I played both and was much more involved engrossed and involved with Final Fantasy 14. I never played pvp in either but if that is your interest, I would think other games are much better for pvp.
i have and still play both. Honestly FFXIV is a well polished game, BUT it is extreemly grindy if your not super social. ESO is much more simplistic when it comes to leveling and exploring is quite fun. I personally like ESO's gameplay more seeing how you can only have 6 skills if i remember right. So you need to pick what ones to have equiped for what situation. NOW for dungeons and such FF wins on that, ESO has a lot of nice public dungeons that anyone can go to and such. it even has a few raids but nothing on FF level as of yet. ESO is also a much newer game thus FFXIV will be more polished and offer slightly more. It would be the same as compairing FFXIV to WOW. Would not be a fair compairson if you go by content. It is how content is delivered. And ESO and FF do both very well. I think ESO is offering a free trial not to sure, or FFXIV one of the two. FFXIV is fun but in small doeses due to the grind. ESO is fun solo or in group due to the easier grind and more to explore. Not to mention you can play in first person or 3rd. All in all its a close race,
FFXIV: Good amount of pve content, can be any class at any time granted you must level them seperately.
ESO: Limited skill bar clutter and more thought on builds, Easier to understand for those new to the mmo field.
Both have a VERY indepth crafting system and thus makes crafting relevent. FFXIV has a crazy crafting system it can be overwhelming at times. ESO has a more simplified one where you can pick it up quickly but there are hidden crafting areas that you find while exploring.

Originally posted by Octagon7711 ESO heavily depends on your hardware. If your system is compatible with the game you won't have a problem. If not you may not be able to even log into the game. Did they fix the phasing problem?
mmorpg.com is the only place you will find someone say something about phasing now a days. I think that was 1-2 month after launch issue.
It was still a issue when I quit after my three month sub was up. Happy to hear its been fixed, although this is the first time I have heard that.

Yeah ESO's copy paste dungeons are better than FFXIV's dungeons. Let me know when I should laugh to this.
/facepalm...
Is it really that hard to be objective? ESO got some of the WORST dungeons out there.
MMO actually seem to worsen over time
they're like preschooler versions of old MMO
EQ's dungeons:
This was the most rediculous complaint ever launched at ESO. 130 public dungeons known as delves,. Plus 16 Instanced dungeons all different, and 3 12 man raids. This is what ESO launched with. Yet this is somehow a bad thing?

That is a huge, huge plus for eso, not being able to group properly was pretty unfortunate for an mmo. Also I heard that the bots camping delve bosses are gone which was another downer back when I was subbed. You guys are bringing back that feeling of excitement I had when the game launched. I'll resubb once finished with DAI.
I liked both the FF14 world and the ESO world (in terms of graphics, atmosphere, etc), but somehow FF14 feels like a game I have played before, whereas ESO feels very fresh, and of course the combat system and quests are much more entertaining in ESO as well.

I spent a lot of time on the newb island (kanarthi's roost) and the other area. Only saw....3 bots within a 5 hour span and a GM killed them (literally) then banned them.

Game Bashing 101: Never acknowledge any fact, quote or evidence that undermines your desired narrative.
Of course they're not going to acknowledge the existence of 19 unique dungeons at launch. It refutes their entire argument, and reveals them for the dishonest troll they are.
When the goal is to bash and discredit a game that isn't "their game", any hope of intellectual honesty goes out the window.
Pick the game you prefer the lore for, that will carry you though the games failings. They both have good and bad points.
The people that defend one game over the other have probably never played the one they say is worse. Which is why most players opinions aren't really worth reading, at least the extreme fan boy posters.
Like Final fantasy lore? Try that, prefer Elder scrolls, play that because there is nothing in either that you can't get somewhere else, only the art style and lore are what set them apart in regards to pve.

If you prefer PVP then the choice is very easy.
