Of course it's a paywall. The majority of the forums cannot be accessed to read, let alone post, unless you have paid money to CIG. Whether it's granted via a pledge or by a $5 spend is irrelevant, you cannot acces it until you have paid - the very definition of a paywall.
You keep sucking it up mate, it amazes me that people such as yourself somehow justify these money grubbing practices with their lame excuses, but then what can one expect from people that hand over hundreds if not thousands of dollars for in-game assets.
My cinema has a paywall too. They fucking expect me to pay to see the films they show damn money grabbing rip off if you ask me!!!
Oh and do NOT get me started on the local gym. they have even installed the gym behind glass windows just to piss me off so I can see the gym equipment but not actually use them!!!
Petrol for my car...another paywall!.
I see paywalls everywhere, why the fuck will no one let me do stuff for free!!!!!!!!
Happy Friday.
Look up the definition of a paywall before you try and point out the stupidity of a comment with stupid remarks. Seems like only one person was making stupid remarks and it wasn't @rpmcmurphy
Paywall....
As in something you pay to gain access to.
what did I miss?
That gas for your car or going to the movies isn't a paywall and that I'm pointing out the hilarity in you saying in a different comment how you like to take the piss out of stupid comments when yours deserves the same treatment
Yeah yeah a paywall is used for Internet stuff but the point I was trying to make was the "oh my God I have to pay for stuff and not get it for free" hence my comments. Sorry you took it so literally and didn't actually get the point I was making.

Well, that's debatable. @rpmcmurphy did say that a gym was a laughable or "silly" example of a paywall, but it's actually a pretty damn good example if we're willing to expand that definition outside of the Internet, which doesn't really seem "silly" to me. Actually, it's kind of a stupid statement to say that a gym is a "silly" example. Isn't it?
Point made, there is an equal amount of stupidity in this argument! Good job everyone! We can all go home now! Alright! Let's wrap up this topic for the week. Everyone come up with some interesting and fresh bait topics for next week!

Well the point I was making was that people complaining that they can't see stuff behind a paywall....is like complaining about having to buy a ticket at the cinema, paying a sub for the gym or paying for fuel to use a car.
I.E. People complaining about not getting stuff that others have to pay to get access to.
And it is hard to compare a paywall to anything seeing as it only applies to the Internet so I made a leap and assumed people would understand the connection I was making rather then pointing out the literal failure of comparison.

I said it's a silly example because comparing the two IS silly. As I alluded to further on, gyms are a paid for service 99% of the time, websites are free 99% of the time - so they are polar opposites when being used as a comparison. If people were comparing how long a journey takes in various cars it would be silly to throw a jet into the mix and claim that because jets can go from A to B they are technically correct.

Ok, I see what you're saying. Yes, I agree, 99% of websites are free. However, a paywall specifically refers to a paid for service. I think that was the debate that was going on. Actually, I think I might have even said previously that if you're saying you don't like that model, then that's cool. I also mentioned previously how these arguments are very circular. So if you're saying that you don't like paywalls, ok. Cool. However, that doesn't mean they're evil incarnate because of said implementation. It's a model of monetization and any company will monetize people however they can. If Wal-Mart could make people pay to enter their store, they would. In fact, Sam's Club did that, right?
Now, if we're comparing two paywalls, a gym is technically a brick and mortar paywall. I mean I brought up other examples of paywalls specific to the Internet and you seemed to have a problem with those too. So are you saying you don't like paywalls or are you arguing something else? I don't even know what you're arguing anymore. I threw out the Pantheon website as an example Is that not a "car"? Or are you just saying that you aren't really a fan of using cars to get from point A to B?
Because the discussion got spun. No one said, "I don't like paywalls". Somehow it had to become this so "someone" could be correct in his argument.
The issue was, "why do you link things we can't click unless we paid 20 dollars a month to subscribe to a game development". People tried to argue he didn't, or it's always like that or some.. something.

Whether I like paywalls or not is irrelevant, that is not part of this discussion. Why are you consistently trying to make this about me and my likes/dislikes? They play no part in this. Confirming that part of the CIG forums is behind a paywall is the only relevant point here. How I feel about it does not matter.
Anyhow, a paywall does not refer to a paid for service. It refers to a block that is put in place to stop people viewing content unless it is paid for. Virtually every definition of a paywall is along the lines of;
1. a system in which access to all or part of a website is restricted to paid subscribers:
Some newspapers have put their content behind a paywall.
2. the part of a website that can be accessed only by paid subscribers.
I have a problem with your claims because they are idiotic, to claim a gym is a brick and mortar paywall is to use the term in the most loose interpretation possible and has of no relevancy in this context hence the cars and jet example above.

But I thought this was the most open development ever? Why stick things behind a paywall if it's not open? I can understand limiting posting to backers only to keep the board from being overrun by spammers but the hard paywall where only backers can see certain forums and only subs get other content

I also must have misunderstood open development to mean the development is open to everybody and not just the people who pay money, cause that sounds like development behind closed doors

Youre right, I did admit that CIG has a forum behind a paywall, but the question was why the fuc do you care? If you're looking looking for relevant examples of paywalls it could be anything from a porn site to an online newspaper to a fucking gym forum membership. This model has existed for like a decade!!!! So why... The fuck..... Does it matter???? That's the question. Why are you blowing it up into something massive when it's old fucking news? Again, what's idiotic is that you're complaining about a fucking paywall on a forum like that's the biggest issue at hand. So who's being idiotic?
Because the discussion got spun. No one said, "I don't like paywalls". Somehow it had to become this so "someone" could be correct in his argument.

And as I have already told you, whether I care or not is irrelevant. I have made that clear a number of times.
All I was doing was confirming a post that asked about whether areas of the forums could only be viewed if you have paid money to CIG. It is largely you but also some of your buddies that seem to care and keep trying to make this something more than it is, using weak, misleading comparisons which I have every right to disagree with.
Get your head checked man, I am not blowing this up at all, it is you that is blowing this molehill into a mountain - I am responding to you, I am not initiating this conversation. You are the one that's demanding stuff here, the one looking for answers and explanations, that's all coming from your end.
Why does it matter? The question should be, why do you have to argue about every little thing said about the game? If it is not a positive comment you guys jump all over it.

I agree get a grip!
OMFG the irony!
You could delete just one little word and all focus would be on you and your ilk.

The issue was, "why do you link things we can't click unless we paid 20 dollars a month to subscribe to a game development". People tried to argue he didn't, or it's always like that or some.. something.
Look, you can click this link.

and this link does nothing for you.

Why? Because it's in a part of the forum only accessible by people who pay money each month to subscribe to a video game development.
That's the whole argument. I know, because I said it. Anything else is nonsense.
Whether I like paywalls or not is irrelevant, that is not part of this discussion. Why are you consistently trying to make this about me and my likes/dislikes? They play no part in this. Confirming that part of the CIG forums is behind a paywall is the only relevant point here. How I feel about it does not matter.
Anyhow, a paywall does not refer to a paid for service. It refers to a block that is put in place to stop people viewing content unless it is paid for. Virtually every definition of a paywall is along the lines of;
I have a problem with your claims because they are idiotic, to claim a gym is a brick and mortar paywall is to use the term in the most loose interpretation possible and has of no relevancy in this context hence the cars and jet example above.

I know! I admitted it was a paywall. Question is, and maybe you can answer since you originally formed the question, why do we give a fuck?
