Point is there is a ton of info on its way out.. Don't rule this game out.. I'm sure someone from the team will clear a few things up for you..
Like your instance comment.. That will be used to advance a storyline when needed. It won't be a big part of the game.
the combat will not be twitch. Probably an advancement to VG combat.. DT/OT targeting in.
Do you have access to more info then me? Honestly didn't pay too much attention to backer rewards, such as alpha forums and what not. Or are you making assumptions like the rest of us?
The way he described dungeons and instancing sounded a lot like the majority of mmos these days, the part on helping the linear story line especially. You can choose to avoid them, but are usually doing yourself a disservice and end up having to do them to get a certain item or ability or whatever. Linear story lines are usually important.
They seem to be unavoidable in today's games, so not passing judgement, just noticed that there is no mention of instancing on their site, which seems to be a big turn off for many fans of old school gaming. The reveal video and site wording makes it sound like vanilla EQ/VG and they make it very clear they are going after a niche crowd, but I'm not so sure that crowd wants some of those extra WoW and beyond elements sprinkled in.
I'm sure as time progresses, a lot more info will come out, but like Camelot Unchained, these games are years off so I'm in no rush to throw my money at them. EQ/DAoC are two of my all time favorite games so I have some faith in them making quality games, but I'm looking for the next generation. So I'm obviously not their target customer, but could be.
Hey gang! I'm Ceythos, one of the senior designers on Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen. Good to see you all!
On behalf of Visionary Realms, Inc I'd like to thank you all for your interest in our project (even the skeptics in the crowd - you're posting here, so you must be somewhat curious, right?). A lot of the questions and concerns that have been brought up here have been answered at our updates section for our kickstarter (http://kickstarter.com/projects/1588672538/pantheon-rise-of-the-fallen/posts). Be sure to check back, as we're updating it regularly!
Thanks for your support as we work to create the world of Terminus
Are the stretch goals what you intend to have for launch? I assume most of those stretch goals you'll get in the game even if you don't meet the kickstarter fundraising. You just may not get them in at launch if the kickstarter goal isn't met, right?
Mandatory group play unless it has a GW mechanic is a recipe for failure. Then it will just end up being one guy and a group of NPCs following him around.
I know everyone is excited because of the names attached to it. But forcing people to group is just a bad idea.

Yes. If the higher goals aren't reached we may reach out to publishers and investors for more money. I would love to have all of those features at launch, but the budget will dictate this. Like you said, if they're all not there at launch, we will get to them post-launch via patches and game updates.

Please ... another game by Brad "Fail" McQuaid. Don't get suckered by this charlatan, again ... he'll sell this one off like he did the other ones and leave his crew to the hounds. Need I bring up Vanguard ....
Brad lost his team and then the game was rushed out before it was 100%..
Don't be so quick to put everything on one person.. he seemed to do ok with EQ1 (and VG) before the big company came in, and that is what hes trying to recreate here.
First rule of leadership ... its always your fault. He was CEO of Sigil. It failed on his watch. They spun tales of a glorious game, only to sell out to SOE in the end. Give him your money if you want, but it will be a cold day in hell before he fools me again. I'm just making sure the masses understand, this guy has no follow through.
*edit:
Yes he and Verant made an amazing game, in EQ. The game that changed MMO's forever, but lets not forget, they bailed on that game too. Where is Verant today? Do a search, and refresh your memory.

I agree Brad dose not have a very good reputation that said he is the only person I know that makes games like Vanguard and I would love for you to bring up Vanguard, I still think it is the best MMO out there to date even with all the bugs.
In the hopes that we will get even more developers out there realizing that there is a demand for games like this I went ahead and pledged $250.

I would agree more if all the new games coming out do not even have a reason too group. It seems every new game I play has more and more single player content. Even the content that is designed for groups you can do solo or with one other.
I agree with you. We do need more devs with vision and out of the box thinking, follow through. This guy, isn't it. What we don't need are devs that take liberties with our faith and money and than turn around, flipping us the bird. Do your research before supporting this project.

