I personally feel all these allusions to mental health state of someone with whom you disagree to be offensive...
...but luckily for you I don't report them, because I don't play the same tattle-tale games "forum gamers" play. But then, knowing and adhering to forum gaming local rule sets as you do, you'd nary let such a punishable offense slip, so in any event I'm probably stuck with what tunnel-visioned mods think, because it's likely they simply have no relatives with such afflictions so as to take such issues personally. So I guess it's funny what you say, hahaha, because I saw it on reddit once.
Viva la forum rpg, players, masters of your wordy, yet subtly abject disdain for those who dare resort to 5 letter words that offend your senses, while you cruelly slip over the heads of such inferiors.
It sounds like you were being a dick to people who obviously liked the game and changes, and you got banned for having complaints against you. I don't see how this is a problem. Most forums don't allow for harassment of other users, and would ban almost instantly the second you started being an issue. Even on these forums you can get banned for that kind of stuff, this happens almost every time someone gets banned on a games forums. They come here expecting to get some sort of angry mob when in reality we've seen this a million times before. People just gotta learn to play nice on official forums, no matter how much you hate said game or said changes to the game.
No matter what your opinion is, it's how you word it and present it that matters. If you attack others because their opinions differ, then the host has every right to remove you from the forum.
This obviously doesn't apply to opinions foul and out of the scope of the topic at hand, such as those concerning religion in a video game forum. That's just considered rude and inappropriate.
If you need further help with social etiquette upon the internet I'd love to help.

Forums very often resemble some country with dictatorship, because the people in charge are free to make whatever rules they please.
I don't even bother putting criticism on the secret world forums for example, because so far I've received 2 half year bans for posts that didn't personally attack anybody, they were just more honest and blunt than most people's feedback. Most companies are lagging a 100 years behind on real world rights and freedom.
They purposefully put vague rules like "baiting/trolling" "questioning moderation", "reposting moderated material" (even though i completely removed the part that caused the post to be removed in the first place) and "to discuss funcom's position (wtf is that even supposed to mean), send your feedback to support.funcom.com" or whatever, so that if they really want to ban you, they can always find a reason to. Apparently discussing what a pvp developer who got fired, did wrong, is discussing funcom's position, and any posts on that topic will be removed until the posters stop posting or until they get enough warnings and eventually get banned.
Blunt is a gamer codeword for "total douchebag". Being abrasive and excessively confrontational doesn't make a point more valid. After a while a developer doesn't want to hear someone rage and insult them.
My bet is this thread probably won't end well. The OP will likely be outraged to find out that bringing outside forum drama here is usually frowned upon.
The OP is completely justified to bring forth this discussion simply because of the fact that CENSORSHIP prevents him from doing so through the official channels.
You may disagree with the OP but the fact remains that the SotA folks do not take well to differing opinions.
Actually he's not justified at all. There is no inalienable right to post anything here. I didn't make the rules. I don't care if the thread stays open or if it gets locked and the OP gets banned. I'm just pointing out that I see these nearly always get locked with the reasoning they have nothing to do with an actual productive game discussion and all about arguing senselessly over whether someone is justified in being a douche. See even now we're not actually discussing whether the game is good or bad or some mechanic works well, but whether the OP has some self-entitled right to post whatever he wants however he feels like voicing it.
I dont think anyone posted as much constructive feedback on the card combat system and the locked combat system. Just look through all combat feedback i delivered here at MMORPG.com. Some feedback is mine and some is of course other players feedback. This i believe don't come out well to fanbois or developers and that is the real reason i was banned.
It is abit like money talks and getting to much negative feedback wont give the fanbois that put down thousands of dollars into the game as much property worth and developers wont get as many pledgers.
That is a big piece of why i was banned. It was to much negativity coming from my end and they want to remove it.

Except the red highlighted bit, assuming that indeed does come from the OP, is a pretty hostile post. Regardless of whether you can understand that or not.
Calling the devs amateurs (whether it's true or not) indicating that they tricked players with a wow clone (which I have yet really to see in the game) and essentially the entire thing is a belittlement of the devs and its players.
And it's under the guise of "telling the truth" which is really just code word for "this is my opinion but it is weightier than anyone else's opinion".
You might not care about the word "fanbois" but it is a word that is meant to be derogatory. forums are not meant to be a test of how thick one's skin is. They are meant to be a discussion, and "yes" a marketing tool for people's games.
If people want to "tell the truth" they can get their own forums and go to town and make up their own rules. Perfectly acceptable.
So your argument is anything that could possibly be an insult to anybody is ban worthy? We mine as well not post on any forum in that case. There are always delicate flowers to be overly offended at virtually any comment(usually female).
It's true they are free to over-moderate their forum however they wish just like I'm free to criticize them for it. But let me be the first to tell all of you: Grow some thicker skin or gtfo the internet. Seriously
No that isn't my argument. My argument is anything that is hostile is "hostile".
hostile: unfriendly; antagonistic
One can argue a point and not be hostile. One can proclaim a game to be full of mistakes and not be hostile.
Name calling is hostile. You might not have any problem with it but that's not the issue. You are not the decider. And if you want to participate then you have to either agree to the rules (whether you like them or not) and play nice or take your toys and go elsewhere.
Telling people they are amateurs isn't going to get you anywhere. Maybe saying that you ": don't feel they have enough experience and therefore you are concerned about the results" might just feel a tad less "attacking". Obviously one can pick words that feel more genuine to the speaker but still not be "hostile".
People dont' like to get attacked. I also find that people are much more open to criticism when the critic is understanding of where they are coming from but offers ideas that might lead to better results in a way that is conversational and not construed as ranting.
And maybe it's you that needs to grow the thicker skin? I mean this is obviously offensive to you and yet your argument comes across as highly defensive and derogatory.
Look at your above post, you immediately construe any idea not congrent to the devs as an insult when it doesn't have to be.
You insult women (and where the heck did that come from?)
and anyone not agreeing with you needs to grow a thicker skin. because in no way could you be wrong.
I could just as easily say to you "grow a thicker skin because it seems that their are people who don't agree with your premise". But that's ridiculous.
In the end it's their forums. And they get to say what they want, moderate as they want, and ban as they want. You want to participate? Play nice or don't play at all.
That goes for all of us. That's just life.
So again please inform me and others in what way did i break the developers rules AFTER they set the rules over at steam?
I was banned after i ended using "that" word and instead called them trammies. Is trammies also a word not to be used?
If so where do you think this will stop? What words is ok to use and what words should never be written?
As i see it, SotA steam forum and the original SotA forums is both being over moderated in such an extent that it in itself remove alot of constructive discussion.

