The Vanguard is a beauty and thanks Erillion, CIG release way too much videos for me to watch everything and find the stuff I'm interested in.

Polaris Corvette Q&A Session Part 1

    https://robertsspaceindustries.com/comm-link/transmission/15559-RSI-Polaris-Q-A-Part-1

"Does the Polaris come with a snub craft already? Can you provide a list of ships the Polaris can fit in its hold? What is the biggest ship that can fit? Is it possible to fit two smaller ships like Merlins?

The Polaris uses torpedoes. Can you tell us how torpedo combat will work? How will we use torpedoes in Star Citizen?

How long is it? The presale page had it listed at 155m as does the brochure, but the stats page has it listed at 130m.

What types of ships do you intend the Polaris to be strong against? What should it be weakest against?

Do you envision the Polaris to have any roles or uses outside of combat?

How viable will it be to run a Polaris solo or with AI crew?

Can the Polaris land like the Idris? If so, is it capable of carrying and deploying a rover?

Why are there so many crew positions? What is there to do on the Polaris when you’re not the person flying it?

The shields listed for the Idris and Javelin read “Capital” while the shields for the Polaris read “Large.” Can you explain this difference, and why the Polaris has large instead of capital shields?

Can we land in the hanger without raising the platform, and vice versa? When landing on the hanger platform, will a pilot have match the Polaris’ current speed in order to not be crushed? Will it be possible to take off while the ship is moving?"

I do like what finally CR clarified about the big crew ships; the performance of AI Crew has always been a wondering. NPC Crew to be there, but player crew being obviously able to outperform AI.

That is very cool because on the competitive layer of things it will motivate people to look on hiring player crews; cooperative play FTW.

To be honest here guys, that is all Roberts does is talk with no real action behind his words. They have videos every week yet nothing really showing how much of game is developed and how much longer a wait there could be before any released game.

I really have to give it to you guys that still have hope there is something that will get released years from now. Just with the mining they are talking about seems not even close to being developed yet which clearly could be 2 or 3 years down the road along with adding planets. They are going to need a bigger funding strategy if they plan on going 2 to 4 more years. Clearly they are going to need a lot more time!
Me seems you only see some of the videos and ignore

    * in depth articles in Jump Point magazine
    * monthly detailed studio reports
    * thousands of detailed dev answers on the forums
    * Around 900 detailed answers by CR himself (and there is a search engine for those answers)
    * Weekly dev streams
    * VERY detailed WIKIs and ship stat/status summaries

Sure, no one can watch and read everything. But there is A LOT of information out there for people that want to follow development en detail.

And if you DO follow the development, you see that they ARE making progress and they ARE overcoming many obstacles along the way.

Time is what most backers DO want to grant to CIG. The prevalent opinion on the forums is:  Take as much time as you need to create a TRUELY GREAT end result. Do not push out a half assed compromise game for the sake of reaching an artifical release date.

    I agree.

That is why I participate in the Alpha testing and do report such errors. Eventually those bugs will be fixed. MANY MANY errors HAVE already been fixed.  Thats the purpose of an Alpha test.

Would i like it to go faster ? Yes.

Would i like to cut corners and settle for lesser quality to speed up the process. No.

Yet even in current alpha which a few months back was still called Pre-alpha, you still fall go through walls ect ect. I would really like to see something more tangible that we can all really call a game. I know it would make me feel a lot better.
People fall through terrain and walk through walls in many existing (launched) games that are on sale. Successful, highly lauded games  (e.g. Witcher 3). That is nothing special and all the more reason to help in eliminating such bugs by reporting them.

It is indeed no big deal, in fact it's one of the most common issues with physics (overall collisions) you'll find on alpha/beta and occasionally released games.

When Ark survival released, fall through terrain was a constant; or clipping inside a rock and then unable to move, relog wouldn't fix anything and it was a silly thing. Today while much improved it still happens, yet the game settles physics much better. (then you have AI also clipping / attacking through walls, ongoing issues)

On many other games in development, the existence of "Suicide / Un-Stuck" buttons / commands is one alternative to deal with the issue until issues like that are polished through. This are those kinds of issues that will improve over time, until they become rare events.

Well the way i see it, they boost of having 300+ people working on the game. Yet the same bugs are present in every new build. Either they are very incompetent or something else is going on.
As they already explained this, it's a matter of competence fix the issues properly over bandage them; this on the specific case of collisions depends on technology that is still being integrated into the game (Items 2.0); that groundwork impacts physics so while it's not fully implemented all they could do is waste time bandaging pieces of code that is being replaced; hence why you don't see progress on this area.

Then you say here they have already explained this. Actually they keep saying the same thing with every new build they put up. Again that is exactly the problem Robert's has with a lot of us backers that just want more movement into fixing and getting more into the game than what they have over the years. At pace they are going it could actually be a 2025 release and triple over what they have already been given to make the games.
Do not put the cart in front of the horses it's pretty much that. It would be like "Let's do a large-scale map before we have any 64bit tech working."

