I'll tell you what bad looks like. Any MMORPG you play

these kinds of posts wont make your MMO any better. you should admit there's a problem and work towards adressing it not try to hide it.

Once it releases there won't be a chance to do this anymore and your MMO will end up in the dead pile of "it's been a long journey and we would've done things differently".

or maybe you should recognize that different people want different things.   crazy idea, i know.

i don't want to play any of your games.  YOUR stuff looks like boring trash to me.

almost nothing here needs to be changed, you're just not the target audience for this game.

    and i'm happy about that.

i had the complete opposite reaction to these Landmark videos.

i was always skeptical of the game, and now i know we're in for some great games, thanks to these videos proving that SOE is finally seeing (and making) the future of MMOs, across multiple key aspects of them.  they could fail on a lot of points and STILL have a product far superior to almost all the trash MMOs of the last 15 years.

after seeing vids like these, now i KNOW these games will not be rotting and dying like YOUR kind of MMOs are doing.  i know these games have a bright future, cuz they are looking in that direction.

pretty much everything about you and me, and the way we perceive things are opposite.  and i'm glad people like you have lost interest and won't be mucking up the game for me.  thanks.

Their games are dying LOL. They want to create a community here in EQ Nexts forums that trash anything and everything about EQNext and Landmark. They are trolls that band together from various dying games and want to keep new people out of This game making "excuses" like they are giving constructive criticism when no criticism at all is really warranted. I mean, keep your mouth shut and move on it will be decided at release or when there is more info being release. You can tell by their over-dramatic responses that they are dying inside because their games cannot compare and will die out soon. WoW lost a million subscribers in 3 months and this is the fall-out from it...

...That's essentially what being smug is. Acting like you're so blatantly right that even the thought of someone disagreeing with you is appallingly stupid and comical. you have a good chance of bullying them into believing you.

Nothing in the production phase of its lifecycle is above constructive criticism. This is especially true of EQN/Landmark because they are building it out in the open wanting feedback. Unconstructive criticism is useless though and the effort IMO is better spent elsewhere.

Yes, please post only positive reviews here. No room for dissenting opinions or speech. Also being a SOE customer for years who never played WoW is also of no relevance when talking about SOE games. Only positive butt slapping allowed, real opinons hurt feelings.

People complaining about the combat don't seem to understand what Landmark is, and/or they didnt watch the combat panels for EQnext which demonstrated how basic this current combat is.

This is the absolute core system, things will get added on to it later. The Eqnext videos combat looked like a cooler version of GW2 combat.

  • ozmonoozmono Member UncommonPosts: 1,211
I had a look at the video. I wrongly assumed it had been another video I'd already watched. I'm surprised by the negativity. It looks like it's coming along nicely. I was always glad it wasn't tab targeting and that it was more action orientated but the animations looked crappy in the combat video we saw for next previously. This looks like an improvement. Infact I may reinstall landmark and give it a whirl.

...Only if you are honest with your own game. Favoritism can play in part too. I mean, You are generally herding people away from a game to another game and for the new player. He doesnt know the difference. So giving feedback on the video you watched knowing its a community game and that new players are also watching and present you are writing the narrative for them. You dont know how much power you have as a dissenter in america these days. So knowing and hiding information from other people and then giving them one thing when you know better or another is another form of deception and has no place in civil society

This is a ritual they have for whenever there is a new game out. They all come from dying games ( WoW for instance and others ive never heard about) and they attempt to subvert the new players into their mode of thinking, which is comically bad. I mean, if you're thinking 8 bit nintendo minecraft graphics is good and simple building blocks are good enough for 900 million in sales. I dont know what you consider good. Why should we listen to these people? Is the general public retarded where they cant do anything when the building tools are more complex? Are they all kids and crybabies when they dont get their way? Fucking step into the real world and when the liberals lose control in society and the gloves are off, dont cry for protection!

I was playing CoD Black Ops last night for a little bit with the kids, and it was OK..  I showed the kids the EQN video, they commented how lame it was and not interested in it..  I don't blame them..  So I guess the family will stay with the CoD series and Diablo 3..  However, my daughter still wants CoX to come back online.. She misses that game..

You watched the first video. Now watch this. You will see why this is 1500x more successful than that Landmark crap

Its called snare and stun and with the bow its marksmen snipe which auto targets briefly. Plus you lose energy to attack when you hop around and you cant use attacks and only should be used for evasive movements. But why should i get my info from someone who doesnt play the game? I bet you tell Peyton Manning how to avoid a sack from a linebacker from your couch right?

