No personal attacks whatsoever from my part so the reason for banning must be something developers made up themself.
Thats also why they couldnt give any example of any sort.
Here's a clue for you: if you're going to come here and try to bullshit us about how you never insulted anyone at Steam, maybe use a name that doesn't have "Aragon" in it instead of [B@D]Aragon? Just a suggestion to help you lie more effectively.
"Carebears have took over SotA and Chris the one that design the combat system is the biggest carebear of them all, he is like a little carebear devil sitting on Richard shoulder whispering all the bad design choices. Richard should do himself a huge favor and kick this carebear from the team, he is destroying this game before it is even out. How Starr can accept this carebear version of PvP is above me.
Richard tricked many old UO PvP players to pledge for this WoW clone."
"There is alot of that coming from the fanbois."
"Raph Koster that was the genious behind UO combat system is not arround.
They sure would need him though since it is amateurs doing this one."
"Since developers dont like a certain word i avoid using it and have done so since they set their standard.
So your wrong, i havent insulted anyone after developers set their standard for this forum. My motive is to tell the truth about this game. Fanbois not telling the truth cause they want to trick players to pledge for something it isnt is a really good motivator."
"And while your at it learn to do math cause the support is +55% at the moment which make the difference 10% not 16"
"Youre the one making no sense and seem to have a reading disorder."
"That word is no insult. SotA developers think so but i dont. It's a commonly used word for a certain playtype. But as you can see i accept there rules and call them trammies instead."
Oh so clever, no one could possibly ever figure out that when you say "trammies" you mean carebears... woohoo you win on a technicality...or did you? Your ban should sort of make you wonder...
What's sad is that you think any of that is ban worthy.......
Since when are personal attacks against the developers (or anyone for that matter) not usually ban worthy?

"You are being needlessly confrontational and hostile to other users. You have received more complaints than all other users combined. Consider this your first warning. If we have to ban you again it will be permanent."
And no example whatsoever of this hostility and confrontational behaviour was given as an example. They ban if they dont like what you write.

Just because it's not an insult to you, doesn't mean it isn't for anyone, personally there is absolutely nothing you could say to me that would even bother me, doesn't mean I give myself the right to insult others because you never know how they would take it.

Except the red highlighted bit, assuming that indeed does come from the OP, is a pretty hostile post. Regardless of whether you can understand that or not.
Calling the devs amateurs (whether it's true or not) indicating that they tricked players with a wow clone (which I have yet really to see in the game) and essentially the entire thing is a belittlement of the devs and its players.
And it's under the guise of "telling the truth" which is really just code word for "this is my opinion but it is weightier than anyone else's opinion".
You might not care about the word "fanbois" but it is a word that is meant to be derogatory. forums are not meant to be a test of how thick one's skin is. They are meant to be a discussion, and "yes" a marketing tool for people's games.
If people want to "tell the truth" they can get their own forums and go to town and make up their own rules. Perfectly acceptable.

I'm not surprised. Garriot speaks of this game like it's the best thing to happen to mmorpg. I played it. I don't think it's worth putting money into. I'm sure I'm not the only one.

yes, but (and I'm not taking someone's side on this specific game when I say) fanbois, regardless of the negative connotation are exactly the same "animal in different clothing" as their antithesis (presumedly this op) but they're allowed their full uncensored say, regardless of depth, or often even truth. This is what you get when you censor detractors and give proponents free reign, people who feel disenfranchised and spread their words to other forums.
I have no idea if op is even telling the truth, but I will say if his words were nonsense and were likely to simply pass away as unpopular ranting, easily ignored, they'd likely not have struck the nerve they did. So, I think there's some real issue here, even if it isn't the surface level of censorship.
Dont lie, i ask that you post the personal attacks.
Oh wait you cant cause there is none.
I bet youre one of the fanbois that cant take someone tell the truth about your game and complain to the developers, LOL.

Sometimes "truth" is subjective.
I don't think the issue here is that one side is "bad" and therefore gets banned whereas the other side is "good" and gets to say what they want with impunity.
I do think the issue here is "one individual is aggressive and insulting".
to that end, one could feasibly be the definition of what one person would think is "carebear" or "fanbois" but not be insulting to anyone. But one could also feasibly be that same definition and be just as insulting.
It's all in the verbiage that is being used.
I'm looking through B@DAragon's posts (and I'm going under the assumption that it is the same person as this OP - could be wrong but this OP and B@D Aragon's posts feel very similiar, besides specific words being used) and though there is valid opinion there (whether it's right or wrong) they also seem to be aggressive and dissimissive.
I would bet good money that any person who shares the opposite opinion but used the same argumentative tack, would also be banned.