I hear some calling "omg physics are broken" (and they certainly are buggy) but netcode alone can cause the issues you talked about; you running around inside a ship if you hit a lag spike that has the game "predict" the player as being beyond the local grid boundary before collision detection is processed, and suddenly they're out of the ship. Same can happen on normal buildings as they all have physics grids. Just one example of it.

If the tech that is taking longer to come online is blocking progress on one or several parts of the game you really can't do much until that blocker is gone. Or if you have parts of code that are placeholders waiting for final code; if the placeholder code is buggy I don't think it's expected to spend a lot of time on it over minimal maintenance. It ends as a matter of time rather than being the developers incapable of doing it.

Polaris Corvette Q&A Session Part 2

    https://robertsspaceindustries.com/comm-link/transmission/15564-RSI-Polaris-Q-A-Part-2

If I wanted to use the Polaris to haul cargo, can I use the hangar bay for that? What about swapping out the torpedoes for additional cargo space? If so, how much cargo do you anticipate can fit using all the space available to me?

The torpedo bay is non-modular, and will not be replaceable, as the ships main purpose is to bring firepower. Strictly speaking, you can put whatever you want inside the hangar bay as long as you can make it fit, but the issue you may run into is the lack of cargo plates, like the ones found in the cargo hold, that allow you to attach your haul to the ship. You may find that cargo floating away when the hangar doors open in zero G. While we may investigate after-market options to prevent this from happening in the future, there are no plans to do so at this time.

The other two capital-class ships like the Idris and the Javelin come with an Argo. Will the Polaris also come with an Argo?

There are no plans to include an Argo at present.

What do you mean when you refer to the Polaris as being “versatile?”

The Polaris will be versatile in the way you will be able to use it for things such as Strike Missions, Search and Rescue, and general patrol. But in addition to this, Cargo facilities will allow movement of haulage and the hangar essentially will allow you to carry a range of different smaller ships to areas outside of their usual reach.

Since the Polaris is intended to be a “self-sustaining combat platform” and “capable of extended deployment without resupply” does it have a medical facility or Captain’s quarters?

I can confirm that both a captains quarters (and secondary quarters for the fighter pilot or second in command) and also a small medical bay are indeed present on the Polaris. In addition to this, the Polaris has capacity for a large stockpile of 24 Torpedoes, as well as another 4 ready loaded for launching.

What makes the Polaris more than, “just a better Retaliator?”

The ability to have another ship in its hangar is the obvious one, plus support for a whole crew. Along with the ability to carry cargo without the need of a module, essentially meaning you do not lose any existing features for it. Other than the engineering post of the Retaliator, it only supports the pilot and a few gunners, the Polaris can let a whole strike team work together at maximum efficiency. Generally speaking, it fills a similar role, but on a much larger scale, and carries with it the presence of a capital ship as well as extra facilities that support the diverse skill-set of its crew which goes beyond piloting, gunnery, and the firing of torpedoes. The cargo hold can be used for mission-related supplies such as spacesuits, ammunition, repair supplies, medical equipment, and other things that make a sustained, more self-sufficient deployment possible without compromising its offensive capability, as well as prepare the Polaris for a broader range of contingencies than only torpedo delivery.

How modular is the ship? Can the torpedo, hangar, and cargo bays be replaced? If so, with what?

There are no plans for these large, internal spaces to be modular. We expect the Polaris to have the same customization options found in most ships utilizing the component system.

What can you tell us about the cockpit view? It appears to be obstructed in much the same manner as the Constellation. What is the reasoning for this?

The Cockpit glass is essentially a callback to other RSI ships, basically a signature style. While the struts are present, the overall size of the glass coverage will allow great wide angle views for the bridge and turret crews.

Does the Polaris carry any fixed weaponry? There is conflicting data between the ship page, the matrix, and the brochure about how many turrets are manned and unmanned, fixed hardpoints, etc.

The current planned weaponry loadout for the Polaris is 4x S10 torpedo launch tubes, 6x Manned Turrets, 1x Remote Operated Turret on the Nose (controlled from the bridge) and 1x Automated Lower Rear turret. Apologies for any confusion, if there are discrepancies on the site we will adjust them.

Could we fully repair and refill any ship that fits inside the hangar bay?

Refill and restocking will be an option, and some degree of repair is possible; the hangar has enough room for technicians and repairmen to walk around the ship and use portable repair tools and onboard supplies to repair damage to a greater degree than a lone mechanic on location in the field, but it’s not quite the same as a Crucible’s fully equipped workshop. You should be able to perform patch jobs and repairs, but if the ship comes back really wrecked, you’ll want a find a proper repair bay or Crucible for a full repair.

Will Polaris have any other rooms not shown on layout?

Rooms not listed in the brochure include an armoury, med bay, brig, Captains Quarters and secondary quarters for the fighter pilot or second in command.
