A recent post the CM threatened bans on anyone found to be sitting on benches in court or sleeping in a bed. Apparently these mechanisms (which are built into the game) prevent their autokick for AFK feature.
This threat seems ludicrous to me. They specifically coded these features to KEEP people in game and then will ban players for using those features. It's not as though someone found a bizarre and unintended exploit. These items are MADE to keep people from getting AFK kicked...
The problem is that the game was designed for Korea and the goal was to KEEP PLAYERS in game. The same way the labor rewards you with a higher regen for being in game. Threatening bans seems beyond ridiculous for sitting on a bench or sleeping in a bed. Simply login at any time and you will be flooded with GoldSeller spam... maybe they could ban those guys, or the bots, or the guys with teleport hacks, or the guys that used 3rd party programs to buy all the land...

They didn't create these features for you to afk as much as you want.
So much derp going on in this person's thought process.
While this does just seem to be another "OMFG XL/TRION SO ABSOLUTELY SUCKS LAWLERSKATES" post on the surface, I actually think the OP makes an excellent point.
XL designed a labor system that encourages players to be online more then they would otherwise want to be. Then they also added the game mechanics such as chairs, beds, and combat dummies that negate their very own AFK exploit fighting system. While I personally have no love for exploiters, this is XL's mess to fix. And they should be held responsible by their player base until a proper fix is added to the game.
Just sounds like an over reaction is all. On both sides.
I really doubt that they will carry out the said actions ( if they were really said, since i did not see them myself) And getting all worked up over it before anything happens is overboard as well.
Trrion did bring much of this down on themselves, no matter what happens here though. They did agree to the no touch the code rules before cashing in on the publishing deal after all.
Making it almost impossible to really combat most of the issues the games has has to land right at their feet. it is not like no one knew of the hacks and other issues LONG before they made the deal. So yes i feel for them a bit...but just a bit, it was their choice to do the deal after all.

What a silly thing to cry about when bots and afk'ers are among the biggest problems with the game right now.
Sleeping in your house bed doesn't prevent you from being auto DCed. That's how I log out every night, get in bed and walk away. I get my labor back from sleeping for 10 minutes then it logs me out when I hit the timer just like normal. Can you link this CM post?
I agree, I'd like to see in what context they said this.
I still see large groups of people whacking away on Training Dummies in Acrum's Settlement. I still see people in the Courtroom, seated on the pews, - Away -. I still see people laying in beds (their own or other's), - Away -.
Are we ignoring this, is it officially a non-issue? I'd appreciate an official update, or link, if this has been accepted.
Idling in the game should cause a disconnection from the server after a set period of time. XLGAMES is updating the AFK kick to detect evasion behaviors and disconnect those using them. Until then, using in-game mechanics to avoid the AFK kick is not permitted and could result in a permanent ban if the exploit is used repeatedly.
So once again, context wins out.
@OP: what they said was that the game "should" cause a natural disconnection after a "set period of time". However, certain behaviors (as seen above) bypass this timer. Until they get it fixed, whenever they see someone using these in game mechanics to bypass their timer (which probably means it's a fair amount of time, then they will assume you are permanently afk and kick you.
And they are not "banning you" for using a bed. They are "banning you" for repeatedly using these beds for extended periods of time where you would have normally been kicked.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."

How DARE you interrupt mob mentality with logic and reason.
As far as sleeping in a bed - I sleep in my bed all the time (in my house) and /afk out. I get kicked every time. Maybe it is only certain beds? Or maybe beds you do not own?
I am entitled to my opinions, misspellings, and grammatical errors.

The OP took a lot out of context in order to make it appear worse than it is. The CM never said anything about sleeping in beds to avoid the kick timer. He responded to a post where someone used that as one example although that example was incorrect. Read the original post linked above.

It is used to gain a small amount of labor each day from sleeping in the bed, which takes ... 15 minutes I think?? to kick in... You expect me to look at my sleeping character for 15 minutes ? I will AFK the crap of that sleeping time if I want to... **** off seriously... If I forget I was doing this in game because I went to watch TV or whatever and come back an hour later I better not be banned, that would be REALLY stupid from Trion...
(theorethical argument, I do not use beds in game)

Holy crap people! Sleeping in a bed DOES NOT bypass the afk kick timer!

The same mob that would be demanding links and evidence if it were their favourite game being challenged in this way.
We just have to accept that it's fashionable to hate on AA right now and actual real conversation about it is useless. The hate herd ain't listening.
It's not really supposed to be engaging... it's really just a tour of the features in game. By the time you have acquired your first scarecrow materials, been given your first trade run, mount, pet, rowboat and glider you will have completed the tutorial part of the quests. You will have learned how to farm, craft, use mounts, raise mounts, equip mounts, do trade runs, and learned where to go to acquire plans to build houses, ships and gliders. After that it's purely quests for XP and cheap gear. Hopefully as you quest you learn about your class abilities... as you encounter PVP, how to counter other classes. That's pretty much the point of questing. You can skip it entirely if you like. Most players could figure everything out on their own in time, or through wiki, but if you don't do the early quests, you won't get any of the items mentioned for free... you would have to purchase and or craft them.
30+ quests are designed to put you in harms way and get you into PVPing... which is what the game is really all about... PVP.
I made it to level 14...halfway to 15 but I wasn't really having much fun. I sort of get why people are comparing it to old school games (like EQ and EQ2) since a lot of the mechanics are similar, but so far I am not feeling the magic people have spoken about. I do find the story to be really dull (as I mentioned I am skipping all the dialogue because honestly I can't stand any of it). This is kind of weird for me because I find that I need some sort of engaging story to draw me into these games. Before it wasn't such an issue (when I first started playing MMOs back in the late 90s), but most of these MMOs follow basically the same formula that I need something to draw me in and compel me to play.
I'm by no means saying it's a bad game. In fact, it's much better than I previously anticipated. I'm just not really enjoying it much so far.

