All I care about is that when I log into ESO I see Activity everywhere! Tons of People roaming about in all zones. Including starter zones.
That is a true indication the game is doing well!
Unlike for example Wildstar, where most zones (especially starter zones) were already barren wastelands within 2 months after release.
These charts don't say anything.... most people buy digital these days. Me included.
ESO was actually an exception this time around when I bought it at release, as for me here in Norway, the Retail Box was cheaper than the digital price lol.
Basically this is how I feel, I don't care about charts or my game is better competitions, all i care about is when I log in there are people around having fun. Nothing else really matters, at least to me.
That's the beauty of mega servers. I can't help but wonder if the shoe was on the other foot and if WS was developed with mega servers and ESO was made with static servers, if people would be complaining about dead ESO servers. Doesn't really matter of course. Good on ZOS for choosing the better route with their server tech.

Agreed, I'm sure people would have the same issue with dead zones, as well as tiers in ESO if they didn't have their current architecture. I can't think of a traditional server set up that didn't run into that problem.

I wouldnt say Thriving in such a positive way as there is a lot of evidence that it did not meet internal expectations, however it is carving out a respectable enough niche for its self that it will continue along and the people that enjoy it will continue to see new content.
Which is good enough, as in this current era of MMOs thats all you can and all you should expect. The people that are enjoying it shouldnt worry about how big or small it is aslong as it meets their needs in terms of new content, those that didnt enjoy it so much like me, should simply move on and try something else, which is what I did. However I do enjoy the debates around games so I like to weigh in with an opinion now and then.
TLDR : While not tearing up trees its doing enough to continue its content cycle.

Indeed while it had its teething issues, the server tech they employed is the future. Splintered shards just dont cut it for themeparks any more due to public perceptions of merges as "failure".

Another important factor, that helps to keep players around. I think some other companies would have benefited by keeping their plans intact and moving forward with content updates rather than F2P transitions.

So yeah top of PC chart sales and not even in top 40 game sales - it means PC games arent selling for shit and ESO total sales were low even as number one on that PC chart.
Here in the UK ESO is priced at £11.99 inc DLC for the digital download, even if you have no intention of playing for that price you just buy it and add it to your game collection.

Uses site to gloat about the game he likes.
Same site shuts his gloating down.

Who cares? Everyone and their dog knew that console games were selling a lot more than PC games. Why are we comparing ESO to console games?
Anyways ESO is one of the very few MMOs where I found tons of UK people playing. At launch everyone in my guild turned out to be from the UK lol.

PC games now outsell console game. That trend started in 2012 I think

just a quick info, from what I saw they also collect the selling from amazon and so on, but they don't take the online sells from the own dev sites or steam or even origin, also tehy only track the sells on UK.
what I can see from this chart, since they don't bother to put numbers, is or pc games are not selling well in UK, or most possible are not sellign at all on that sites they keep mining info from (with they mention a 80% coverage, with I find it hard to be since, well its internet)
so the good info for ESO players is the sold number will be higher then what it mentions on the site,
but the bad news part is other games will also have and since the ESO servers are europe and America(btw they already move the EU servers to Eu or are still on NA?) that means little also you come to a site link a thing like you see my game I play is the top one in selling last month, is kinda sad, shows desperation, and it hurrts more then helps, because when I see posts like this it tells me they are scared with lack of people so lets try to bring some.
because come on, I don't see posts like this for GW2, WoW, and other games who are out for a time already and have a stable number of players, they are more worried about playing they games with people already there and don't even care if more will play or leave.
Full Price = Elder Scrolls won because they dropped the full price to lower levels
All Prices = Elder Scrolls didnt even make the list.
got it now...I think
I should mention that the real meat is net revenue. If you game costs 200 million to make you will have to sell more copies then lets say Kerbal Space Program

The fact that games can hang around for years these days after they have released (Skyrim!) is simply a reflection on how we buy games.
And the fact that none of the PC games makes it into the all format top 40 a reflection on the popularity of PC games - you see the same thing in Amazon's charts for example. And why we have to assume that Zenimax are hard at work on pushing something out for consoles.

Steam has 75 million users and none of that data is captured outside of Steam itself...
actually kinda funny

I don't even know where I'd go to buy a boxed copy of a game anymore ? every games story near me just has console games on the shelves and used copies of PC games that are mostly 2 or 3 years old.
They can special order you in a box if you want to wait a week or two but they don't stock them anymore.
Also..I read a funny article on forbes where the contributor learned the hard way just how many more digital sales there are than retail. They were quoting figures from some game ( it might have been eso ) and said it only sold 75k boxes and there's no way it's going to double that in digital sales so it's a huge flop. It ended up selling 750k units it's first month. Those aren't hard numbers so don't quote me, I read it a while ago.

Shame on you, BC, for casting doubt on the conventional mmorpg.com wisdom that ESO is a flop.
What are you going to say next... that MMOs these days don't all suck? Sheesh...