B@DAragon also happens to be banned from that forum....
The irony is that I mostly agree with his arguments about, especially, the weird-ass combat card system - that just looks like change for the sake of change that improves on nothing... and he makes some good points about different servers with different PVP rulesets...
But insulting the devs and then coming here and pretending he did nothing wrong? That's a different story

I would also agree with those points though in truth I haven't used the card system. I'm not sure what level that would happen.
I did get a message at the start to use the "card" system or "not" and I haven't had any problems as I don't use it (yet?).
Otherwise I've seen the card system from videos and I agree, it's a change "just to have change". Not one part of it looks appealing. I also agree that if they can financially swing it (if that is even a concern) they should allow different rulesets.
but "yeah" this person's posts are aggressive and clearly not designed to be criticism but unless it's "back handed criticism".

My bet is this thread probably won't end well. The OP will likely be outraged to find out that bringing outside forum drama here is usually frowned upon.
What else is going on around here, exactly, that is more substantive or important? I guess I could go screw with the hype meter and make Project Gorgon NUMBER ONE OF ALL TIME. oh, wait...
Forums very often resemble some country with dictatorship, because the people in charge are free to make whatever rules they please.
I don't even bother putting criticism on the secret world forums for example, because so far I've received 2 half year bans for posts that didn't personally attack anybody, they were just more honest and blunt than most people's feedback. Most companies are lagging a 100 years behind on real world rights and freedom.
They purposefully put vague rules like "baiting/trolling" "questioning moderation", "reposting moderated material" (even though i completely removed the part that caused the post to be removed in the first place) and "to discuss funcom's position (wtf is that even supposed to mean), send your feedback to support.funcom.com" or whatever, so that if they really want to ban you, they can always find a reason to. Apparently discussing what a pvp developer who got fired, did wrong, is discussing funcom's position, and any posts on that topic will be removed until the posters stop posting or until they get enough warnings and eventually get banned.
Blunt is a gamer codeword for "total douchebag". Being abrasive and excessively confrontational doesn't make a point more valid. After a while a developer doesn't want to hear someone rage and insult them.
My bet is this thread probably won't end well. The OP will likely be outraged to find out that bringing outside forum drama here is usually frowned upon.
The OP is completely justified to bring forth this discussion simply because of the fact that CENSORSHIP prevents him from doing so through the official channels.
You may disagree with the OP but the fact remains that the SotA folks do not take well to differing opinions.

How would I know? I'm not a moderator. PM Mike B or Amana and ask them that question. Some of you people really don't get it.
yes, maybe, but I am not their funny puppet. I personally care more about what I think and have to say than what they think or say. Are you unusually motivated by what they think and say?
Actually, I care what alot of people here have to say, even the incessant ghost riders and mortal kombat characters. I think I'll listen to them a bit, you go on ahead with mike b. I'll be along shortly.
Sad to see how developers ban players on steam even though they have adapted to the rules demanded.
Dont use the "carebear" word so lets play along. Check i wont and didnt.
So after adapting to the rules demanded by developers i get a message that say "
I'm going with Harafnir on this one.
Oh sure, I could list things that need work (isn't this a pre-alpha anyway?) and will probably get work. Though I still imagine one will have to play this game knowing it's an "indy game" (fine with me).
However, I strongly suspect that if you have to point out the above highlighted bit then I bet there are other "niceties" in your lexicon of criticism.
Many players seem not to know how to actually criticize something and instead their criticisms devolve into rants and attacks.
@OP: your issue is not restraining from using the word "carebear" but not restraining the attitude that is behind it.
Now, if every criticism on their forum is banned then "sure" you might have a point. But if there are negatives and negatives put in a constructive way then maybe the problem really is you?
They didnt gave a example whatsoever and i had as i wrote adapted to the rules.
This is developers banning cause they dont like what you write.
Which words are confusing to you? "needlessly confrontational" OR "hostile"
Also, you are not entitled to examples. Asking for an example is just playing a little game. Don't try to pull that bs.
Kyleran: "Now there's the real trick, learning to accept and enjoy a game for what
it offers rather than pass on what might be a great playing experience
because it lacks a few features you prefer."
John Henry Newman: "A man would do nothing if he waited until he could do it so well that no one could find fault."
FreddyNoNose: "A good game needs no defense; a bad game has no defense." "Easily digested content is just as easily forgotten."
LacedOpium: "So the question that begs to be asked is, if you are not interested in
the game mechanics that define the MMORPG genre, then why are you
playing an MMORPG?"
So now the argument has been delegitimized to the point the words may not have enough value to even be posted in these hallowed pages. Great. I must compliment you on your articulate word smithing, though. At least you're not yelling "Troll Troll Troll" at the top of your lungs. You're certainly a competent rule-lawyer and constructive order-maintainer, whatever it nets you.

