Really love this game but don't know how much non fantasy content I can handle. What a shame...

Everquest Next might be the savior after all...

Hahahaha!  I haven't laughed that hard in a while.  That was so over the top that it seems like it's a parody/SNL skit made by a classic MMO'er.  It makes you really wonder what the hell is going on over in Asian culture.  It couldn't be much more different than parts of the west.  I will still play even if this is in the game.  Not like there a lot of games out there like it.

This happens a lot in asian mmos.  They totally destroy immersion all the time.  Just look at Tera, FFXIV, Aion, and even GW2 (even though it isn't technically an asian mmo, but is still influenced by ncsoft).

It's not just asian mmos anymore either, but sometimes even western ones.  One could argue that WoW has many immersion breaking things too.

Does anyone remember how people were freaking out when they found out that WoW was going to have Guns? Yeah, skateboards are a little jarring, but they seem fun, and the technology seems plausible for the time-line, so meh.

You cannot deny that the clothing they are wearing in the video and the boards does not really fit the games athmosphere at all. It does not destroy the game, but it is a big negative when things like this get added.

bwahahahaha. That has to be one of the dumbest things I have seen in an MMO. They must be on dope. Are they really that desperate for activities that aren't boring? I had similar feelings of revulsion when they added motorcycles with side-cars and shit in WoW. So stupid. Game breaking? Not really but it really makes you wonder WTF are they thinking or how desperate are they?

BTW, expect to see similar stupid shit in EQN. They have already primed the pump with Landmark having no official genre so there will be space themes and westerns and all kinds of other stupid crap mashed together. Combine that with their stupidly loose "re-imagining" of EQ lore and it could be a recipe for utter stupidity. Tunare is gone but maybe there is a new goddess of extreme skateboarding!

I think the skateboard looks fine and fits the steampunk-ish elements of the game. The clothing, on the other hand, looks out of place.

If you look at AA as a straight medieval themed MMO then yes it's stupid. I felt the same way when i first saw the cars and the airships. But once i looked as it as more of a final fantasy 7/8 mix with medieval it was a bit easier to accept. Still would rather have my Chocobos

The problem here is the lack of a clearly defined 'Genre', with which to set player expectations.

 

If they just came out and said "AA is some kpop wierdness", I might find it easier to believe in.

Nobody even mentioned the dune buggy like car things. WTF is that? It's ridiculous. They need to add sidewalks and handrails for some wicked grinding dudes! Maybe some space stations and hover craft as well. OH AND DON'T FORGET THE LIGHTSABERS!

This type of 'feature' ruined Tera for me, and I would bet for others as well. So, yea, one misstep and ... well... You're done.

Amazing game or not; it's not what some players want. I don't think it's funny, I think it's actually sad that the Devs would pander to this type of 'option'. So, Pathetic? Indeed... just not on the part of the players.

Well, yes they did, and for this game I say so what? It's had this daft element to it for a long long time and I adjusted to it accordingly. 

 

I am sure that that 100 posters that never intended to play the game will post here outraged by the inclusion of these kind of things, while the vast majority of people having fun in the game will be working towards cars and boards and having a ton of fun with races and whatnot. And, seeing as I don't hate fun, I will probably be joining them.

 

I think that the strength of fantasy is that it can be so much more than a set of tropes and conventions put down in 1937.

Skateboards are not news in AA, they have been in game for quite some time now. An why does it break immersion or make the game "not fantasy"? it is just a piece of wood with small wheel attached to them, people who can create ship can't create something insignificant like skateboards? [mod edit]
