It wouldn't surprise me if all of the people bitching and moaning about skateboards in Archeage were all quite happy and didn't kick up a fuss when the all powerful Blizzard put Helicopters, Motorcycles and Rockets into WOW.
It wont ruin Archeage for me, just because somethings in the game doesn't mean I have to get it and use it myself, and I don't really care what anyone else decides to ride about on as i'm too busy enjoying the rest of the game.
Did you just compare WOW lore to that of AA?
And so what if he did?
Did you read any of the ArcheAge chronicles by Jeon Min-hee - she has the story and the lore of ArcheAge all there. Hopefully we'll get the books translated soon as my Korean is not good.
What i am saying is WOW never takes itself seriously so when they add NPC called Haris Pilton and other silly stuff to the game we know it fits.
Where as AA takes itself quite seriously. I know AA is perfect in your eyes but for rest of us who are not madly in love with the game can see how silly it looks.
I'd find cars and tractors just as jolting to the overall setting.. I know they claim it's steampunk, but I really don't see that in the art design..etc...sounds like an excuse to add whatever they feel like to me and not limit themselves down to a certain genre. Which is all fine and good, but for people to act as though this game is a good representation of a steampunk feel, that's pushing it...

I'm inclined to agree. Mind you, I've only played 1-20 on the Nuian side, but I never seen much that was Steampunk. There's the airships, and the "carriages" that you can take between towns, but that's all I've seen. Everything else (the land, cities, etc.) looks typical medieval/fantasy themed, and not steampunk at all.

That's because the setting of AA is post apocalyptic, for anyone who has been playing a Nuian this is explained in the first set of cutscenes
And for anyone playing a Harani, let me stress that your mount is a robot and there are robot cities and tech cities on the East
With all of this obvious stuff right in your face I seriously have to wonder if people just skip the cutscenes or close their eyes when they run through the Harani robot cities.
Any mmo worth its salt should be like a good prostitute when it comes to its game world- One hell of a faker, and a damn good shaker!

All of this stuff is explained in the cutscenes, you also will find alot of it on the East faction. (Harani first mount is a robot)

Originally posted by Gregor999 The race cars didn't tip you guys off as to how terrible this game is? You want to play a solid MMO you gotta go back in time, about a decade.
Without remembering anything inbetween then and now, though. Wouldn't work otherwise.

In a cutscene? you don't say.
Let me try this again and i will try to keep it simple. It doesn't matter what they explain cutscene when the world itself does a poor job in setting up a steam punk / post apocalyptic theme. That is why such additions to game feel jarring.
There must be a gene for people who just really don't give a fuck. Archeage is a pretty fun game, and I like almost everything about it, except for the anachronistic stuff (the gliders are an exception, as they are Da Vinci-esque). Is there an explanation for it? Yes. Could the world stand on it's own without the soap box trade derby? Yes.
People just glom shit on for no reason sometimes, like the game is fucking jingle truck or something.
Good game, weird sensibilities. Probably should have cut out some of the anachronistic nonsense for the western version.
MMORPG players are often like Hobbits: They don't like Adventures

If that's the way you want to defend this ridiculously odd direction the game is taking, then that's all well and good. AA is steampunk. Okay...got it. But, can you please tell me how baggy jeans, sweatshirts, and baseball caps are considered steampunk?
Again, there is neither steam nor punk in a lot of this, or even anything to go by what steampunk actually IS (victorian era with lots of... well, steam. And smoke. And usually grimey dirty grimdark dirtiness)
This isn't Magitek either.
Pretty sure it's not "ancient technology that's more advanced than anyone's ever seen", either.
They don't really fit with the world itself either. If there are skateboards and cars, why aren't there more PAVED ROADS? Skateboards and cars don't exist in a bubble by themselves in the real world you know. They require things like roads, sidewalks, mechanics, garages, car shops, used car dealerships, skateboard parks... why are there skateboards and cars in a world with no auto-dealers and skateboard parks or car manufacturers? Where do you go to get gas for your car, anyways? That's nonsense.
Again, I don't really care that there are skateboards or cars in the game, but to say they're not immersion breaking because "Steampunk!" is just WRONG. That's not what steampunk is and it doesn't change the fact that there is nothing in the world (gas stations, car manufacturers, rubber factories, whatever else) to support the idea of cars and skateboards.
When you load up Final Fantasy VII, the first thing you see is a huge city with factories and power plants and roads. THAT'S the type of world where you'd find cars and skateboards. You don't find cars and skateboards in a world with rural villages and no traffic lights and no gas stations or no oil refineries or no skateboard ramps or no speed limit signs or anything else.
I don't care what fantasy MMO it is. The inclusion of this (if they do it) is just lame. I would quit any fantasy MMO I play if they added stuff like this.
Lol This really doesn't surprise me. Modern mmo's are turning into a joke. This in a fantasy mmo. All the new gen.players most think this is so rad man.

I'm pretty sure Wildstar already beat them to it.
I don't care for it..but I'd not mind at all if my trusted beast of burden...my donkey, Obram, were allowed to ramp ,rail and grind.
HEE HAWW!! Bitches!!

Quick, what's the Korean word for "anachronism?"

That's what I call culture difference. Koreans doesn't care to keep their games to set style,as long the new item is "cool" it's all good!