EQ and VG created under Brad are better than all the other MMO's of late. I'd rather give my money to proven gameplay creators whose game vision may be hindered by poor business decisions, than a strong business who can sell but doesnt know what makes an MMO fun.
I'm not running out to invest in "Brad Stock" expecting to retire off my earnings.. I'm just sacrificing "pocket change"(a nice dinner really) for the chance of a quality MMO that may entertain for months/years.
I rather give him my money than those companies trying to appeal to masses for the huge bottom line... even if he's doing it to eventually cash out and get his bottom line, the game will still be left behind.
In the end, It's about if the game is fun and priced appropriate.. I don't care about the other stuff.

But you are investing in "Brad Stock". His name is associated with this product. He's heading this project. He has great vision, but no follow through. If you hire an accountant and that person fumbles your accounts, will you trust him/or her again to get the job done? VG is no where near what they discussed leading up to the games design and implementation. Its an unfinished game, with loads of potential. He's burned his bridges more than once, friend.
It's your money, and I understand your point. I just wish people would raise there standards a bit higher, instead of settling for hustlers. In end, that means, a good product that's both appropriately priced and fun.

Sure, if bringing up a mmo that is in my top 5 of all time, if that helps you make your case, bring it up.
Hahaha $4 million stretch goal to do PVP. Those stretch goals are bloody joke. Every few hundred thousand $$$ they will add a new race or class. Jesus just for them to add armour sets and weapons they want $2 million, loooooool. Braid "the junky " Mcquaid, lay of the crack.

Hey don't get me wrong, I like VG ... but its not the game they said it would be. Sigil went under, they jumped shipped, and gave SOE the left overs. A good game? Yes. Top 5 MMO of all time? Maybe ... but not imho. It was hyped as a spiritual successor to EQ.

Yup, he's looking for another hand out. What did he say in the video "... quality not quantity?" Lol.
Looks nice.. tho there is one little big bugbear that keeps nagging me. Not exactly unique to this particular game but most of kickstarter projects in general - stretch goals.
Sure, some of them will probably be reached and exist purely for markeitng purposes but really ? 2.5 m for crafting? 3.8m for PvP ? Why aren't those two in the core of the game but rather considered bonus ? Does it mean they will be tacked on without much polish?
While the whole concept may sound interesting at first without those 2 features I'm not going to bother so even if I wanted to invest into it, I won't until at least 3.8 m is reached.
Watch the videos and listen to the core values guys.... This game is mainly targeted towards EQ era players. Was pvp a big deal in EQ? NOPE. Was crafting a big deal in EQ? Nope, it was kind of an afterthought. This game is targeted toward a specific market segment. So the argument of...."this is a standard mmo feature!" Doesn't mean anything to a back to basics mmo development team who thinks the standard mmo sucks ass. Take the toxic mmo hopping attitude out of here and go play garbage 10 million dollar mmo's that everyone will quit in a week.
we dont need more themepark MMORPGs even if it is a group focused one with err different tab target combat ;/
That should be good news then, since Eq is not a themepark, Vg very little, and Pantheon certainly doesn't look like its going to be.
And to those who label this game oldschool before they know how it is going to look and play... Just because its philosophy has been tried before doesn't mean the game itself wont be new. Pen&paper is still played, new rulesets and settings are beeing made, and still based on the same principles.
I can understand the feelings about the whole Vg/Sigil thing, and having a hard time trusting in this kickstarter. But name me one project that is aiming to make a mmorpg based on these principles.. Or even close to.. Atleast Pantheon kickstarter is an attempt.

Wow first post after Brad.. lucky me. Thanks for starting this project.
I think there are a lot of people who don't understand this game because they didn't play EQ1 before SoE took over..
I guarantee.. if this game is made and plays how the developers intend, 95% of the naysayer who give it a try will enjoy it.