Sorry, but I'm being reductionist with my statements and you and the other guy aren't when you compare it to steering in a racing game? Or to an FPS?

Where's my switching between a rocket launcher, railgun, machinegun, shotgun, sniper rifle with 2 weapon modes each?  Where's the acceleration, brake, U-turns, crashing, burning tires and high adrenaline twitch  gameplay?

Look, I'm not saying this combat represents the final product. For all I know it could change a lot.

But if you want something like that, explain to me how you're going to personalize this kind of combat?  You can only do it through the metagame, AKA: the "numbers on your character sheet" game or the skills you put in your hotbar if you are NOT in combat.

"Spam 1 then sometimes press 2", doesn't exactly leave much room for individual strategy beyond abusing LoS and terrain while you're actually IN combat.

That numbers game is exactly what we've been doing for years. So "exiting the dark ages"? Gods no.

I'm not against action combat in MMO's. But I do wonder why action combat has lately come to mean: let's ape hack & slash games and restrict people to a handfull of skills to spam over and over.

Stop the spam, focus on personality and on tactical play. Perhaps EQN can still get me excited then.

Feel free to use my referral link for SW:TOR if you want to test out the game. You'll get some special unlocks!

For a first draft combat system it actually looks really good.. Will update ti tonight and test it out but so far I am quite happy with how landmark has been progressing and i think it i will end up being an awesome game.

Games like Diablo  / Path of Exile / etc. have their place, but they're hardly the type of game that was associated with large and complex MMO's in the past.

    that's the key right there.

all your ideas of what MMOs should be are all rooted in cliches of the past.

we're finally coming out of the dark ages and getting rid of the 1970's dice rolling "gameplay" for the most part.

(don't argue with me that it won't die, i realize that.... it will always be there, but it won't be the default anymore...it will go back to its niche and stay there in games like ArcheAge)

and like somebody mentioned, this has a lot in common with Darkfall now.   they were way ahead of their time.

Why should one play style be overlooked for another.  There are large enough audiences for both twitch or avatar based combat systems.  The reason why there is so much reaction lately is that everyone so far has jumped on the console / action combat bandwagon.  I guess you won't be bothered when MMOs leave PC gaming behind either.

...I was talking about Everquest Next. You grew up in a generation that doesnt know what a good gameplay is. We'll teach you or we'll leave to your basement. Diablo II was much better than Diablo 3. Age of Empires 2 was much better than Age of Empires 3. Heroes of Might and Magic 3+4 was better than Heroes 5. EQ2 and WoW will be dusted compared to what EQ Next will be. Command and Conquer was a better game than the recent one. Games died when they dumbed it down. I cant even play Divinity: Original Sin without thinking how awesome Baldurs gate and Icewind dale series was. Morrowind was better than Oblivion and slightly better than Skyrim. Dragon Age 2 held my attention more but i forced myself to delve into Skyrim. Dragon Age itself was flawed because theres little variety on what items do and collect. If you are going to go, you go big. Meaning every aspect has to jump. They dont put effort into a game like they use too or 10 years of collective knowledge until an idea bursts and product that screams brilliance is born. Spore, Black and White etc. Europas Universalis and maybe Civilization 5 are well thought out games. But that list goes very shallow.

I mean, racing games and shooters are the only ones where weve made a significant push. And thats because of the more modern technology we have and more in depth weve made it. Action games and Fighting on that list. But dont tell me rpgs or mmorpgs got better. RPGs they need to redo the formula and get people really immersed in the game and there wont be a need for this toxic mmo culture anymore.

I think you're all judging this way too early.

I mean, I was there when Landmark opened it's doors in Alpha. I've seen how far it has come along since then. I am confident that the combat (and it's animations) will only get better from here on out.

If this is just the very start of it, this could turn out to be some epic combat. I'm sure they're not going to leave it as is. It's going to improve for sure. I sense some Darkfall style combat incoming. Hopefully more like DF1 than 2.

You're right and SoE is banking on it but they are also looking for feedback. I think the open development process is a great idea for what Landmark is and will be used for.

It's understandable to judge it for what it is but to expect it not to change knowing SoE's open development process is being dishonest.

This is not a standard MMO production.
