It will always be a small niche community that will play the game and then it will die a horrible death when the next PvP game comes out.
This game is DESIGNED to be a niche game and to be sustainable as such. There are enough people interested in RvR/PvP to support the game, and just because it's not for you doesn't mean it's going to "die a horrible death." It still baffles me why people come to CU forums and complain about it not having PvE. This is not a PvE game, get it through your heads. It's very refreshing to me for them to be putting out a game that is new and different than everything else out there. I love RvR/PvP, and I have a job and a life.. I don't want to be forced into raid night twice a week or endlessly running the same dungeons over and over just to be competitive in PvP. If you want PvE, then you are not part of the target audience. Live with it.
Apologies if I come off as harsh. I don't mean to offend anyone, but I'm just so tired of the endless debate about PvE in CU. You wouldn't go to the forums of a full PvE game and complain about the lack of PvP because it's not supposed to be there. Stop coming here and whining about the lack of PvE.
I'm pretty sure he wasn't complaining about the lack of PvE. He was simply pointing out that the lack of PvE means a very small potential player base, and thus the reason for the lack of hype.
Maybe, but other people definitely were. Either way he was being a bit of a douche claiming doom for this game based solely on the fact that it's an RvR game.
Originally posted by ursol the way i see it is if it's anywhere close to what DAOC used to be there will be a nice balance of PVE and RVR. I can't wait for the game to come out
While there probably will be some mobs to kill, in CU we don't level up from killing mobs, only from killing enemy players.
The problem with a PvP focused game these days is the community. There are no longer people willing to police others like in the elder MMOs of UO, Dransik, etc. Back then if you killed someone unfairly, you expected a group of 20+ to come gank you for punishment. Today, if you kill someone there are no consequences.
People saying the game is only funded on 2million right now. Do some research.
2.2million: Kickstarter
500k: Paypal
2 Million: Mark
1 Million: Private Investors
that's at least 5.7million. And that's outdated information on investors/mark contribution. Is it wildstar, TESO, etc. status? No. But those games outside of WoW haven't made nearly as big a splash as they were suppose to. TESO is almost a complete flop tbh.
Is it a niche game? Hell yeah it is, but PvP/RvR players get neglected by PvE focus in almost every game around. They get Tiny updates the company says "Huge Changes!" when its something miniscule that should have been added compared to what gets added for PvE aspects.
No ones saying that its going to be a game killer, or its going to be HUGE. It probably wont, however it'll be a place for PvP/RvR guys to do what they like, what we find fun, and actually get things we want/need updated consistently instead of 6mon-1year for MINOR changes. Balance updates around PvP/RvR instead of PvE as well. That is why the Niche Community it is catering too is Hyped already and are being a bit crazy to be honest about it.
All we have are promises and some Screens from the IT client, which is just an engine demo.
Game has been in production for a year, and has already been delayed 6-months. That puts release at June 2016. Which is too far out to get very hyped about.
I think the game will be good. But a six month delay this early in the process is hard to swallow. I was hoping the game wouldn't get delayed more than 3 months total..... It's unlikely it's going to say at just 6.
Shhh, keep it under wraps, man! MJ has our money and we have the game we want being built. We do not need any more hyped mmorpg.com players added to the mix. Let the latecomers be late.
To answer your question though, there is no hype because there aren't any pretty pictures or videos floating around. You know, the stuff every game, even failed ones, tout before release. Honestly, after the past few years of MMO launches, I am much more excited and happy to be jacked up about ideas versus what the developer wants me to see. Sure, it's a huge gamble...and I hope it pays off, for all of us.
The Hype on MMORPG was at a fever pitch during the KS campaign. I would think that the excitement might just have been spent during that time. Now, with the delays, and the lack of visuals, I think the Hype has turned to buyers remorse (or more accurately, pledgers remorse).

