So, if you’re interested in learning which MMOs to play that have the best quests – keep reading!
No please don't because the author of this article has obviously no clue what he is talking about. Couldn't be more off the truth. GW2 has not even real quests and diverse content is not the focus of this arcticle. Read your own stuff!
The author should play more than 5 games to create a ranking. He is missing much, not only quality.
I am constantly amazed at the lack of attention you give SWTOR in these types of articles. The voice acting alone in the character quests cost them a small fortune. The interaction and LS/DS choices in the quest make them very intriguing and highly enjoyable. Tell your tech guys to take the block off SWTOR. Seriously!

I think the thing with SWTOR's quests is that while the class quest lines are really good, the world quest lines aren't so great. The world quest lines might have been good relative to other games' quests and they have good production values in terms of graphics and voice overs, but relative to the class quests they just seem really derivative. SWTOR should have gotten at least an honorable mention though. The class quest lines are really well put together.
I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.
yeah I'm going to assume the OP has no experience with TOR quests. a step under TSW. but TOR is probably the best innovation so far. largest variety for all classes, races, companions. I think the fact that TOR is not on this list is totally inaccurate. GW2 lost me pretty quick with the wandering repetitive world questing. and eso is a very solid quest system that barely feels like questing. and I saw posts saying ESO is good but "too buggy?" lol. clearly left too soon guys. and clearly you weren't playing TSW near launch. talk about bugs :-/
I also think swtor quests are far better. The cut scenes and the character talking and interacting are most enjoyable. ESO I get tired of reading and lose story line and stop paying attention.
I would agree that TSW has some excellent quests, but in the same vane as Neverwinter I think DDO also has some of the best quests of any MMO. Admittedly, the quests in DDO would not appeal to all MMO gamers, due partly to their complexity and often the time investment required, but in terms of long term appeal to seasoned gamers, there is little that really compares.

I think the author favors action MMORPGs, since most of the ones in his list are of that type. The others are so old that he's probably got fond memories of them before he switched to the newer types.
My SWTOR referral link for those wanting to give the game a try. (Newbies get a welcome package while returning players get a few account upgrades to help with their preferred status.)
TSW looked like it would be pretty cool however I wouldn't know because the players in it are only concerned with killing each other and especially new players. I tried several times making new characters and as I'm reading my quest I'm being shot at and die...hang around and watch and other new players spawning in get the same. So unfortunately that's the only opinion I can give on that game and too many other games out so I wouldn't waist my time with TSW again.
Seriously, there is no way that a decent list of "The 5 MMO's with the best quests" can leave out a game that allowed you to create your on story arcs.
Yes, some of you are old enough to know what it was - City of Heroes.
CoH not only had very good mission arcs for individual origins of characters through the lower levels, but it had Architect Entertainment which was a mission-building tool that players could use to generate it's down content.
What better content can there be than content that you create yourself?
Sure some of it was power-leveling drivel (okay most of it) and there was quite of bit of EULA breaking content created (Marvel Comics, ERP, MRP, DC Comics, etc.) , but there were those that took pride in making well-crafted and dialoged original mission arcs.
Players were given the ability to craft 5 missions into one story-arc, and you could even chain these 5-mission story arcs into longer adventures by labeling them with "Part 1", "Part 2", etc as part of the title. It allowed you to address the player by their name, sex, origin, class, and super-group during the text dialog that the player generate during creation. You could add dialog for the initial contact for before and after each mission and add dialog for NPCs inside of each mission. Construction options allowed you to place mobs, set-up the environment visually within preset lay-outs, set triggers for events (boss appearances, ambushes, NPCs to lend assistance or that needed rescue or protection, etc.) You could even design your own enemies including their visual appearance, powers, visual SFX, etc.
Seriously, why isn't City of Heroes on this list?!
A Quest is generally going-here-and-getting-that or going-here-and-slaying-that in order to test a hero in one way or another.
That's what a Quest is.
You might have to find clues or pick-up items along the way, but that's the very basis of what a quest is - a journey filled with heroic encounters in order to achieve a goal.
If you doubt me, then simply look up the definition of "quest".
I know it seems pretty basic, but when it comes down to it, many things in life are pretty basic.
What makes the Quest interesting is the content.
Going to the grocery store to get groceries is a quest, but it simply isn't very exciting. Adding extra encounters along the way can change into being less-mundane or turn into simply-boring. Most of this has to do with the encounters along the way.
The annoying part about games is when the Quest to go to the grocery store turns into side mission where you forget to pick something up at the grocery store and have to go back and get it -- when you probably already knew that you were going to need to pick something else up while you were there but the game wouldn't give you the option to get that item until you go back home, drop the groceries off you already purchased, and get the new mission to go back to the grocery store.
Unfortunately, this is a kind of time-waster that makes a game seem longer than it actually is and it easy on the DEVs because they are simply reusing the same environments repeatedly. This used to be bad enough in the old days, but these days many players are quite satisfied with farming content for one reason or another - which fulfills the time-waster criterion to the "T"
Good Quests need to be inventive and creative in a way that the player doesn't simply feel like they are getting the "run-around", because, really in the end, a Quest is really just a "run-around" with some treasure and/or struggle thrown in.
Foundry quests are a whole different animal. Quests created by players for players. Mods have been doing this for awhile and now they've come to MMO's. It's so popular I don't see why all games don't do this. If ESO had player created quests it would be great.

In no specific order, SWTOR, TSW, ESO, LOTRO.
i don't agree with the rest and the fact you left out TOR is lazy.
