Considering that a few thousand people join Star Citizen every week for years now ... mostly based on word of mouth ... I would say ... yes.
Personally I do have fun. A few dozens Star Citizen fans/backers I personally know have fun too.
Current number of Star Citizens: 1,737,175 From past experience and developer answers about half of that are paying crowdfunding backers, most of the other half of it are interested fans that check it out during Free Fly Weeks and a small number are vocal critics (most of them not even playing the game).

Which part of it do you play and enjoy? The racing mod? the fps? the space station part? I'm genuinely curious cos I have friends who own the demo and their feedback was not really positive, to say the least. I also watched several videos of "gameplay" and it looked awfully lacking in any sort of content. So please tell me about your own experience.
I enjoy every part where I meet other people and make my own game. I have met many great players that way. So its not such much which module I play ... its the interaction with members of the community that i enjoy especially. It also has the added benefit that one does make ones own content - being it buggy crashcar racing or competitive (read "weapons hot") deep space rescuing of stranded EVA players or anything ....
I can imagine that your friends have encountered bugs and glitches during the testing of this Alpha. Yes, sometimes that can be annoying. I encounter them too. And write a bug report about it and upload it to the Issue Council. It IS a test environment and i try to help making it a better game.
There is now a new fighter craft - favoring guns over armor ("Six-Shooter"). Not my kind of ship - i always preferred the heavy hogs that can take a pounding. But some pilots will love this.
".....“Unable to penetrate the enemy’s defenses, many of our best pilots
were lost at the onset of the Second Tevarin War. So while the
Hurricane was designed to kill, it saved many lives as well.” – Leona Patiga, Casse Aerospace Lead Engineer.
“If you’re looking to blast a target out of the solar system, the
Hurricane gets the job done. Just don’t get caught flying solo.” – Commander Jackson Russell, UEE Navy (Ret.)
Meet the A4A Hurricane, a fighting
spacecraft that packs a deadly punch into a slight fuselage. The
spacecraft compensates for its lack of creature comforts with its
powerful armament, boasting six guns capable of blasting their way
through nearly anything. Hurricane pilots have yet to find an enemy
shield they can’t knock down.
Be warned, this is not a ship for beginners. Mastering her unique
ratio of heavy weapons with little armor requires a particular mix of
marksman and dogfighter. Naval pilots serving with Hurricane squadrons
have fallen in love with the exclusively offensive design; their peers’
constant refrain of ‘are you having a little ship with your guns?’ has
served only to further distinguish the flights of “Six Shooters.”
Standard model Hurricanes currently ship with six KBAR 11-Series Broadsword cannons (two gimbaled on the Size 4 nose hardpoints and four on the Size 3 turret slots) and four FSKI Ignite missiles for the Size 3 missile bay hardpoints.
First blooded against the Tevarin near the end of the Second War,
Anvil resurrected the classic Hurricane in response to increased Vanduul
attacks in the late 29th century. The fighter still serves with
distinction in multiple branches of the UEE military and will become available for the civilian market for 2947....."
This single piece of DLC.costs $175 real earth dollars.
It is not a DLC and you know it.
This costs you nothing more than a basic crowdfunding pledge - recently available at 35 $ - because you can get it in game for in game money after launch.
And as soon as it is available in the Alpha test version, one can try it out (using the REC in game currency for "Arena Commander") - no real world money required.
If someone WANTS, he can OPTIONALLY and VOLUNTARY spend 175 $ NOW to support the crowdfunding campaign. But no one forces you to do that. It is NOT necessary to play the game.
This single piece of DLC.costs $175 real earth dollars.
This single piece of DLC would be $192 for me because of VAT.
Or it costs you nothing more than a basic crowdfunding pledge (which one could get as low as 20 $ once) because you can get it in game for in game money after launch.
And - as I told adamlotus75 before - it is not a DLC ... and you know it too.