Since the game has already funded and is not even in alpha yet, I'd say there is not more hype because the devs are busy working on the game rather than promoting it in the media.
Better right than rushed. I am involved in too many games to do any of them justice as it is. Better for this game to be well-crafted and superb than rush it out the door. If we want a rushed product we can go over to EA. just sayin'
Easy answer is that the game doesnt exist. Why hype something that may never see the light of day. Critics and media sites arent going to promote something that very well could be vaporware if they can help it. Sure it happens, but they try to limit how often, and this one is surely a contender to be so. Until theres something actually developed and playable, its best they just stay away from it.
First off, why would you ever want to see a game hyped up? How many games have been hyped to the point of disappointment lately? The last think you want is people getting hyped up for the game until they've got completely unrealistic expectations for the game. If you want a successful game you almost have to sneak it under the radar now.
Second, as has been said before the game is still vaporware. It's a lot of promises, posts on forum boards and a few scraps thrown out by the developers.
Third, maybe everyone needs a refresher. Am I the only one that remembers that Mark Jacobs, who is now being hailed as the possible savior of the MMO genre, was the guy who created DAoC, and then proceeded to kill the player base and ruin the game just 24 months later with the Trials of Atlantis expansion? Then he cranked out that turkey called Warhammer. Don't tell me he was not the lead dog on that project. He may have left before the ship sank, but he was captain when it ran into the ice burg. With that as a given I'm a little skeptical when someone bandies around the name "Mark Jacobs".
With those three factors in play I think the "we'll wait and see" approach is wisest. Blessed is he who expecteth nothing for he shall not be disappointed.
Many a small thing has been made large by the right kind of advertising.
I was definitely hyped for this project when I first found it when they started the kickstarter. I followed it for awhile but as others here have said, after awhile there just wasn't much to get hyped about. Recently I really haven't kept up with the project other then when big announcements have come out, merely cause I am waiting to actually see something from the team.
As well as others have said, with all the kickstarter games and a lot not giving what they initially promised, I'm not all that keen on hoping on anyones hype train just yet. There are games I am attempting to support and trying to help get the name out there, but the ones I do this for have something to show for their work. As others have said, this game just doesn't have enough to really get extremely excited for.
Some of the systems seem pretty awesome and new, especially being able to lvl combat classes through RVR but until I can see some gameplay or something of that sort, I will wait to get all excited. This is still one of the few games I am waiting to come out, cause I definitely plan to play. ( I loved DAoC and played a lot of it from release till TOA) However there just isn't enough to there just yet.
Not to mention, even with lvling through RVR, still worried without any real PVE experience that it could get lackluster rather quickly, but time will tell especially once we have some gameplay to go on.
I think personally, that you are clutching at straws, as players who play MOBA's and those who play MMO's are completely different, whether its PVE or PVP, .
I have to disagree completely with this statement. I played DaoC for years and it is still my favorite Mmo for it's pve and pvp. I also played LoL for 4+ years and love it immensely as well. (minus the community). Currently I am playing Marvel Heroes Online and ArcheAge while dabbling in Dawngate every so often.
Even though I prefer 3rd person view used by most mmos, I am waiting for the game developer that can merge the MoBa style play with an MMO world.
Hi-Res has made a good Moba with 3rd person mechanics. (although I'm sure there is another designation associated with smite other than MoBa. I don't see why a company with the right vision and leadership could not make a compelling MMO focused around MoBa style pvp. Which basically Battlegrounds are just that.
Think of it like this. If a battleground, 3rd person or traditional moba view, affected a game world, (akin to the Original Global Agenda Hexmap and control for those who are familiar with it) while maintaining a crafting and resource pve environment and pve missions/dungeons.

I am hyped for Camelot Unchained. Cant wait to see the improvements they make on the old school RvRvR!
Expect an important announcement from Mark Jacobs today 27 August, at Noon EDT :

That's just, like, my opinion, man.
I'm not unhappy that I pledged. I'm just sad to know I've got to wait another 2 years for CU...
Trust me, it's not an engine demo. I'm in IT
