Sad to say but today I'll be quitting Elder Scrolls Online. The battle to try and enjoy this game has ended and my VR5 character's journey will come to a close. Not because I want to but because I'm essentially forced to. I cannot progress through the game due to the sheer amount of bugs. Just like the issues with the main story line my character cannot progress into the VR6-10 zones because I cannot finish the 'Cadwell's Almanac" requirements. I've spent several days logging out, repeating, and repairing the game but to no avail I cannot progress.
I suppose I'll send in an e-mail to Zenimax tell them I want to obtain a refund and go back to playing less frustrating games like Dark Souls 2 since it just released. Seriously the game was fun when it worked but it has been an uphill struggle that has only become worse the further I progress. From falling through the world, not being able to use my skills and abilities, not being able to auto-attack, not being able to use my siege equipment, many broken quests many of which won't be fixed on the 1.1 patch release, to the infinite load screens, network I/O issues, the memory leak, and various other bugs or exploits.
Good by my little lizard man~ I'll miss you but I must move on and to commemorate this occasion a video:
Good luck finding a new game plenty coming out. I only have one question for you though. Do you use any mods? I have found out 90 percent of my bugs were caused by ESOhead which I downloaded with minion for mods. Just thought I would ask. I uninstalled my mods and haven't had a bug since. They should just disable mods till they get a hold on the game.

What ever your reasons are for quiting they are valid, I just dont have to agree (or disagree) with them.
Personally I have a blast in the game and the issues Ive encountered where inconveniant at best, but thats my own experiance, I dont question yours. I can certainly understand the fustration, I just dont see the point in creating a thread about quiting, it wont solve a thing and is bound to attract drama unfortunately.
If you did love the game you'd do better to give them feedback, which I assume they ask for when you cancel your subscription.
So good luck finding what you are looking for and who knows, you may return at some point.

It could be a possibility I just might return to the game. I'm glad you're enjoying your experience.
It might not be much but even though our experiance with eso differ, I can actually say I can support your "I quit" post.

OP..I don't know if you were one of those who fed the problem, but this is why NOBODY should be paying for pre orders or handing over any money until they are sure the developer put in the effort to release a FINISHED product.
It is actually against the law to sell an unsatisfactory product, which is why anyone could easily get their money back with enough complaints and feedback.
Here is the issue i have,we saw Square Enix shut down subscriptions and set in motion to put a ton of money back into the game to get it right. That is the first time i ever saw a developer show some care for their product. We are not seeing Zenimax do anything except continue to take your money for an unfinished product.
Gamer's need to show some patience, sit back and wait to trial a game before giving money.
There is a catch 22 to the whole thing, devs see a huge investment and start to panic, their investors want to see some money rolling in so they rush out the product or just finished it half ass missing tons of potential content. Then on the other hand you get the devs who from day 1 day 1 do not plan on spending much nor building a Triple A game,so gamer's lose either way.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
What do you expect from these newer "gamers"? They bitch about bugs but then brag about games that had worse launches or are a bigger mess currently than ESO and brag about WOW and they are obviously too young to have been around for that "awesome" launch. Ignorance is bliss but only for the ignorant.
A much better launch. Period. Just as you expect way more from modern products. You expect your self-assembly stuff to fit together perfectly, your dirt cheap watch to tell time to the nanosecond and so on. Much more.
You mention WoW - I assume dismissively. WoW's day 1 problem? Server capacity. Trivial issue today. Despite that people who started WoW from day 5 sis indeed have an awespme launch. Ditto those who transferred. And yes the Customer support was awesome as well with Blizzard apologising, and being believed when they said it was a server capacity issue, and compensating those who suffered. Don't misunderstand - those first 20 servers had a bucketload of issues and a few servers were plagued for months - but wouldn't it have been nice if TESO had been able to turn on a new server and the problems had gone away.
The bigger question: with all the advances in programming, computer power etc. why has TESO's launch been so plagued. Why did it launch with many, many, many more bugs than WoW - whose patch history is a matter of record.
I expect modern games to be better. In the same way I expect modern products to be better. We all should imo.
(Your comment about people who bitch on the one hand and brag on the other - agree. But I expect better.)
Shout Out to Zenimax for another patch cycle where Lesser Circle, Summoners, and other World Bosses with bugged mobs still get completely ignored and not fixed. That's always a refreshing feeling.
P.S. Skills and mouse clicks still not registering. Hit boxes still wonky and mobs dying 2-3 seconds after they're supposed to already be dead.

