If having these different features pulled from other sources all in one game makes it unique then every MMO is unique. Every single one of them. Every one of them pulls different ideas from different games that came before in a different combination. You all refuse to talk about this point though. So, if every game is unique due to them each having a different total feature list then this whole discussion is a moot point.
The point here is that ESO is not pushing any boundaries, not trying to break the mold in any way. It's following tried and true gaming ideas in MMOs, that doesn't make it unique. If EQN manages to launch with all the features they claim that would be truly unique. Asheron's Call was unique. Eve is unique. TESO not unique.
Before the OP changed the name of his post, this was the point of the discussion. I'm not claiming it's a clone, that's the other end of the spectrum. It definitely isn't a clone. Is it a fun game? Sure it's entertaining. But it's not a unique snowflake.
OMG someone who reads rather than knee-jerk attacking. TY sir for taking the time to form an analytical response.
yet its untrue.
Every game does not do this, in fact, its impossible because all ideas had an origin which means every game idea had to have had an original source.
The premise is that there are no more new ideas that can be created which is 100% bogus and a copout for piss poor designers that could not come up with a single new idea. Even SWTOR had INNOVATION in its story telling for an MMO, how telling is it that TESO has nothing?!?
Seriously, they couldn't even think of something they could take from single player games to make this MMO?!? Not even something from TES games that MMOs don't do?!? COME ON!

in gaming terms, to take ideas from a bunch of games in the same genre and through them together is making a CLONE. Clone is not limited to "Exact" copy.
Complete lack of innovation means its bringing nothing new. Also known as more of the same.

I'll be impressed to see all these future non-clone MMOs that dont have a single feature that has ever been done before then. Dont know why people are arguing over semantics.

Semantics would be equating "No new features" to "all new features" as if there is no in-between.

Okay, okay, okay. Your playing with words. Yes i used the word clone but do you really think that i think some games will actually copy and paste from other games? Of course not.
By clone i mean close to the same thing. Something that strives to be like a certain thing. In this instance it would be other mmos.
OP, ignore these trolls. I swear, people these days, the first thing these bored POS's do when they open a thread is find a wording they can attack... It's almost like you need to talk like a politician just to make a thread anymore. Carefully planning out and forseeing the nuckleheads who will read too deep or ignore the obvious just to be an ass.
Ofcourse the list isn't unique. He said... not... a... clone. Hey, guess what, you use keys 1-6 BAM WoW clone lol, no, just no. Can't even believe someone had the balls to use the first person being done before as an example lol. Fuckin morons.
Anyone with half a brain knows a genre is a genre, and can see what the OP was getting at. I can call Call of Duty Ghosts a clone of DOOM for that matter. Technically it is, technically so is just about any game in any genre a clone of the originator. But why the hell would I waste my time doing that.
Hey guess what.. He changed the title. He even says he was gonna change the title in a response. Nobody was being an ass in the slightest except....... Originally the thread was about what made the game unique and that was what was being discussed.
Next time you decide to attack people check the title of what they responded to. It is still listed as "How unique is this game? In your guys's opinion? Because personally i think its very unique" for most of those responses.
Is it unique as a whole for those reasons or do you know other games with all of these things together. You told us you have heard of those things in disparate locations and some of them not even a game name at all so, have you seen them all able to be encountered in a single game as they will be in this one?
No and that was not what the discussion was about initially. See my above post. Many of you are coming across as defensive when it is not necessary since my decision to respond to the OP was in no way an attack on the game. I wasn't being an ass either when I stated it was either his first MMO or he misunderstood the meaning of unique because that is what it sounded like when I read his list. I also elaborated on each of his listed items so I didn't come off as trolling his thread. Many can argue that Rift is a blatant WoW clone but I can make a list of features that make Rift "unique" going off your description.
smokey describes the kind of people you definitley belong to very well
And you make this assumption about my character based on a couple of posts that may have been taken out of context. Smokey came in attacking not even bothering to read the quoted sections otherwise he would have seen that the OP was changed to the point that the topic goes in a completely different direction and making him look like a fool for his initial reaction. He clearly went on the attack without actually reading. I never attacked his wording and I wasn't cutting him down in any way nor have I bashed the game in any way. OP asked for opinions and I gave mine and have since agreed with what others have said to an extent. Troll elsewhere.
Wrong.
I came in attacking because I'm sick of everyone taking words so literally. When it was obvious to a multitude of people what he was getting at. Obvious. But yet, people see, hey he misworded I have my window to pick it apart. I'm betting, you saw the original title and came into the thread planning to dismantle it.
Again, MMOs have a feel to them. This one in particular has an old school vibe to it, that in todays market, gives it a nice feel. But hey we can pick words apart all day. In the end, I understood what the OP meant and you didn't. Agreeably his initial post was worded poorly which I admitted already. Yet, even after the OP has came back and explained what he meant more clearly, people are still arguing about it being unique. When in actuality he meant the TESO experience.
If you want to argue why the experience is not unique fine, but picking apart a list saying a game 10 years ago had that feature. Um, that's weaksauce. 8)
Just forget the amazing Daoc PvP in Cyrodiil, and put aside what could be really awesome high end Elder Scrolls content, (no one has seen ANYTHING outside the starting zones in beta) the kill system its self sets it miles apart from any other mmorpg we have now.

