcih are epic quests with suitable rewards for that quest... a quest to get an epic sword, and really something as simple as that, but making the reward feel as something special rather than something everyone has... maybe a name generator on rewards to make them unique as well.
Write bad things that are done to you in sand, but write the good things that happen to you on a piece of marble
i havnt logged on in any mmo in about 2 months. quit Lotro when it went ftp, quit wow after ToT and i really tried to like ffxiv but its just WoW with final fantasy skin.
same here, i haven't found one to stick with in quite a while. i mostly play Skyrim (modded out to hell) and Far Cry 3 (i reset the camps and play guerrilla war with the AI). but that's about it really. its kinda sad.
i was an mmo junkie, but there's just not much going on anymore of any interest to me. even the betas i have recently seen are depressing.

I usually open steam and just look at stuff for 30 minutes. I sit down with the intention of lotro or eve but when it comes down to it, i just don't have the desire to play. I started playing mmos with DAoC. I'm not a jaded old timer but something is just missing.
Sometimes I'll download a game and by the time it'd ready to play I've lost interest. I'm looking forward to Shroud of the Avatar and Archeage but otherwise hoping to get my fix through some pen and paper games.
Half heartedly playing FF14 atm because some friends are playing it. But its just a retread of all the other MMOs created in the last 5 years.
Looking for a MMO without levels, maybe one that ranks you up based on achievements, accomplishments or certifications. I dunno, something off the leveling treadmill.
I felt like a hermit who'd stepped away from the MMORPG society to hybernate in my cave until the next great game.
Imagine my surprise when I hear a voice asking if there were any other gameless players living on the mountain. As I was about to reply I'm amazed to hear so many other voices respond to his call.
I don't have much more to add other than I'm pleased to find myself in company with people whose stories are so close to my own.
I'm in and out of things right now. But mostly in a lull as well. I keep digging though lists of games, checking out sites about foreign games. Some sound cool, but i keep wondering if my perception of this genre, and the industries perception are just very different. I really enjoy MMO's because of the multi and online thing. There's someone else there to share in your accomplishment, and show off to. Single player games were great, but when you conquered them, then unlocked all the secret stuff, then beat the hidden ultra boss. You just put it down, or sold it at gamestop and went on.
The first time I hit max level in an MMO, and suddenly there was a whole new world opened up was awesome! Now it seems everything I play is a mindless slog to max level, where you can engage in the next mindless slog. MMO has just become endless grind. I still get to show off when I'm done, but the journey itself just isn't fun anymore.
Yeah, I am hopping around trying to see if mmorpgs have gotten better like Dcuo and Ps2, but unforunately they are still very subpar. I have been playing OSRS runescape for about 4 months now after quit OSRS back in april(From launch). I've played so many mmorpgs but they all are dumbed down, repetitive, boring and have no retention.
I did enjoy some, fleeting as it were such as:
AOC(For about 4 months, most due to huge guild),
DFO(My favorite after runescape, played for 3 years, but grind, no sandbox features and DFUW ruined it),
All points bulletin(Was great, espcially with guild, but repetitive gameplay,op weapons and lack of things to do ultimately killed it for me).
Dcuo was fun with the guild but the game was/still is lacking and glitches allowed people to exploit.
Ps2 was great with guild but the game has no substance. Wish it was like PS1.
So now here I am waiting for the sandbox games that look promising, but as we know Indie games tend to suck in certain regards. Waiting for Eq Next; trying not to give into the hype until I see gameplay. So I just play multiplayer games with the guild like BF4 and path to exile for now.
After awhile, the relative same-ness of all these games makes them feel very pointless. You're just grinding so you can open up more grinding.
I'm honestly thinking about returning to EQ.
That's essentially the problem, "Playing them all". You don't really see people doing this in any other genre (for so long), add that many of those are considerably smaller.
I don't really see so much "I only play {insert} type of game" in any other genre either.
It's like buying every single RPG, FPS or RTS that releases, from the good stuff to the incredibly bad stuff.
A: you're going to feel like you're playing the same game over and over
B all of it will be mushed together in your brain in some weird hodgepodge of intertwined memories
C: you start getting drowsy playing any game of that genre.