You arent wrong but not entirely right either. A product needs to meet a certain legal requirement, if the product are within the parameters, they are not obligated to refund you, also legally they are alowed to fix the issue before they are legally obligacted to either compensate or refund.
We got a bit spoiled with the trow away sociaty, Nowadays when you buy lets say.. a Phone and it doesnt work properly or doesnt work at all, a store blindly replaces it. But they are legally alowed to sent it to the manufacturer to let them fix it, without offering a (temperal) replacement in the meantime.

Was thinking mentioning FF and what they did, though i still dont think its particularly good game they did take responsibility and try to do as much as they can in what little time they had.
And while it also might be true that there may be a bit quiet in near future as far as big budget MMOs are concerned (is there any big budget MMO even on horizon after SWTOR and ESO? ), WoW carrot on the stick is still dangling in front of investors, but they (along the developers) might slowly realize they might have to rethink the strategy of how o try to reach for it.
While I completely understand why you are quitting the game do you really think a whole new thread was needed to announce this to everyone? I mean there are countless threads discussing the issues people are having with the game. I think you could have just posted in those instead of making a whole new post for all the naysayers(justified and unjustified) and defenders(right or wrong) to come into.
Hope you have better luck with your next game.
Sure, a whole new thread lets him tell his story fresh without the churn of a huge thread somewhere else that spirals into a debate between a handful of people. By creating his own thread there is a better chance that people will see his post before things spiral into a back and forth between ESO fanbois and haters.
I mean look... you actually read his post and even questioned him, if he was a post in one of the other 50+ page threads it would likely go unnoticed.