People are going to be intentionally obtuse and stupid when it comes to your list, so you will have to look past them.
Like first person mode, be more specific.
How many MMOS have a fully animated, with your arms and hands working objects, spells animated from hands, etc, etc, etc... First person mode. Just zooming down and looking out from the characters face with nothing else visible or very little visible, is not the same thing.
People like to prattle about and knock things without giving the extra thought deserved.

Wow..... so when i said 1st person mode, people thought....? What? Is it that hard to get?
So yeah, when i said 1st person mode i forgot about Wow because they have one too but does that really count? You cant see the arms or spells or anything.

No, YOU are playing with words.
And yes, this game is Dark Age of Camelot at its core design. A design that forced them to alter the lore to fit it, and then betrays it with pre-order bonuses AND causes the story to make no sense at all. 3 factions fighting over a fallen empire on its own makes sense, yet all 3 are at war with each other because they all want those lands, yet cant attack each others lands which is derp beond belief. Now toss in the God of RAPE is invading and trying to take over the world, yet the factions cant actually work together to stop it, because the focus of the base design is still taking over lands that aren't actually a threat to anyone because the empire doesn't have real power to threaten anyone!
Without the DaoC design, there would have been no conflicting issues with this story and it would have opened up the entire world to PvP areas, no no I do NOT mean Free For All PvP, I mean the ability to PvP in more places and actually have a world at war which actually fits the story.
Its locked, because it is built on DaoC core designs.

If that was indeed what the OP meant to begin with, then why feel the need to add that certain list aspects were not unique in and of themselves? Ya know since he clearly meant the whole package. I never argued that the experience as a whole was not unique and have even said as such. Lets not convolute the discussion. I see more people were thinking he meant the same thing I did before he changed the topic so your argument has little base. Yes his post was poorly worded and he has since changed it so everything since can be taken out of context so it is a good thing I quoted his original before it got derailed. He clearly sounds like he put that much thought into it. You are basically forming his intentions for him at this point. It's also odd that you call others an ass when it really didn't get out of hand until your post. I actually stated in an earlier response that everything you say I am doing was in no way what I was doing and it is time stamped so someone just didn't bother to read before bashing. I can admit I may have misunderstood the OP and no I was not intentionally being obtuse or rude in any way.

You may have only played clones, doesn't mean all games are clones. Sure doesn't make calling a clone, not a clone, correct or justified in any way shape or form. You guys just plain NEED to make excuses, why I have no idea, but perhaps your subconscious mind needs a reason to justify spend more money on basically the same crap in a new bag.

whether or not you like ESO and if you think its a good or bad game.
thinking it is a clone is a bit sily, if thats what you want to think well ok, people like wearing straight jackets as well and who can blame them they are so comfy and let you hug yourself so i wont discriminate.
but personlly i think the whole idea is silly and has no reall base to stand on, the only thing they might be considered a clone of is TES series but then agian it kinda is meant to be, although i think the diffrence between them is a bit more then i liked anyway.
F2P may be the way of the future, but ya know they dont make them like they used to Proper Grammer & spelling are extra, corrections will be LOL at.
I never understand why this question comes up with most game releases.
All themeparks are not clones, but they are themeparks, so yes, of course they will share traits, or borrow ideas from other games. They will add a specific feature, or try to innovate something new that makes it uniquely their own.
That said, they are all going to be based on themepark ideals, so sure, they will bear many similarities.
Is ESO a clone? No, but it has plenty of elements you see in most other themeparks, along with a few things that it is trying to make it's own. Clone? No, Themepark? Yes.