I absolutely agree. Sovrath should know better ~ This isn't how you play mmorpg.com.
The labor system is a mess. I understand the incentive to log more hours in the asian market, but for the rest of the world it doesnt work. Just give patron 2880 LP and f2p player 1440 per day and be done with all those anti afk macro.

Overall, I really like the game but............the PVE is below average imo. The story and quests are kind of cheesy and boring. The combat is alright but nothing exciting. The instances are fairly dull. What makes the game fun to me is the crafting, gardening, farming, making gold, etc and the PvP rivalries and stories developed between guilds and factions. If you want a very good PVE story game then I would suggest TESO. The combat, quests, and instances are better but there isn't really much to do besides fight and quest.
The good thing though is that you really don't have to quest much if you don't want to. I have one toon at 50 through mainly questing and another at 43 that hasn't done a quest since level 14. Leveled the second one through crafting.

Not as off topic as you'd think. This current issue comes directly from the imposed labor system that is in place to control crafting. The same crafting that is mostly start a project and then fuck off for a few hours. AFKing in this game seems to be almost an intended feature. Combined with the lackluster hand holding questing and completely unintersting lore, not to mention the rock-paper-scissors pvp, this game seems to be going out of its way to make the player feel continually absent.
The forums are already filled with 100s of threads about people being banned for the most insane reasons. One of the few friends I have that decided to play the American version instead of playing the Japanese version with most of the guild got banned the other day.
He spent an entire day farming potato's and the next 2 days doing trade runs. Our guild uses Vent, most of us rarely ever take part in game chat because we talk with each other. Even when no one is logged into the game we are playing, there are other chat channels of people playing other games. So, of course, he was chatting with people in other games during the mind numbing tasks he was doing.
Potato's take 10 minutes, so he was being flagged AFK 6x an hour for the 4-5 hours he was doing it. On the trade runs he had 4 carriage rides to get there, 3 of them long enough to get AFK flagged and he was doing 10 runs each day. So, he went AFK a LOT over those 3 days.
His ban states that he went well over the normal amount of flags and must be using an automated system to remain in game. Its been 2 full days and has heard nothing from Trion about being unbanned.
I am so glad that GameOn is not knee-jerk reactionary...but then, there isn't a botting problem in the Japanese version but I can say this, they don't ban people for going AFK if they are farming or doing trade runs.
"People who tell you youre awesome are useless. No, dangerous.
They are worse than useless because you want to believe them. They will defend you against critiques that are valid. They will seduce you into believing you are done learning, or into thinking that your work is better than it actually is." ~Raph Koster http://www.raphkoster.com/2013/10/14/on-getting-criticism/
They have found an exploit, they'll ban anyone found to be using the exploit.
Pretty simple really.
They did not find an exploit. The feature of these items was designed by the developer XL Games to provide this feature. It has been in use in RU and KR versions. What they found is a feature that Trion does not like and hinders functionality in the NA and EU version of the game.
To threaten banning over a feature in the game is stupid! Get XL Games to let them change the coding for it.
Anytime you encourage people to stay logged in for a benefit in this case labor points is going to create a situation where people will try to stay logged on even when they are asleep irl. Then you try to monitor this situation and end up banning people who are legitimately going about doing their thing. The problem here is the labor points and its link to being online to generate more.

I did say "don't have to quest much" didn't I? Or did you read that as "don't have to quest at all"? You can buy all gilda items off the AH if you want to. You have options.
ANYTHING you do repeatedly for long periods of time gets boring after a while even when it was loads of fun to begin with. So your trade run comment is kind of a "no shit Sherlock" comment. Luckily, trade runs aren't the only way to make money.
I played for a while, mostly it feels like a traditional korean grinder. I don't know what the big hype is, there's nothing particularly special about this title.. unless we're talking 10 years ago, then maybe it would have been ground-breaking and innovative..

I'll just repost this here since many can't be bothered to read the entire thread and see that the OP was mistaken in some of his facts.
Actually...the OP was correct as the ending states.
The item was created this way. This is just more Trion being the amateurs they are. Not even communicating these radical changes with the players.

How DARE you interrupt mob mentality with logic and reason.
Go to your room and think about what you've done.
The jury sitting is a known exploitable issue.
Edit: Sorry to go off-topic to the OP.
I absolutely agree. Sovrath should know better ~ This isn't how you play mmorpg.com.

Don't forget... you HAVE TO QUEST for Gilda. There is no way around it unless you don't want to easily buy housing, boats, etc. guess if you wanted to you can earn gold and pay the large fee to purchase in the AH, but other than that you are doing mindless, monotonous quest grinding to get the Gilda.... even trade runs get boring after a week.
I'll just repost this here since many can't be bothered to read the entire thread and see that the OP was mistaken in some of his facts.
Oh well!
