Loving this game, best MMO since EQ for me.

I agree, although for me it is since AO.

It has all the elements to bind servers together and make reputation count. If you are an ass people will know and remember. I'm also happy they don't stick us into instances of 20 players.

It feels like a mmo, not a single player game shoehorned into a "mmo".

My OCD kicked in around lvl11 or 12 and I went to check out a group of 'what the heck is that'  and I never looked back. Now I have found myself a pirate sailing the sea's. Looting, plundering and causing havoc with a great crew and treasure

We just captured a human like folk (we know he is not human) and am taking him back to our lands to have him put to a trial.

This is why I like this game. The freedom you get is there based on what you want to do not what you are told to do

This is the kind of fun gameplay that the 'played questgrind to L20 and quit' guys won't see.

Sadly, most will quit before even talking to another human in game, let alone understanding what is out there.

Yep, and I have a feeling this is part of what's alienating so many. They play solo, grind quests, and then leave in disgust because they feel lonely and are bored grinding quests.

When, simply, it is them that have done that to themselves because of their brain washing through the last decade of solo quest grinders.

But, still, easier to hate on the game than recognise their own actions and choices are the problem.

About my only concern with this game was that I wouldn't be able to level my crafting skills up.

I just joined a guild, so maybe they'll help me with some free farmland.

For the most part I haven't been able to avoid doing quests but I don't mind it.  I just try to stick to areas/quests that are slightly above my level.

By the way, what are all the dungeons in this game?  I know about one, the level 18 one in the City of Towers, but when can I do other dungeons, and where are they?  (Harani faction btw)

I know of 3 dungeons so far (hope there is more)

    SM at level 15

    BC at level 30 Cinder

    HA at level 40 Helswamp

I fail to see the fun in the boat thing. To me it seems very tedious and repetitive.

I am not a crafter, although I do understand that it is a major part of the game. Somehow, farming is just meh.

Leave very little in the game after that. So for me at least, the game isnt a keeper.

I do like the quality of the land however, I have really liked the exploration and all the different settings that you are presented going through the questline. The quests are not good, but the atmosphere is.

I found several posts saying the graphics isnt all that, but after initially thinking the same, today I cant come up with many games that really has done it much better.

They should do... If they don't ask them why or find one that does. As a freeb you DO have value for them, if you are willing to use your labour with things like crafting packs and whatnot for them.

Guild cooperation and mutual support is at the heart if this game.

At level 20 and so far a very solid looking MMOrpg. The best part is the fact it is a REAL mmorpg, and not just  the standard themepark (carrot and stick) cash-dump of late.

So far ArcheAge is very interesting and solid, but what else would you expect from TRION?

  • NobleNerdNobleNerd Member UncommonPosts: 759

Seeing this is a post more about opinions I will input mine.....

ArcheAge has some great concepts, but that is about as far as the game goes.

The questing in the game is poorly designed with many trips to the exact same location, killing the same npcs previously fought. The story lines are boring (just could not think of a better word to describe them). After about 10 levels I started to just F click through them due to lack of interest.

The world is beautiful, but gives you an empty feeling in most of it. Every city I have been in feels more like a ghost town than a living, thriving hub of the world. The building structures and interiors are dull and lack atmospheric excitement.

Combat is OK. It has pretty effects for spells and abilities, but the latency and lag issues make it more frustrating and sometimes unbearable. I test my ping and know this is game server side. This game has no ability queue system and latency controls to limit lag issues, so at times the same ability that takes 1 sec on cd can actually end up to be 2-3 secs.

This game is NOT a sandbox. You can garden and work a farm, own a house BUT they are sectioned off into "Virtual Projects" with limited options. You basically will be doing monotonous mind-numbing tasks to achieve anything in these professions. You do not change or alter the world around you (for the most part). Yes it is a player run economy, but you have little options as to how that is controlled. The crime system is nice, but most players I have seen so far use it as a popularity contest rather than a pure legal system.

Gliders are fun! This is definitely a nice plus in this game. The boats and sea combat is fun also... but again the combat lag and latency issues affect this feature at times.

Just about anything can be purchased in the AH. As a F2P player you can (with much grinding) purchase all you will need to progress. You want to own land and a house? You can purchase APEX in the AH, but take advantage because on the 2 servers I have played the cost is rising fast.

For many wanting to play long term I just do not see much reward per time invested in this game. Seeing the game has been out for many years now I doubt you will see much change from where it is. Korean games do not make drastic changes, so if you like.... enjoy and if you kinda like but want to see changes,,,, best to look elsewhere.