Well said. I do hope there wind up being more sandbox elements in this title because the single players were that way. I will not judge the game on that aspect though if it isn't because I personally do not have a beef with themeparks although I find myself wanting to play a good sandbox again.
How unique is this game? In your guys's opinion? Because personally i think its very unique.
And just because i am saying unique, does not literally mean its the only game with that feature. It means its less common in the mmo world. It does not have to be new, just uncommon and even different. Innovative.
Here are a couple reasons why i think that people who say that this game is a clone is wrong:
You can be super-natural creatures. And infect other players.
1st person mode.
Any class can use any weapon and armor.
Exploration is actually rewarding (this was tried in GW2 but kinda failed.) - it kinda didn't fail, you can level just by exploring so I don't see how it failed
Huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge PvP map. not really innovative idea
Real time combat. how is this new?
You can sneak. (Not totally new but its not very common.)
You can open locked chest by the lock-pick mini game.
Crafting supplies come up random (even though you will find ores usually on the side of rocks/mountains, for example, it will not respawn there.) I also like how wildlife runs away (cool for immersion.)
Can find maps leading to treasure chest.
Can find lore books, and game keeps track of the lore you find. many mmorpgs have that, most recent - GW2 with a lot of books
Can read books, and sometimes books will increase your level in a specific skill (such as light armor.)
Players can be all professions.
You can upgrade abilities by "morphing" them.
Skills level up when you use them (again like light armor.) Skyrim
You can choose to upgrade magica, stamina, or health every time you level up. Choose. nothing new, you could've done that in skyrim (taking most recent game)
Can search basically anything like crates for instance. Also, can take things like bread for instance that is out in "public." yeah but they removed the "stealing" option, which makes me sad. and regarding ES games, it's nothing new.
Has a new game plus.
Can weapon swap at level 15 (not totally new but few games have it.) - done in gw2 most recently
Can use siege weapons like catapults in PvP. (Again not new but is A LOT better than most MMOs with siege weapons.) Lots of variety. (You can use rotten meat for crying out loud! not interesting nor new really gw2 has catapults, trebuchets, guns, arrow carts and what not and it's not that amazing after a while.
That is all that basically comes to mind at the moment. If i think of more i will add to this list.
So, what are your guys's opinions.
just to be clear, I'm not bashing the game I'm just stating what I remember from other games. ESO isn't really innovative, especially not because well, it's an ES game so most of the stuff we've already seen in previos games and to be honest, most of the stuff were better executed in those previous games, a lot better. I'd dare to say that ESO looks like a low budget ES xD
even tho I don't really care about "clones" because if there's something I like I'll play it no matter what...
I was hoping to try the game and be amazed, but all I was left with was dissapointment, saddnes and feeling that I was bored to death after just 2 hours of playing, tho I think that I was just sad mostly. The game kinda left me with: "is this everything they were doing? This, we get to play this?! Damn.", feels like there's A LOT of work in front of them because the game seems unfinished (and no I don't mean BETA unfinished, I mean some stuff there look like they shouldn't even be there or even that some things are just missing, laggish, cluncky or what not).

but neither are the games comming out ( new or older)

the game ( so far ) is sort of fun but not in a way that it shocked me with unique concepts.

yet its untrue.
COME ON!

You do know what the word CLONE means don't you?
clone
/a. a cell
, cell product, or organism that is genetically identical to the unit or individual from which it was derived.
b. a population of identical units, cells, or individuals that derive from the same ancestral line
in gaming terms, to take ideas from a bunch of games in the same genre and through them together is making a CLONE. Clone is not limited to "Exact" copy.
Complete lack of innovation means its bringing nothing new. Also known as more of the same.

Nasty old tasting rotten weaksauce at that! XD
Wow...
Yeah, on this site, it really is that hard to get
If you leave stuff like that vaguely described, you will get the ant-swarm attack your post faster than a school of pirahna eat a kitten.

His list was itemized and labeled with parts that even he admitted were not unique making it a check list and not a whole picture and that is how I took it. Everything else you have said has been slander and presumptuous.

Agreed. Why attack the discussion when you can attack the posters.
RIP Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan and Paul Gray.
Simple, he was trying to cover his bases, knowing someone was going to come in and be an ass... Did't take long did it? Most people do it on the net anymore. He just didn't cover them enough or get his thread intent acrossed. If you can't see coming into someone's thread ( and misinterpreting it ) only to basically say, nope, no, not new, done as being an ass. Well I'm speechless. 8)
To what WoW? Which is also a clone
RIP Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan and Paul Gray.
And what was TSW a clone of? Nothing.
What about Vindictus? Nothing.
City of heroes? Nothing.
Asherons Call 1? Nothing.
Anarchy Online? Nothing.
Star Wars Galaxies? Nothing.
Eve? Nothing.
You may have only played clones, doesn't mean all games are clones. Sure doesn't make calling a clone, not a clone, correct or justified in any way shape or form. You guys just plain NEED to make excuses, why I have no idea, but perhaps your subconscious mind needs a reason to justify spend more money on basically the same crap in a new bag.

so just putting my two cents in here.
whether or not you like ESO and if you think its a good or bad game.
thinking it is a clone is a bit sily, if thats what you want to think well ok, people like wearing straight jackets as well and who can blame them they are so comfy and let you hug yourself so i wont discriminate.
but personlly i think the whole idea is silly and has no reall base to stand on, the only thing they might be considered a clone of is TES series but then agian it kinda is meant to be, although i think the diffrence between them is a bit more then i liked anyway.
F2P may be the way of the future, but ya know they dont make them like they used to
Proper Grammer & spelling are extra, corrections will be LOL at.
RIP Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan and Paul Gray.
just to be clear, I'm not bashing the game I'm just stating what I remember from other games. ESO isn't really innovative, especially not because well, it's an ES game so most of the stuff we've already seen in previos games and to be honest, most of the stuff were better executed in those previous games, a lot better. I'd dare to say that ESO looks like a low budget ES xD
