It is an RPG....MMO is not a genre.

MMO is a genre, usually combined with some other genre to form a particular type of game (MMOFPS, MMORPG). ESO is both a RPG and MMO which makes it a MMORPG.

Not sure I would agree with that.  MMO is more a subcategory of different Genre.  Genre usually tells you more than a lot of people can play it.  If I told you I made a MMO game you would really have no clue what to expect.  If I say RPG, FPS, Strategy, Simulator....you now have an idea.

    i just laughed so hard.

This is like the first game that they fix stuff and people cry about it (except for balance issues, everyone QQ's about that kind of stuff).  You cry about bugs, they fix the bugs, and you cry about them fixing the bug....I wonder sometimes if these people even play MMOs anymore, or they're just all bitter because the joined WoW, but they aren't really MMO players.

Actually its about time we told you the truth... These forums are the game. The games people are complaining about are really just expansion packs to these forums. MMORPG.com is a full PvP game (no full loot as we well, don't have loot....).

There are 3 types of people in the world.
1.) Those who make things happen
2.) Those who watch things happen
3.) And those who wonder "What the %#*& just happened?!"

By stating your game is a MMO you will create a certain perception of what your game will entail. You are being intellectually dishonest if you are saying that a game being a MMO gives you no clue as to what kind of game you will be playing.

RPG, FPS, Strategy, Simulator and whatever else you want to include only further define what the particular MMO will be about. All of those terms are genres by themselves, including MMO.

What I see is a laundry list of things that should have been repaired before beta, that they openly admit they still haven't fixed (hence PTS). Glad I did a Paypal dispute to get my money back.

It's a damn shame their terrible business ethics have crushed what was potentially the best MMO of the Decade.

I think you are being deceptive and not forthcoming when you say that MMO gives any more description than saying Single-Player game.

I only skimmed through the patch notes but I couldn't see anything about limiting the loot people get from camping bosses in public dungeons . I'm sick of seeing 20 people around what would be an interesting boss fight . I'm lucky if i can get one shot on it before it dies . Such a sloppy design .

I look at it a lot like Age of Conan and its bugs, that game eventually got fixed perfect, but it had so many bugs that it was unplayable.   With ESO, the game is playable and every major bug I seen so far has been fixed in under 24 hours.   All the other bugs are being fixed as good as Age of Conan was fixed.

Give it two more weeks at this rate and we are going to have a finely polished game on our hands.

Yeah - the theory is sound; but if you've been playing mmo's for any length of time, you know there is a time when.....

The game has bugs....the game gets patched....some bugs not fixed....new bugs appear....the game gets patched.....

So its a longer string of logic in reality and not surprising for a recently released mmo. I agree that some day, most likely, the bugs will be gone. But I've seen games that fixed it in a few months and games that have fixed it in a few years and in some cases games which chose simply not to fix certain things. So the future is still wide open as to the quality of ESO's strike force. Looks to be a promising patch - yet, what new bugs might it unleash?

Fair point, its always a matter of do more get removed than get brought in. My only concern here is that ESO does not try to add too much until the house cleaning is complete. That's always a temptation for a new MMO, give players something new.

So your justification for having is subscription is ..... so they can fix bugs?

    umm... yes.

I absolutely believe they should fix bugs based on the fact that I'm paying a subscription. If I were paying a subscription and they were not fixing bugs, I'd be rather upset.

If it were a microtransaction game, I would fully expect them to be using those funds for fixing bugs.

I expect part of the revenue to be used for fixing bugs no matter what revenue model the game has.

I also expect that my subscription go to new content.

I also believe fixing bugs in a new game should be a higher priority than new content.

I want them to spend my subscription wisely.

The fact that they have an enormous amount of fixes on a new game  HAPPENS IN EVERY MMO, INCLUDING THE ONE YOU LOVE. And I welcome all of them.

So please, find a legitimate argument about this game outside of it doing the same shit EVERY OTHER MMO has done in terms of bug fixes and down time on release in the last 15 years.

