^^^ apparently, some people don't quite get it. And that's fine, unlike other MMO's, Pantheon isn't trying to target everyone.
Those who have experience EQ1 and VG, know what Brad is capable of, and what the possibilities are with him at the helm of another MMO.
Anyone who has played on an EQ1 progression server knows there is still a huge demand for the way MMOs used to be.
I have no interest in the game and lol at any kickstarter but I agree. I think there is a small ( imo :P ) market of people who want this and if it can get funding it will probably be the game they've been waiting on.
I don't like brad and trust his word about as far as I can throw him...but I hope he gets his game off the ground and proves me wrong.
Perhaps the private server jazz means that people can use some sort of official-released architecture & possibly mod their own version of the servers. Which would mean the person/company running the private server would have to pay server upkeep costs and manage that end personally.
I'm not gonna KS a game that I wont play if it doesnt have crafting. If it gets to the 2.3 mil range I may reconsider, but 2017 is a long way off
Well a lot of people might be saying the same thing:-(. People waiting to see it trend and jump on it at the end.. You know it doesn't take your money until it hits it's goal right?
either way I hope they reach it too.. I know the stretch goals are being revamped so it might come down in $$..
also alpha will be early so maybe 2 years before we can test:-)
I love Vanguard, and will go back when the new multi game sub goes into effect, but I have no confidence in this. The obvious scripted dialog from the team was really bad and heeding stretch goals for basic features has turned me off.

:-(. That's the team who made VG.. The are Devs not salesman ha..

Then they should have let them speak in their own words and not have them sound like sleazy car salesman.

All they did was read a card.. How did they sound like a sleazy car salesman?? You're being overly critical but hey it's your $$. Plenty of other games coming out offering what they are right?
I can see what he's saying. He feels they didn't come off as genuine.
The thing is, these are programmers etc. Typically introverted people so the video was probably already out of their comfort zone. So I don't hold it against them at all.
For most people EverQuest was a huge success.
And if you're going to take a game like Vanguard and label that a failure, then I'm fine with taking the risk on another failure, because I loved game. To this day I've never been able to find another game with such awesome classes.
I was so attached to my Vulmane Dreadknight that it just ruined other games for me.
Had Brad actually shown up to personally apologize to the Sigil employees that they were all losing their jobs, I would support this project. Instead he left the office and had a lackey fire everyone in the parking lot. That's a no vote for me.
An MMO developed by gamers who aren't afraid to target an audience of like-minded gamers.
A fantasy themed Massively Multiplayer Role Playing game (MMO) with a heavy focus on character development, an immersive world, and teamwork.
An MMO for players wanting a challenging and rewarding experience.
An open world in which you explore to obtain not only more powerful items but also new spells and abilities.
Travel where and when you want to in a non-linear world.
A huge world to explore, trade, and adventure in.
A complex back-story that players may gradually discover as they grow in power and explore the world.
A constantly expanding and evolving world.
Group-focused social gameplay using a class based system to encourage teamwork.
Customize your class by bonding with the spirits of fallen warriors.
Reactive combat where you can determine what the NPC is doing and react to it. (move, counter, deflect, etc.) .
Combat will be challenging and involved -- your decisions will matter and directly affect the battle's outcome.
Travel the world and profit from selling exotic items collected from distant realms. Different cities and outposts may have local Bazaars.
Limited and class based teleportation may get you close, but in order to reach many destinations you will have to traverse the planar scarred lands of Terminus through the use of your own two feet or on the back of your mighty steed.
Earning experience is only part of what it takes to level up. Exploring the world you will gain knowledge and power allowing you to overcome more powerful enemies.
The game will run on PC, Mac, and possibly other platforms in the future.
I'll believe it when I see it.
And sadly, let me guess, guild vs guild with no sense of lore. So my Elf kills your Elf, and so forth.
A quote:
"All I can say right now is PvP is a stretch goal. If we raise enough $$ we want to implement it correctly. We don't want to just hack in a quickie PvP system. That's really how we're approaching a lot of major features -- we're making sure we have the time and resources to do this stuff right."
That tells me very little, but again, will we even have factions or are we so free in game that the lore is just nonsense?
So tired of the so called "we are making everything so open and freeeeeeee...." which translates into minimal coding. I'd like to see this game take off from where Vanguard Saga of Heroes died along with my 2 faction server. But as the man above stated, I'll believe at least what they put above when I see it.
Secondly, this is Brad McQuaid, after all. And many of us have NOT forgotten what happened with Sigil, the fact that he vanished and a bunch of his programmers were fired in the parking lot...and the drama that ensued. I believe, however, that everyone deserves a second shot. I hope he does indeed show the gaming world that the old school model of mmoRPG can truly still function.
Shame he never played Dark Age of Camelot, though. I couldn't imagine what he could do with that level of creativity.

