Keep in mind the guy was a millionaire long before this project started, he has had a long and successful career before this so it's not like a poor game dev struggling for money used this to get rich.

At this point I think his game is such a behemoth and he has taken in so much money that he is under immense pressure to deliver "the greatest game ever made" or something and that's why he keeps adding shit and extending the date until it gets released.
you´re mostly correct except for the "keeps adding features" part. if you look at the stretch goals, there weren´t any features added since 2014

a new ship role here and there and hangar flair reward during 2014 for every backer was not feature creep. No new features were announced in 2015. I have no effing idea how that stupid rumor even came in to existence.
Besides, they didn´t just "think up" funny new goals, the stuff was in CR´s vision all the time and stretch goals were revealed to backers with every new million.

It´s funny that feature creep argument is mostly used on the FPS aspect of the game - fun fact, that feature stretch goal was reached during the ORIGINAL campaign in 2012.
So I´m really sorry but the feature creep talk is just false propaganda by a handful of detractors.

I disagree. Was farming a thing before the Endeavour concept showed up? A bunch of biomes where you can produce crops, depending on how involved it is could mean quite a bit of work.
The passenger ship concept that was shown off a while ago with its silly mini-games that were added just to break up to the boredom.

Both of those seem like prime examples of feature creep.

Both of those seem like prime examples of feature creep.
Even in the early design documents CIG was talking about various non-combat professions. So that is nothing new and certainly not feature creep.  The two professions that were most talked about back then was doctor and mechanic/ship tuner.

so many gonna be dissapointed.. by thinking this is gonna be a mmo..

i forsee alot of raging in the future
Well, officially (according to the FAQ) its not an MMO.

    Have fun

although the context was rather "it´s not a traditional MMO" , talking about point/click ability based with levelling up, etc.
Some devs at the time often tried to avoid the term because it was somehow tied to WoW concept themepark MMOs.
It seems MMO has become a more general term these days.

So Farmer and Card Dealer are professions now? News to me.

Doctors and Mechanics make sense because you could use them on any ship, on the ground or wherever. However a farmer requires a specific ship with a specific module attached, likewise a card dealer requires a specific luxury bus.
It's a large amount of work for such limiting factors. Definitely feature creep.

    so be it.
A bullet point term like "EXPLORATION" needs to be fleshed out, it´s called game systems design.
Same goes for a bullet point like "NON COMBAT ACTIVITIES".

Both were in the game plan since the beginning, otherwise they would have said "This game is all about space combat and nothing else". Which never was the plan.

The same thing bothers me about "goals". . . each goal adds something they need to make / work on.  I just hope they release the "core" (as the plan stands now) and add the other stuff after.    I don't think they even need stretch goals at this point do they?  People are buying ships regardless of what gets unlocked or added to the game.

I can't wait to play this.

Stretch goals ended at 65 million $ (almost 30 million $ ago)

    Very true.

So why do they need more money?

They claimed that the game, and all the stretch goal's, could be made for 65 million, they have 90 million, and still need more?

I wonder how much interest they would have made if they just left the 25m in the bank while only using the money they needed to make the game, some game, not movies, but actual game play they could sell for 50 bucks.  =)

Seriously do I need to give you a crash course in business economics? Why do they need more money, how about running a company with 260+ employees, delivering future content and keeping the servers running until 2030 ?
Why do I never read stupid questions like "Why does EA need more money"?
Yes all studios need more money, they will make more money and they will pay the employees as long as the game stays online. Shocking revelation, huh?

So now we compare a company with no games to one that has money coming in from games they have? They said they could make the game with 65 million, so was that just the game or also the employees they needed to make the game? I always thought economics took the whole into account?

Yes yes, they will need money in the future, to keep the game running and add new content, but why do they need more now, to actually make the game that they claimed could be made for 65 million?

Yes, they have staff to pay, they have a company to run, all of which they should have taken into account when they decided to ask for money, right?

So, they start KS, ask for 500k, hoping to get that, and show that the game is worth investing in, they get over 2 million from KS, decide that they do not need investor's, and keep the "pledges" rolling in through stretch goals and ship sales.

They hit 65 million, decide enough is enough, and add no more stretch goals, so at that point, they have basically said they have all the money they need to complete the project, but they still carry on selling ship's, many of which do not exist, and keep the money rolling in (also, lets not forget the subscription's that some people are already paying).

So, instead of replying with more stupid answer's about keeping the game that is not yet complete, running until 2030, why should anyone pay them more money to finish making the game, when they have more than they claimed to need already?

Funny fact... I need and get new money every month. That's called salary... it helps me being part of our system (whether I approve things in it or not) and buying stuff, spending it on different wares and occasions.

What happens if my salary stops? I know it because I was self employed, not successfulf and broke forsome time. Makes you unhappy, you segregate yourself from the system, feel isolated... so good thing is that my money keeps flowing after I dug me out of that hole.

Tell the big bosses of insurance, car, oil, etc. cc. companies that they have enough money with their millions on their bank account... not some people who work hard, sometimes much too long, under pressure due to ambition and are not that well paid.

Generally Most people in this world work for the upper class... welcome to capitalism... the modern and human way of slavery. When money generates money you should ask yourself who really generates that money. The little man.

Btt... Yes CIG needs more money like any other man, woman, company, etc. to keep things going.

Because they do not plan to stop development in 2017. They want to expand the game beyond all the things mentioned in the current campaign, add a procedurally generated ever expanding universe to the Known SC Universe. Where players can keep exploring and finding new systems. Maybe meet new aliens. They hope to add more "Mission Discs" - not only military campaigns but also series of missions based on other themes like exploration. They want to add player generated content - items, ships, missions, clothing, modules etc. They want to add all kinds of virtual reality options and voice recognition. They want to add more story and cinematics. They want to add atmospheric flight, planetary landing and planetary exploration anywhere. etc etc

All of this will cost money at some point in the future.

I thought once you launch a successful game it brings in even more money because more people can actually play it.   It's supposed to be the largest revenue stream and then you build from there.  The more features a game comes with the more problems have to be fixed.

Star Citizen Backers have passed  the 92  million dollar mark (92,033,369 $)

Number of Star Citizens is currently at  996,791  (up from 993,143 + 3.648)

Noteworthy is all the new info from the Manchester Star Citizen Conference 2015. The Gary Oldman speech, the Squadron 42 "Morrow Tour" intro, the 20 min gameplay multi-player ship Star Citizen 2.0 demo around the planet Crusader in Stanton system (including space and ground battles), the facial animation behind-the-scenes show etc. etc.

Awesome, CIG raised another 2 mil in just a couple of days and it's still climbing like made heading to 93 mil!  We just might hit the 100 mil mark before the end of the year after all.  :)

Not in the case of KS'd games, however, because every single client and "virtual asset" up to this point will generate no FUTURE revenue.

So it is entirely possible, that the "new revenue" after launch might very well stink, as every dollar they have taken in up to now will count against that same customer buying something after launch. (All while having to pay "post-release" development costs.)

Which is the opposite of how traditional MMO sales work.