So many ESO haters who clearly never made it past level 12 and never downloaded a single add on ( and before you bitch about having to download extra files...)

Realize that modding and addons are a welcome part of the ES franchise and almost always have been.

Sweet fx/ Goldspam blocker/ Combat log/ shard map/ buff bar/  changing my inventory from scrolling to bag/slot style/etc.

Tell me another mmo on the market that welcomes add-ons of this nature and Ill gladly jiggle the balls AND stroke the shaft.

the Reason a lot of the minimap and combat shit weren't included in the release is not because they didn't have time, its because they had it in closed beta and it ruined immersion.

Minimap just made people mindlessly stare at the map and not even take in the environment, the compass for the first 5 levels bugged the shit out of me ... but the fact that it makes you look around and immerse yourself in the game makes me never want another shitty mini map again ( and if you want one.. then download the add on and stfu. )

If the game is not for you , then that's fine... but the fact that people trash this game for doing things other games don't even try or fixing content on a new game ... LIKE EVERY OTHER GAME DOES is a big joke.

In Closing, if you think you got screwed on ESO ...  realize that it could be  A LOT WORSE.. play dark souls 2 for pc w/o the durante fix and tell me it doesn't look like a giant pile of donkey sh*t... like Playstation 2 bait and switch graphics donkey Sh*t.

I hope you're aware that their entire interface design philosophy is based around the traditional Elder Scrolls' minimalist style. If you want to cover your screen with minutia like every other MMO either go get an addon or play another game.

I agree with you but WoW has similar add-ons. Hell, last time I played there was a GPS like addon that directed you where to go, turned in quests for you and even selected the rewards. All you had to do was kill the things it told you to kill.

MMO is a descriptive term, not a genre. Calling 'MMO' a genre is like calling "realistic graphics' a genre.

What is funny is that you don't realize that any genre is a descriptive term, that's the whole point of using "genres".

Replace the word "genre" with the word "category" and you'll realize why "MMO" is both a descriptive term and a genre

And yeah, "realistic graphics" is a genre as well, but few if any people use it.

Also, they are pretty much useless in a console game.

You know this is actually a console game and not aimed at pc players, right?

Stages of a new mmo: 1) It's just beta. It still has plenty of time before release. 2) It just launched. Give it time. WoW wasn't built in a day. 3) We don't need you anyway. 4) F2P announced. 5)Huge influx of players. 6) Look how much has changed. 7) Cash shop is the only thing developed lately. 8) It has been a long journey and we thank everyone who was part of it. Shutting down in 3 months. (Courtesy of Robokapp.)

Where in those quoted posts did you manage to find him stating a justification for a subscription?

We did not, but you beat be to it. If you don't want to resub feel free, if players are going to bail before a month has past they are clearly content locusts in my eyes, he even talked about new content in a later post. That sort of player is never satisfied, they expect a new games worth of content every couple of months.

I'm not looking to play ESO, not really interested and my personal experiences with the game have soured it for me. I am not a hater, but a gamer. I know what I like, I know what I don't like. The only time I get uppity is when people flat out deny or refuse to accept when issues are present in the game, I almost feel like those people are being dishonest to the community around them just because they really want to like the game themselves or are trying to validate their purchase.

Now, it is fantastic news that ESO is on the mend, it is great news for the many many people playing the game who are frustrated by the games current condition. A lot of stuff in the patch notes however are issues that were spotted and reported upon in the Beta, but better late than never.

Patch notes are not praise worthy, its like praising a company for fixing their game. In honest it shouldn't have gone live in the condition it was in. That is a truth and people may argue "well every MMO is the same" but this does not make it right. You learn by your competitions mistakes not reinforce them as a standard.

ESO has been a harrowing experience for many people, fans and newcomers alike. Of course I don't want them to fail, nor do I want people who have found their new MMO home to have their adventures cut short. So, to the people who are currently playing and plan on sticking through the muck and grime I truly hope that your continued adventures become more fruitful and less sullied in the weeks and months to come.
