OP, ignore these trolls. I swear, people these days, the first thing these bored POS's do when they open a thread is find a wording they can attack... It's almost like you need to talk like a politician just to make a thread anymore. Carefully planning out and forseeing the nuckleheads who will read too deep or ignore the obvious just to be an ass.
Ofcourse the list isn't unique. He said... not... a... clone. Hey, guess what, you use keys 1-6 BAM WoW clone lol, no, just no. Can't even believe someone had the balls to use the first person being done before as an example lol. Fuckin morons.
Anyone with half a brain knows a genre is a genre, and can see what the OP was getting at. I can call Call of Duty Ghosts a clone of DOOM for that matter. Technically it is, technically so is just about any game in any genre a clone of the originator. But why the hell would I waste my time doing that.
Hey guess what.. He changed the title. He even says he was gonna change the title in a response. Nobody was being an ass in the slightest except....... Originally the thread was about what made the game unique and that was what was being discussed.
"How unique is this game? In your guys's opinion? Because personally i think its very unique" was the actual OP title. Good day.
So you picked apart each thing from his list and said it was used before without even thinking he meant the whole package? I mean the whole package is considered the game right? Or was it only the first person part ? That's my point, everyone takes things literally without using their brain or reading the topic as a whole and coming to that conclusion. All for the sole purpose as to try and shut someone down. Or did you really think the OP really thought that first person hadn't been used before? Come on, don't give me that crap. Read between the lines, its really pretty simple. 8)
Did you even read the OP? I think your problem here is you jumped to the conclusion that everyone responded with the attempt to "shut him down" when in fact I came in here for the purpose of discussion which is why I have responded in the first place. I don't pretend to read between the lines and assume what others mean and it is probably a good habit to adopt since I don't personally know the OP. Like I said before to others, if I were to read between the lines and assume he meant the whole package then every single game ever created is "unique" and listing their features individually is a moot point. Judging from your initial reaction and post, you giving me advice on what to read and how to respond seems laughable.
Sure did read it. You read too deep into his usage of unique. Sure he could have worded it better. The fact remains, you and others decided to not use your gut and then state the obvious about features that had been used before... The games in MMOs give a mix of features that as a whole give a feel or character (not avatar). That is what the OP was implying, was pretty easy to see. Then people come in, and say, nope its all been done before. Well no shit its been done before. Does the word duh mean anything to you ? 8)
I'll just agree to disagree and leave it at that. I responded to the OP and others civilly and only to what was written and not assumed. Mud slinging followed by 8) doesn't make your reply's any less flaming and I'll just block you so that I don't get an infraction. Any one of your reply's clearly break ROC for this site and could easily be reported so I'll refrain from any further discussion.

Next time you decide to attack people check the title of what they responded to. It is still listed as "How unique is this game? In your guys's opinion? Because personally i think its very unique" for most of those responses.
Is it unique as a whole for those reasons or do you know other games with all of these things together. You told us you have heard of those things in disparate locations and some of them not even a game name at all so, have you seen them all able to be encountered in a single game as they will be in this one?
No and that was not what the discussion was about initially. See my above post. Many of you are coming across as defensive when it is not necessary since my decision to respond to the OP was in no way an attack on the game. I wasn't being an ass either when I stated it was either his first MMO or he misunderstood the meaning of unique because that is what it sounded like when I read his list. I also elaborated on each of his listed items so I didn't come off as trolling his thread. Many can argue that Rift is a blatant WoW clone but I can make a list of features that make Rift "unique" going off your description.
I think there are some WoW clones. You don't have to be identical to be a clone but if the game feels very much like WoW and uses tab target and a large skill list its a clone. So FFXIV, SWTOR, and Rift were all WoW clones. If the game is 80% alike its a clone.
GW2 was never a WoW clone though - its very different. And so is TESO. TESO so far seems kinda like GW2 with a trinity and some progression. That's a pretty damn good game. I heard the combat is not as good though. We will find out..
ESO is unique, nobody can argue that point without looking like a fool, lol
No SINGLE other MMO has the the combination of features that ESO has, or has even implemented the shared features in the same way.
A "clone" is an exact copy, so if a game has 2 features from each of 10 other games, which game is it a clone of exactly ?
You could say that the individual features of the game are mostly derivatives of features from other games, but the way ESO combines them all is definitely unique.
By that definition almost every single MMO is unique. Snowflakes are all unique because none is exactly like the other, but guess what? They are all still snowflakes.
ESO has some interesting aspects which it brings to the MMO genre but overall it is pretty much your standard ThemePark RvR MMO. I would even say that WAR felt more innovative than ESO because it brought some interesting class mechanics and the viable ability to PvP yourself up to level cap.
ESO has interesting combat and somewhat free skill/class system but action based combat has been done before (TERA) and games like Asheron's Call, released over a decade ago, had an even more open skill based leveling system. And I shouldn't even need to say where three faction RvR has been done before...
In any case, ESO seems like a decent game, far more MMO than say for example SW:TOR. And it will keep people busy for a few months but they could have gone far more unique and more like Elder Scrolls, if they wanted to. In the end they played it pretty safe and went with a design which is not that different from your typical ThemePark MMO, kind of like GW 2. Except does it even have Rifts and events that randomly occur in the world?
Imo, ESO is: 33% WoW, 16.5% GW 2, 16.5% DAoC and 33% Elder Scrolls
I would have preferred: 75% Elder Scrolls and 25% DAoC. But that's just me...