Hate to say this but bliz really only gave 7 days to compensate for the stability issues the server had due to water damage. The list of bugs and issues WoW had where used, quest items not dropping, misteriously disapearing and not disapearing after completion (and being undeleteble), a complete disfunctional class due to design and bugged skills, falling through the world bug, npcs spawning under the world, ghost damage, pathing issues just to pick a few. I wouldnt say WoW was less bugg at launch, but then again.. it is irrelevant.
Regardless how bad their launch was it is NO justification for someone elses launch.
Yeah, I should have made a *sarcasm* remark after that post... oh well. I'm enjoying listening to how many people truly hate the fact that I was displeased with this game.
It's not that you're displeased with "this game", so much as it is that you've expressed dissatisfaction with "their game" - as in, the fans' game. You've voiced criticism of it, and they just will not tolerate that. It's "their game", and you're not allowed to criticise it... or face what they've been throwing at you throughout this entire thread.
In reading this thread - and I've read the whole thing up to this point - all I'm seeing are a number of people having a cow because you:
A) Came out and calmly stated your dissatisfaction the game
Calmly gave specific examples of issues you've had when challenged
C) Requested a refund and got it - despite the insistence that you wouldn't get it.
Notice how quickly turned their arguments to attacking you personally once they realized that you did, in fact get the refund they were certain you wouldn't? That turn of events was as predictable as can be. What else are they gonna do, say "Oh, well, I guess you had a valid case, then?". Of course not. That would be conceding that "their game" has a larger number of issues than they want to admit. So, of course they're going to target you personally. Ad-hominems are the last resort of someone with nothing else to say.
What I get a kick out of is how after you've given quite descriptive accounts of what you've done, what you've dealt with and how you've tried to make your way through the game despite all the road-blocks and issues you've had... there are people who keep trying to say you weren't due a refund because "you played the game for as long as you did". I guess the idea that "struggling to use a product that is giving you nothing but continuous issues" is no different to them than "playing and enjoying a product". You nailed it.. You bought a product, that product did not work - despite your continuous efforts to try and deal with all the issues it presented. But of course, they can't acknowledge that either... because, again.. that would be conceding that "their game" has more issues than they want to admit.
This entire thread has been a wonderful text-book demonstration of just how people will invest far too much of themselves into defending a MMO they like against any and all criticism... even resorting to personal insults and character assassination when things aren't falling their direction.
You absolutely did the right thing, and it's awesome that Zeni issued you the refund.
All this thread boils down to - like so many others - is that you've openly criticized "their game". Nothing you say, no amount of explanation, illustration or what-have-you is going to make a bit of difference. They're not interested in hearing or understanding your side. You criticized "their game", and now they have to do everything they can to dismiss everything you've said. That's all it boils down to. Intolerant, closed-minded individuals treating critical opinions of "their game" as though they were personal insults.
Interesting. Several members of the guild I am in are VR10. Funny how they were able to get past VR5.
Well goodbye.
I play every day and have not come into contact with a single "game breaking bug" i wonder how many of these people are just stupid and can't figure out the puzzles and blame the devs and quit.
yeah... tell that to my level 43 nightblade that got content locked from progressing into cold harbor because his level 20 story quest got bugged out in the scene for "castle of the worm" where lyris and abnur have a conversation and she punches him in the face... the game bugged and crashed, then i couldnt view the cutscene, no amount of logging in or out could fix it no amount of resetting the instance could fix it and i literally had to get a CS to abandon the quest because players dont have the ability to abandon all quests in game only some of them, this process took ZOS 2 weeks to complete and in the meantime i had leveled a sorc to Vet 1 so i havent even touched my 43 nightblade since. This was also acknowledged by ZOS as a gamebreaking bug and was fixed over 3 different patches until they got it right.
go have a look at all the patch notes, basically everyone one of the quests that were fixed were uncompletable or content blocking.
i have no idea if you're ignorant, arrogant or just trolling here.

Hate to say this but alot of those ZOS acknowlaged game breaking issues dont seem to affect everyone. Not to mention some seem to the faction/race/class specivic or entered the game in one of the patches. WHich means there are many may reasons why some people did not experiance these issues. So before calling something out please take that into consideration.

Yeah, people's experience does vary from one to another. This simply is one of the worst experiences I've had when it comes to a release.
How strange as it may sound. it would have been better if these issues affected everyone, it would have been a whole lot easier to fix.
Some people are fustrated with the issues they experianced, but think about it, what good does it do to get upset with the people who's experiance differs then yours?
mbrodie's experiance is different then mine but I comment him on the way he deals with it. Sure I would have prevered his experiance to be as good as mine but I DO encourage him and anyone to contact zenimax and provide them with feedback that may get them their refund. Atleast that way his departure from the game may improve it for me.

Intolerant, closed-minded individuals treating critical opinions of "their game" as though they were personal insults.
yeah... tell that to my level 43 nightblade that got content locked from progressing into cold harbor because his level 20 story quest got bugged out in the scene for "castle of the worm" where lyris and abnur have a conversation and she punches him in the face... the game bugged and crashed, then i couldnt view the cutscene, no amount of logging in or out could fix it no amount of resetting the instance could fix it and i literally had to get a CS to abandon the quest because players dont have the ability to abandon all quests in game only some of them, this process took ZOS 2 weeks to complete and in the meantime i had leveled a sorc to Vet 1 so i havent even touched my 43 nightblade since.
Somebody, somewhere has better skills as you have, more experience as you have, is smarter than you, has more friends as you do and can stay online longer. Just pray he's not out to get you.
