The launch day was bad enough but the issues were not totally unexepected. Massive lag was the largest issue I ran into, followed by being DC'd.
Once DC'd you were effectively done for the night due to multi-hour queues to get into the game. The fact you were just in game and got booted made no difference - back of the line for hours.
Today is when it officially sank into worst launch ever in my opinion.
First - a 6 hour maintenance. Then an additional 2 hours of extended maintenance. OK, fine - that gets us to 2pm eastern.
Then - attempts to logon get hung at 90% on the load screen for thousands of people. Eventually you end up on character select screen with "character not found" error message.
Thats been happening for last 3+ hrs now. Many players like myself have not gotten in-game at all today. Others report they were DC'd or hearthing or entering a dungeon etc, got booted, and now they too get character not found.
Issue affects all toons on all realms for an account, so once you enter the twilight zone you are SOL.
Thousands of posts on this to the WOW forums. Nothing but a few "blue" generic responses. Either they don't know whats wrong or they know its bad and can't be easily addressed.
Now we find out there is another extended maintenance tomorrow - Saturday.
Meanwhile - some players who have actually gotten in and been able to play have already hit level 100.
The poor quality of the launch, lack of communication from bliz on the issues after maintenance today etc. add up to tarnish this expac. I only returned to the game, after leaving when the abomination of pandaria came out, because of this new content that I've not been able to play for 2 days now. I'm thinking bliz knows they need to cycle the servers and is silent on this because that would mean kicking everyone out and those lucky enough to have gotten in today would join the crowd of angry people posting to the wow forum, so they will do nothing until the server maint tomorrow.
Pretty pathetic - after 10 years these guys ought to have a better way to launch something and address issues.

In my opinion this is the worst WoW launch yet during a time where blizzard has never been richer. Some people have a 16 hour que only to get a infinite loading screen that results in CHARACTER NOT FOUND for the next couple hours then the entire world is lagged with half the quests not able to register you doing them.
I guess for low pop realms it's not so horrible but they've already patched the game 3 times in 1 day, working on 4 which says alot. That's not even considering that the most bugged/broken zone is the very first one. Not looking good so far, seems they've learned nothing from Diablo 3.
No debate this is not a good launch, apparent DDOS aside and lots of players returning there was a fundamental design flaw, first you only got two starting areas, one for each faction so you have all these players converging in one zone, your garrison is also in this starting zone, it's literarily 100 feet from where you land in the zone and it's the first quest to establish this garrisons. The amount of phasing and concentration of players how could they not see a problem developing on med-high pop servers?
I am on an EU server that has always been high pop but is probably 95% alliance so you can imaging how its been, unless im willing to get up at 3am to play till 6am I cannot play the game and I've decided to wait till Monday as I can only envision more people trying to play over the weekends, my only hope is Blizzard will refund us a few days like they did back in Vanillia.
low pop is bad too also full and in queue and then when you get in its laggy and may get disconnected any time.
your not missing much, former low pop is horrible like high pop realms.
maybe doing the overflow server like guild wars 2????
woudl that help.
The launch has been frustrating, but the content has been really fun. I won't start complaining unless the lag and login issues are still around this time next week.
Other than the lag and log-in issues, this expansion has been great. Can't wait to get home and see what my 10 hour garrison quests produce!
Well just got home from work and decided to try to login on Emerald Dream:

This is bad... Its a mess... Totally unplayable
one more score for f-cked games and zero for gamers

But you and I know once you do get it in the lag will render the game unplayble and you'll just log out.
If you think this is there worse launch ever, you either 1) must be new and never played WoW at vanilla launch or 2) just exaggerate much for the attention.
Calm down. Being DDOS'd is not something they ASKED for.
I read that Blizz is under ddos attacks, resulting in the mess you see. Has affected several other launched lately. =/
So you are saying that the game is so fun that you would rather browse MMORPG and post on comments than actually play it?
Maybe it's a conspiracy???
Because of the boost to 90, we no longer need Chinese leveling services.... We now need Chinese login services.

This has been worse than Archeage's launch by far.
I think the major reason for it, is because they merged servers, but didn't plan for all the people returning. How they didn't forsee this is just too funny.
Exatly what I'm planning on doing. I wanted to hear feedback first on the expansion before jumping in. So far so good, lag/queues/dc's aside. looking forward to playing WOD come Jan.
Blizzard was hit with the largest DDOS attack to date on launch. Some of the issues were out of their control. I don't jump on board with expansion launch hype so I didn't get me feet wet on this one, but it does look like Blizzard has responded and has most of the issues worked out. The queues will be there for a few days.... there are always queues on the higher population servers during expansion launches.
P.S. For those being all up in arms over a few days of lost play time maybe you can join their team and help them fix the issue... that's if you think you have a better knowledge how to handle multi-million player log on servers?