Their are many games that do have vehicle-only DLC's and advertise them as such. You could look at it this way: While it's true that all ships on sale can be had in-game with in-game currency (currently) the limited LTI included in these sales can be construed as a DLC not available in-game (currently).
Or he could just be mistaken. Or semantics. Or a troll.
Bartoni's Law definition: As an Internet discussion grows volatile, the probability of a comparison involving Donald Trump approaches 1.

Would you call something that is available for all in the basic game a DLC ?
Would you call the unveiling during game development of a new character class in a fantasy game - that is available for all in the basic game - the presentation of a DLC ?
And Life time insurance (LTI) .... is just like the normal insurance everybody else gets. The only difference is that instead of a small amount of in game currency you do not have to pay that small amount. Being an EVE and Elite Dangerous player .... i do not even feel the amount of cash i have to pay for insurance. Its a negligible amount to me ... I expect it to be the same in Star Citizen.

If I want it now I have to buy it, thus it is DLC. If I want to earn it when the game releases 5 years from now it will probably take 400 hours or something stupid.

You are a joy to converse with my floppy-eared friend!
Honestly though, you should be getting paid for your work here. Good and bad; objective and obfuscating as you are, you are doing a service to this game.
What kind of service you are providing... well it's in the eye of the beholder it seems!

I like the definition of crowdfunding in Wikipedia. Where every backer is seen also as a promoter. As much responsible for the success of a project as the developers working on the code. I see myself as one of those voluntary promoters. Personally I think crowdfunding is much more than one month on Kickstarter or Fig.
Or one can see it as the action of dedicated fans, like you see it in hundreds of other game communities. A labor of love, not doing it for an expected reward. I absolutely salute those fans that keep websites up for games 10+ years old ... like e.g. the Freelancer community. Amazing dedication to be found there.
Out of curiousity, are there any other kickstarter games you have backed?
Several ....
e.g. Everspace Dual Universe Bards Tale IV Battletech System Shock (Updated Version) Descent Wasteland 3 and more....
Those are crowdfunding games on various platforms, not only Kickstarter ... Fig, Indigogo etc. In addition to games I backed several PnP roleplaying projects and general tech projects.
It must be time consuming to promote all of those to the extent that you promote Star Citizen, surely?
I do participate in the discussion of the other games in their respective forums, each under a different forum name. But to a lesser degree than with Star Citizen. There are less asshat trolls from the SA forum spreading lies in the other forums, so there are less false facts to correct.
No, its not time consuming. The wonders of modern smartphones help a lot and unproductive time spend waiting for someone or something are useful times to check the forums and add some posts. It all comes down to time management ... and that is one of the first skills you master as project and quality manager.

So faster than nimble but only a single Size 2 engine means it is
damn slow. All other ships in that size have two Size 2 engines. And
because of that it’s so low nimble that every capital ship can turn
faster right?
Many components of the ship, including the power plant, cooler,
shield, engine, and thrusters are quite small. Could this result in a
opportunity for stealth or at least the possibility of the Hurricane
being difficult to find by scanning compared to other ships of similar
size?
How many Hurricanes will fit in the hangar bays of a capital ship?
Will the Hurricane have eight or ten maneuvering thrusters? Will the Hurricane have one or two primary engines?
What does “Glass Cannon” or “Glass Hammer” mean with regards to the Hurricane?
The Hornet line allows you the modularity to swap the turret out
completely with things like a cargo box, large fixed mount, exploration
equipment, surveillance equipment, tracker equipment, and more. Will
the Hurricane have this modularity?
Can I exchange the manned turret in the Hurricane with a single fixed weapon like with the Hornet?
Will it be possible to have the manned turret controlled by an AI NPC and if so, how would it be penalized since manned turrets already lose one size compared to unmanned ones?
Will we be able to lock the manned turret into forward fire and have it usable by the pilot when no gunner is in the seat?
What are the specific plans to improve manned turret usability?
Currently, they are of no use at all and certainly not superior to pilot
slaved turrets, as was said in Q&A Part I? "