Alright, alright i see whats going on here. I will change description/title.
Guys what i meant by unique is basically uncommon. Its almost impossible to have a MMO with features that are totally new.
This game has lots of cool things you cant find in very much games (such as lock-pick mini game.)
Edit: Oh and even things that are in other games and in TESO, like siege weapons for example, teso does not copy and paste. It adds its own little uniqueness to it.
So by your own words... ESO is a WoW clone because what you described above is exactly what Bilzzard did with WoW. =P
Its not a clone but its not revolutionary either. Mmos needs to start taking BIG risks. Not changing some things here and there and sticking to the norm in everything else. Its still a generic Themepark mmo with some minor twists.
Playing: FFXIV, DnL, and World of Warships Waiting on: Ashes of Creation
My opinion is this is either your first MMORPG, or you don't know what unique means. I am happy you are hyped for the game though.
The first person mode in this game is not like other mmo's.
It feels more like, say skyrim than say LOTRO. Other mmo's you feel like you are sort of a camera floating along. In this game it feels more like you are an actual character.
There really is no comparison
I wasn't arguing whether or not the first person mode was superior to other games. That's an opinion and to each their own. But Wurm for example, had first person gameplay thus making it not unique to TESO.
It's even possible in WoW...just zoom in (and you can be inbetween, which I found out while shooting video!).
Maybe it is unique that a game has every one of those features though. For me the play style did not feel different enough for it to stand out. I am however one of those people that did not play long. I am also under the belief a game should grab you right away. If you pay for a game it seems silly that a lot of the player base agrees the first 10 levels suck.
I wouldn't say it is a clone, just a Frankenstein.
Note: I think it is the first 10 levels, but i could be wrong.
How unique is this game? In your guys's opinion? Because personally i think its very unique.
And just because i am saying unique, does not literally mean its the only game with that feature. It means its less common in the mmo world. It does not have to be new, just uncommon and even different. Innovative.
Here are a couple reasons why i think that people who say that this game is a clone is wrong:
You can be super-natural creatures. And infect other players.
1st person mode.
Any class can use any weapon and armor.
Exploration is actually rewarding (this was tried in GW2 but kinda failed.)
Huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge PvP map.
Real time combat.
You can sneak. (Not totally new but its not very common.)
You can open locked chest by the lock-pick mini game.
Crafting supplies come up random (even though you will find ores usually on the side of rocks/mountains, for example, it will not respawn there.) I also like how wildlife runs away (cool for immersion.)
Can find maps leading to treasure chest.
Can find lore books, and game keeps track of the lore you find.
Can read books, and sometimes books will increase your level in a specific skill (such as light armor.)
Players can be all professions.
You can upgrade abilities by "morphing" them.
Skills level up when you use them (again like light armor.)
You can choose to upgrade magica, stamina, or health every time you level up. Choose.
Can search basically anything like crates for instance. Also, can take things like bread for instance that is out in "public."
Has a new game plus.
Can weapon swap at level 15 (not totally new but few games have it.)
Can use siege weapons like catapults in PvP. (Again not new but is A LOT better than most MMOs with siege weapons.) Lots of variety. (You can use rotten meat for crying out loud!
That is all that basically comes to mind at the moment. If i think of more i will add to this list.
So, what are your guys's opinions.
I don't think the word 'unique' means what you think it means. None of the points you listed make ESO unique.
All this stuff has been done before.
"The problem is that the hardcore folks always want the same thing: 'We want exactly what you gave us before, but it has to be completely different.' -Jesse Schell
"Online gamers are the most ludicrously entitled beings since Caligula made his horse a senator, and at least the horse never said anything stupid." -Luke McKinney
Maybe it is unique that a game has every one of those features though. For me the play style did not feel different enough for it to stand out. It's about 5 levels before the game opens up ...perhaps 2 hours play time
If having these different features pulled from other sources all in one game makes it unique then every MMO is unique. Every single one of them. Every one of them pulls different ideas from different games that came before in a different combination. You all refuse to talk about this point though. So, if every game is unique due to them each having a different total feature list then this whole discussion is a moot point.
The point here is that ESO is not pushing any boundaries, not trying to break the mold in any way. It's following tried and true gaming ideas in MMOs, that doesn't make it unique. If EQN manages to launch with all the features they claim that would be truly unique. Asheron's Call was unique. Eve is unique. TESO not unique.
Before the OP changed the name of his post, this was the point of the discussion. I'm not claiming it's a clone, that's the other end of the spectrum. It definitely isn't a clone. Is it a fun game? Sure it's entertaining. But it's not a unique snowflake.
Just to question the philosophy. Army of Socrates.

The OP is saying that the overall features give just enough of a unique feeling to the game that it feels like something we haven't experienced exactly before.
Kinf of funny when people say well this game in 1999 had this particular feature its been done already. Hell every MMO can use keyboard controls thats been done before they must all be clones! This game has PVP! Clone! Quests?? Not that same old thing!
You can usually tell a reskinned asian F2P which is a true clone since they have barely any differences and no budget.
If a game has the same crafting/ AvA/ factions/ quest chains/ new game+/ no auction house/ exploration/ lootable clutter/ 1st person not zoomed in camera/ racial bonuses/ minimal UI/ blocking mechanics...... then I might consider it a clone

If it is called "wow clone"... all the fanboi get defensive and start telling you what's wrong.
I don't know what is so wrong about being wow clone. I suppose all the propaganda spread from sandbox players hate made it into a bad term.