i was playing FFXIV than one day i thought "why am i playing it ? its not THAT fun and it'll be just like those others countless mmos i've played already" so i quit.
I have a lotro lifetime account, i've bought every single expansion yet i can't get myself to play it.
I have a GW2 account, the game is great but i can't stick to it as well.
I've tried EVE more than 3 times, but i find it boring after couple of days.
The only MMO i go back to and get some joy is Tibia. My first.
The last time i had such enjoyment with a mmo was playing Mortal Online.
Analyzing it i came to conclude that i'm more of a Virtual World player, Sandbox as people normally call it. Unfortunately thats a type of mmo left behind. I'm not sure EQ Next will be focused as a virtual world, but i'm hoping it is.
Nonetheless, i got intersted in Rust, not a mmo, but it has some crafting, building and PVP with survival mechanics.... its worth a look.
Mmos are so dumbed down nowadays that I cant get into them.
TERA was a nice change of pace for a while, especially with all of the automated pvp event stuff but it got old. I really wish they would have made the crafting / loot / shop and free economy similar to Lineage 2's old system like it was originally going to be. Without the dungeon instances lol. That would have added so many more levels of depth. I honestly believe it would have exploded if they would have made a carefully thought-out hybrid out of those two games.
Speaking of, I heard NCsoft if currently developing two mmos atm. Im really hoping they put out something challenging, unforgiving and competitive like L2 of the old-days (when they just happened to make the most money). Im thinking its my last hope for mmos.
No but seriously, I've found that today's modern MMOs can be enjoyable when your set your brain to 'off'. It's only when you get to deep thinking that you become frustrated and bored with this and that.
Playing in a stupor is awesome, you find the stupidest things to be quite enjoyable. One time I killed ambient creatures in GW2 for almost 3 hours.
I know, I know, it sounds stupid but that's only because you're thinking. Go home tonight and load your favorite MMO. Once its started try to play without thinking. I promise you'll look at the clock, it will be 5 hours later and you'll be smiling.

I think hes referring to cognitive thought, specifically, conscious intellectual activity. He is right btw.

I'd disagree, as most gaming is less about thought and more about action and reaction, the thinker often loses, because thinking takes time. Intellect comes into play in strategy, strategy is learning the mind of the opponent. Which leads to an inherent ability of being able to react to them without thought but instead controlled deliberate action. It's about forethought not in the moment thought. Hence why such harsh training is integral to a powerful military, and study is required of those who lead.
Let me know of an MMO that really requires this "thinking thing" though (i'd love to try one)... outside of EVE ,heat of the moment thinking is more in line with adventure gaming (puzzles)..

I haven't had an MMO home for about a year myself now. I've played many mmo's since then, but none of them have stuck where you're excited to log in every time and know you're gonna be around for a long time to come. I've tried Project 1999, a classic everquest server. The community there was great, but with nothing to do but grind your face off it got old after a while. I picked up FFXIV at release and just about made it to max level. It was around then that I came to the realization that end game consisted of grinding one dungeon and a few hard mode primals over and over again. That didn't sound fun to me, so I just cut my losses and stopped playing. I looked into a classic DAoC freeshard called Uthgard. It has a pretty healthy population, but I just don't think I'd have to steam to level to 50 and farm enough gold for a full set of gear, as DAoC's PvE is and always was less than great. I've been playing SMITE and Xbox games, but that feeling of accomplishment and progression just isn't there with those games.
I'm looking forward to Wildstar right now. I like the graphics and the scifi theme and it looks like it'll be a good mix of PvE and PvP, which is what I like. The WoW expansion looks pretty solid too, it seems like they're taking a step back from MoP, which was a disaster imo. Since Wildstar is still a good 4-6 months away I'm just trudging along checking my email every day for a beta invite. It's good to know I'm not alone
It just came out yesterday. Its browser based so only takes 2 minutes to download and play. I normally dont play games like this but this one is pretty complex and very addicting so far. Its F2P as well, i liked it enough i subbed and spent a few bucks in the cash shop.
Another few suggestions but these arent MMOs -
State of Decay, with newly released sandbox dlc (this one is really, really good)
Project Zomboid (this one could possibly shock you!)
I played Darkfall Online and was hooked for about 2 years until they came with the idea of a new game and destroyed the first one. Needless to say I just left the game for good and did not try the sequel since the magic was gone, it was not the same for me anymore. That was my first MMO love.
Many good games perhaps will be destroyed in the future for the "noble" idea of improving them.
I'm in and out of things right now. But mostly in a lull as well. I keep digging though lists of games, checking out sites about foreign games. Nothing to really show off anymore. You generally look just like everyone else at max level. Pretty awesome if you like to see exact copies of yourself running around. Can't even call it a grind. There is no grind, if there was a grind, no one would play. Instead of a carrot on a stick, players get a carrot every 10 feet.

I also am without a game.
FFXIV isn't what I thought it was going to be... nor do I see it being there in the upcoming patches.
I log into TERA every day just to do 1-2 things to make my gf happy. But my heart isn't in it.