No that isn't my argument. My argument is anything that is hostile is "hostile".
hostile: unfriendly; antagonistic
One can argue a point and not be hostile. One can proclaim a game to be full of mistakes and not be hostile.
Name calling is hostile. You might not have any problem with it but that's not the issue. You are not the decider. And if you want to participate then you have to either agree to the rules (whether you like them or not) and play nice or take your toys and go elsewhere.
Telling people they are amateurs isn't going to get you anywhere. Maybe saying that you ": don't feel they have enough experience and therefore you are concerned about the results" might just feel a tad less "attacking". Obviously one can pick words that feel more genuine to the speaker but still not be "hostile".
People dont' like to get attacked. I also find that people are much more open to criticism when the critic is understanding of where they are coming from but offers ideas that might lead to better results in a way that is conversational and not construed as ranting.
And maybe it's you that needs to grow the thicker skin? I mean this is obviously offensive to you and yet your argument comes across as highly defensive and derogatory.
Look at your above post, you immediately construe any idea not congrent to the devs as an insult when it doesn't have to be.
You insult women (and where the heck did that come from?)
and anyone not agreeing with you needs to grow a thicker skin. because in no way could you be wrong.
I could just as easily say to you "grow a thicker skin because it seems that their are people who don't agree with your premise". But that's ridiculous.
In the end it's their forums. And they get to say what they want, moderate as they want, and ban as they want. You want to participate? Play nice or don't play at all.
That goes for all of us. That's just life.

So you think it's some kind of macho tough guy sort of thing?...lol.
It's more about being able to have discussions without having to be subjected to the deranged ravings of lunatics or the abuse from people with personality disorders or those who think decency doesn't apply once the communication is digital.
Every single internet forum has standards--some obviously lower than others, but they're all private places where the host gets to decide what the standards are. You come to my house and you can smoke and I'll grab you an ashtray... but what makes you think you can go to all houses and light one up? Is that some kind of misbegotten idea of what freedom of expression means? Is everyone supposed to "grow some thicker skin" to put up with your smoking?
The only right you have in a private place is to either stay or go - you don't get to whine about changing the rules to suit you, insult the host and demand that they cater to you.
I thought those basic rules of human behavior were pretty fucking obvious... maybe not.

Act like an adult and not a child and no one will have problems with constructive criticism of their game. Key word being constructive. It's unbelievable to me that you can be told that your number of complaints are more then everyone else's combined and think the fault lies somewhere other than yourself. That's honestly bordering sociopathic behavior.
Sociopath
noun, Psychiatry.
1.
a person with a psychopathic personality whose behavior is antisocial, often criminal ,and who lacks a sense of moral responsibility or social conscience.
I do hope you're a kid and not yet mature enough to realize your mistakes, because if you actually are an adult there's no excuse to behave like this.

I said what happened to me here:
http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/post/6518083#6518083
I made the most light-hearted comment on steam (seriously-- purely constructive criticism) and they deliberately deleted my post.
Let the truth be told!
“Microtransactions? In a single player role-playing game? Are you nuts?”

What else is going on around here, exactly, that is more substantive or important? I guess I could go screw with the hype meter and make Project Gorgon NUMBER ONE OF ALL TIME. oh, wait...
The OP is completely justified to bring forth this discussion simply because of the fact that CENSORSHIP prevents him from doing so through the official channels.
You may disagree with the OP but the fact remains that the SotA folks do not take well to differing opinions.
yes, maybe, but I am not their funny puppet.
Which words are confusing to you? "needlessly confrontational" OR "hostile"
Also, you are not entitled to examples. Asking for an example is just playing a little game. Don't try to pull that bs.

Well, I found one differing opinion which I posted the last part above.
but maybe that's an anomaly?
so you are saying that I couldn't go through their forums and not find additional differing opinions where the posters haven't been banned?

So your argument is anything that could possibly be an insult to anybody is ban worthy? We mine as well not post on any forum in that case. There are always delicate flowers to be overly offended at virtually any comment [mod edit]
It's true they are free to over-moderate their forum however they wish just like I'm free to criticize them for it. But let me be the first to tell all of you: Grow some thicker skin or gtfo the internet. Seriously