The questing is standard themepark questing, agreed. It does nothing spoecial and acts simply as a tutorial. No one tries to convince anyone that it's blow you away kind of stuff... It's there to show you the world and teach you the game.

You are right, it is not 100% sandbox, but then it never claimed to be. It has extremely strong sandbox elements though and the freedom it allows the player is amazing.

If the prices are rising out of pace with your ability to afford them, maybe you are just behind in your ability to earn money.

I have to wonder at the comprehension being displayed by the people scrabbling to hate this game...

How on Earth is saying this game is the best SINCE everquest 'insulting' everquest?

Can you not see that it isn't comparing it to classic EQ in anyway... The statement actually puts EQ up above all other games and uses it as a benchmark to measure a good MMO by.

    Hardly 'insulting' it.

I am saying that, for me, this is a more enjoyable and fun MMO than anything SINCE everquest (repeating this here, just to help it sink in). I stand by that as an Alpha player 3+ months into it who is really having a blast.

Try to understand what's being said before looking for insult maybe.

In a month when your rose colored fanboi glasses wear off you'll realize how silly it is to even use ArcheAge in the same sentence as Classic EQ(which I just did lol).

One is the most immersive risk vs reward MMO's ever made that paved the way for the rest, the other is a run of the mill asian MMO with a sandbox/themepark identity crisis. Ironically AA is less of a sandbox then most asian MMO's because of how easy it is to hit level cap and the lack of a death penalty.

What does dying and hitting level cap quickly have to do with sandbox?

Also Jake Song himself has called the game a sandpark. Meaning its -half and half-

Question, can you please define what the word "sandbox" means in regards to a "sandbox mmorpg?"

Any mmo worth its salt should be like a good prostitute when it comes to its game world- One hell of a faker, and a damn good shaker!

    1. Read the thread you are now engaging in. You will see I have been playing for months. And I am still a fan.

    2.  I did not compare this game to classic EQ in any positive way, so I see no problem in using the two titles in the same sentence. Personally, I think taking the stance that you are on this is the silly thing here, but that's just me.

The rest of your opinion was disregarded because you clearly did not understand the context in which you should be forming them.

I like the fact that crafting has some meaning in this game.  And the fact that you're always red to the enemy faction makes across sea trade runs so much more interesting.

Just the other day, my guild was transporting cookies to Nuia.  As soon as we hit the shore, one of our guys got in combat with someone.  I tried healing him, but wound up getting killed in the water and dropped my trade pack.

A couple more of us also died and dropped their packs.  Luckily, mine was saved and sold.  But I think we lost 2 trade packs that day.

I was more upset that I was so easily killed lol.  But I was only level 23.

But to me, things like that are what I've been missing in MMOs, something that you can do with a guild that has meaning in the game.

There is some truth in what you say, but ArcheAge is most definitely a sandbox -- an mmo can be a sandbox without it technically being 'a tale in the desert 7' after all. On the other hand, after perfunctory mmos like SWTOR and ESO, ArcheAge feels a lot like a tale in the desert. At least it has a measure of freedom.

Oops.. on that farm run don't stop to fight, just get that pack to the vendor.

At least you got your update though... and I remember the first time I did that run, it was exciting as hell.

Now we are running multiple merchant ships daily and having the same amount of fun . This game is ALL about guild :D

Give it another few weeks when you've actually learned all the ins and outs.

    You'll start hitting the walls.

Wait until that T2 - T3 Hasla grind.

Yea baby. That booty won't be looking so good then...

So much garbage to wade through. Sounded like I could at least get a few weeks out of it. Sadly....not any more after reading up...

Sorry if my positivity regarding the game offends you so deeply.

I hope you find a game to spend a few weeks in sometime soon :)

You may not like it if you have such an emotional hate of some initial theme park questing that you aren't willing to play through it and recognise it for just being the great tutorial it actually is.

This all aside, for those that can see deeper, this game delivers. It has scope and ambition, a sense of wonder, that other MMOs for the last decade or so have completely failed to achieve.

It's an open social co-operative full on real MMORPG in a market full of anemic linear processed fakes.

It's not for the faint hearted casual, it takes a lot of investment to achieve in this game, I won't lie, but pay into it in the same way as we used to be ready to pay into those older classic games and it WILL reward you and deliver you some of the most tense and downright funny moments of your MMORPG career.

    Adventure, politics, and turmeric. :)

I'm sorry for you. You will stay less than a month. Sorry
