TRION threatens to ban people sitting on benches or sleeping in beds....

Slapshot1188Slapshot1188 Member LegendaryPosts: 17,695

A recent post the  CM threatened bans on anyone found to be sitting on benches in court or sleeping in a bed.  Apparently these mechanisms (which are built into the game) prevent their autokick for AFK feature.

This threat seems ludicrous to me.  They specifically coded these features to KEEP people in game and then will ban players for using those features.  It's not as though someone found a bizarre and unintended exploit.  These items are MADE to keep people from getting AFK kicked...

The problem is that the game was designed for Korea and the goal was to KEEP PLAYERS in game.  The same way the labor rewards you with a higher regen for being in game.  Threatening bans seems beyond ridiculous for sitting on a bench or sleeping in a bed.  Simply login at any time and you will be flooded with GoldSeller spam... maybe they could ban those guys, or the bots, or the guys with teleport hacks, or the guys that used 3rd party programs to buy all the land...

    Nothing to discuss...

They have found an exploit, they'll ban anyone found to be using the exploit.

    Pretty simple really.

ah. . exhausting.  I don't mind the labour points myself but it certainly seems to be more of a headache than they expected.  I have yet to try the game out since beta since I am waiting for all of this crap to die down.  Likely by then though it will only be bots and gold sellers if they keep this up.

And yet there are tons of people at the combat dummies, whacking away without a care in the world.

So using a bed... that they put in game.. for it's intended use.. is an exploit?

    Hmm...

I mean, it's not like someone is exploiting a mob by standing on said bed and being unhittable.  It's not like said bed is broken and doubling a persons stats.  The bed is being used for exactly what it was intended to be used for.  Sleeping in game.  This is how it is used in every other part of the world.  It is DESIGNED to be used like that.

I really cannot comprehend how a rational person can think that is exploiting and I think the company should be EMBARASSED to even make that claim.  It's really simple:  If they don't want people to sleep in beds then take them out of their game.  Same thing with benches.

I agree, I don't see how this is an exploit when they are being used for their intended purpose. Trions entire handling of AA has been spotty at best. I myself won't play the game because I heard its pretty much totally pay2win.

Being a pessimist is a win-win pattern of thinking. If you're a pessimist (I'll admit that I am!) you're either:

    A. Proven right (if something bad happens)

    or

    B. Pleasantly surprised (if something good happens)

Either way, you can't lose! Try it out sometime!

OK then explain to me why THEY put a bed or bench in game that THEY then INTENTIONALLY made so that you would not be logged out for AFK?  It's not a bug.  It's an INTENTIONAL design by XLGAMES and used all over the world as such.

Honest question.  What DID they create those features for?  AFKing not "as much as you want", but just for AFKing "when you need to make a quick trip to the bathroom" or something?

Sleeping in your house bed doesn't prevent you from being auto DCed.  That's how I log out every night, get in bed and walk away.  I get my labor back from sleeping for 10 minutes then it logs me out when I hit the timer just like normal.  Can you link this CM post?

Correct me if I'm wrong, I never made it past level 10 on this game, but from what I know Labor Points are the only reason (now that server queue times have died down?) anybody would want to AFK.

According to the games Wiki beds are meant to be there so that you can recover Labor Points quicker.

The only thing I see from these banning threads and threats from Trion is that the game probably would've been ran & handled a lot better as a B2P + Sub game without labor points, even if it means you have to spend a few extra months rebalancing features and mechanics, though it's not always about how well the game would've been ran, it's about how much money you can milk from the players, which every company does to a certain point so it's not really anything against Trion.

    Just my thoughts.

Trion really had zero input in how the game was to be run.  It was pretty much XLGames decision all the way.  All they did was implement an interface into the existing systems so that we could make purchases online/in-game.  People really need to get a grip and understand that Trion has literally little input into how the game is run.  As soon as they realize this, the easier it will be to accept that you cannot change very much of anything in the game without XLGames approval.  And so far, they have approved very little.

    [mod edit] ,

[mod edit] , the OP has completely ignored my request to link the CM post which I was unable to find on the AA forums.  Also, it appears to me that his premise that afking in a bed prevents auto-disconnects is completely false unless it is one of the public beds in model homes that they are referring to.  I haven't tried those.

I understand they are doing it to curb the gold seller problem but not being able to chat at all and ask questions is really limiting my new player experience.  I don't read the quest dialog because frankly it's about the worst stuff I have seen since Tera and most of the time I am just running from place to place.  I don't really know what I am supposed to be learning through this apparent tutorial...but its really bleh.

Edit: Just joined a party with another person and found out I can use /say and party chat.  Ok.  Makes it much better knowing this.

Sure, and that's a separate issue that again, Trion wanted to deal with, or they wouldn't of published the game here to begin with.

It's not like XL pulled a fast one now that the game launched and are making them use this model.

It isn't pay2win. It may be pay to play but certainly not to win. I'm a patron starting a second month, there are still people that kill me. I don't really feel like a winner. I just have a nice farm <3

It's not really supposed to be engaging... it's really just a tour of the features in game.  By the time you have acquired your first scarecrow materials, been given your first trade run,  mount, pet, rowboat and glider you will have completed the tutorial part of the quests.  You will have learned how to farm, craft, use mounts, raise mounts, equip mounts, do trade runs, and learned where to go to acquire plans to build houses, ships and gliders.  After that it's purely quests for XP and cheap gear.  Hopefully as you quest you learn about your class abilities... as you encounter PVP, how to counter other classes.  That's pretty much the point of questing.  You can skip it entirely if you like.  Most players could figure everything out on their own in time, or through wiki, but if you don't do the early quests, you won't get any of the items mentioned for free... you would have to purchase and or craft them.

30+ quests are designed to put you in harms way and get you into PVPing... which is what the game is really all about... PVP.

If you dont want people afking, give everyone the same amount of LP regeneration whether they logged on or not.

Rewarding people for time spent online is plain stupidity.

The target audience for this game was Korea, where the majority of players play MMO's in big "internet game rooms" (PC bangs). That means the players are paying by the hour for game access. Those players are not going to pay to AFK in a bed while they sit there watching their character sleep.

The court benches are intended for the jury members who are supposed to be contributing to the trial proceedings. Parking your character there and going AFK for the day is an obvious misuse of the content. It is an exploit, plain and simple. It's absolutely ludicrous to see that courtroom with 95% of the jury flagged as <AWAY> ! People have no shame or honour anymore...

Umm.. the benches have absolutely NOTHING to do with the Jury.  The benches are for spectators to watch the trials.  Sperate and distinct from the 5 jury seats.