Personally, I'd rather give the guy a second chance, rather than keep having no MMO's to play since I can't stomach the endless stream of WoW clones that have been released for the last (almost) decade.

And again, there is this as well. I do agree. Just please, Mr. McQuaid, while I know a 3 faction mmorpg is far beyond the conceptual capability of most developers (the wild card of a third faction is such an awesome thing to have when one faction can potentially just overpower the other for ages...), can you at least consider a 2 faction ala the Vanguard Saga of Heroes Varking server?

Thanks.
Was under impression faction would be like EQ.. Hopefully Devs start posting soon to clear things up.
Lets see generic this game is garbage and will fail posts among other generic bitter gamer posts. Surprisingly a few critical posts that have a point, like crafting being a streach goal, which really ought to be in regardless.
Still would like to see McQuaid succeed in making an mmo again. EQ was great while Vanguard.....well for me my PC was too much of a POS to play it lol, forget why it did do so well though. Ideally with the number of people WoW brought into the mmo genre there will be people looking for a hard MMO, while others disperese to other MMOs of their liking. I doubt this would get nearly as big as WoW, nor does it need too. Heck 300k-500k would be where EQ peaked right? Even more would be great even if forums would be flooded with the word flop and fail if its anything short of 13 million.
Guess its wait and see. Personally I'm skeptical of the success of kickstarters in general, but I might pitch in something, just to see if something comes of the game.
Originally posted by Sephros wait so is this an mmo or a private hive game multiplayer game? 5.9mil stretch goal is to run your own server....
It's an MMO.. No details on the private server yet but it will be a MMO
<blockquote ugc="" basehtml"=""> The current plan for UGC servers works like this. Any player will be able to run their own server that we’ll host. They’ll pay a monthly fee to have the server up that will contain a subset of our servers content. The maximum number of players allowed on the server will be the only variable in determining the monthly price.
They’ll be able to use the tools we use to create new content for their server, and they’ll be able to create new levels and art assets to import into their server.
Server admins will also be able to sell assets like zones, monsters, etc to other server admins to put on their own servers.
If other players decide to spend the majority of their play time on another players custom server, the admin of that server will receive a percentage of the revenue generated from that player.
But the key thing is, you’ll be able to design the quest, boss, or zones you want, and share them with your friends and the rest of the world. And if you do a good job at it you could make money in the process.
I've backed it because this is the type of MMO I wan't to see again. Loved EQ but everything since then has been the same generic stuff over and over , with no real risk.
I'll admit that I was a little hesitant at first due to how Vanguard was handled, but here's to hoping it doesn't go the same way this time.
My favorite part of this thread was Solar_Prophet slamming Pantheon's vision and even calling it's name generic, while his sig mentions the term "old school" twice in the same sentence and is a link to a damn Kickstarter campaign with the name Legend of Grimrock. That's like the pot calling the kettle incapable of avoiding ironic forum posting!
Hey guys, I hear Legend of Grimrock is going to just be more generic fantasy crap. I mean, even the name is generic!
BUT if you're tired of listless, boring fantasy MMOs (obviously not including EQ). Wait no more! Support an old-school game based on everyone's favorite (or should be favorite) old school dungeon crawling MMO! Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen!

all set to KS, til I saw 2.5 mil for crafting???
crafting should have been the feature numero uno