So you think it's some kind of macho tough guy sort of thing?...lol.
It's more about being able to have discussions without having to be subjected to the deranged ravings of lunatics or the abuse from people with personality disorders or those who think decency doesn't apply once the communication is digital.
Every single internet forum has standards--some obviously lower than others, but they're all private places where the host gets to decide what the standards are. You come to my house and you can smoke and I'll grab you an ashtray... but what makes you think you can go to all houses and light one up? Is that some kind of misbegotten idea of what freedom of expression means? Is everyone supposed to "grow some thicker skin" to put up with your smoking?
The only right you have in a private place is to either stay or go - you don't get to whine about changing the rules to suit you, insult the host and demand that they cater to you.
I thought those basic rules of human behavior were pretty fucking obvious... maybe not.
Yes thats right but since i followed the rules why did i get banned for posts created before developers set their rules?
Make no sense.
And i have to say i never seen in any other forum so little skin on players as i seen in the SotA forums. Why is some words so hostile when they work perfectly well to describe a playstyle?
Those words have been words for trammies (PvE players) since trammel arrived +10 years ago and now they cant be used cause PvE players get offended by them.
Originally posted by Adjuvant1 No one knows what a trammie is in 2014. They probably thought you were calling them drug addicts.

Developers over at SotA created trammel so they know the words and they were the ones that set the rules both over at SotA forums and on steam.
Loads of players that pledged for SotA are very much used to use these terms for describing PvE players. It's not ment to be used in any disrespectful way, it is common words for PvE players.
'Trammies?' You mean the Trammel change that stopped the hemorrhaging of UO subs and led to their peak subscription period. Yeah, using that as a insult is going to have unintended consequences. Though for me, it is mostly amusement.
When folks start using penultimates like truth, perfection, etc, to talk about some ideal form in gaming, it leads to me discounting their arguments. Everything is a trade off. You may not like what some dev is doing, but you are far better off making a more concrete counter argument. Referencing Trammel as a downside is likely to have the opposite effect than what you'd prefer.

Could you possibly describe what you don't like about your game of choice to your girlfriends parents or your parents? If you cant say it to your parents or future in-laws, you shouldn't say it.
Reason: "You are being needlessly confrontational and hostile to other users. You have received more complaints than all other users combined. Consider this your first warning. If we have to ban you again it will be permanent."
People are arguing the word "carebear" back and forth, and completly missing the important bit in the whole story.
Not the devs, the other forum goers wanted him gone. Second... More than ALL other users combined. Means ALL other users complained about his posts more than all other users complained about all other users posts in that forum. That must be quite a lot of complaints. He was an asshat, plain and simple. Now he is in this forum being an asshat. Just close this down, no need to let his crap spread.

Following the rules developers set up is what counts not the number of complaints from other forum users.
With what you describe as acceptable reason for banning (number of complaints) then there is no forum rules.

Trammel was no downside at all in UO.

And how you could come up with me referencing trammel as a downside is your words that you put into my mouth.

Well it been like this on the SotA forums from day 1.
Worst forum and community i ever encountered and i been active on forums since UO was born.
It feel like a cult of fanbois that infect every thread that have a opposite opinion.
Some of them have pledged for thousands of dollars and it make you wonder if that is the reason they are so protective and have no open mind listening to the more experienced PvP players?
And why do SotA players not interested in PvP jump into every PvP thread with their trammie version of PvP, it's strange since they wont even see the PvP players in their game. They are trying to destroy the fun for the hardcore PvP interested players, thats all.
Originally posted by IridescentJoe just don't mention "carebear" and other things a lot of times and you should be fine...that been said, what SotA is doing in Steam?
I adapted and havent used the carebear word since developers set there rules you could be banned by using it.
So that was no reason for being banned.
They made up their own reason outside their own rules.
Look Argon, they didn't ban you over the use of one word, they looked at your overall posting history on their forums, put considerable weight on other users complaints, and made a decision that letting you post there was not in their best interest.
They don't have to follow any sort of process, procedure, or even be fair about it. They can ban you for any reason at all, and from the way you've presented yourself in this forum in this thread as well as others, I can understand why they banned you.
Not saying I agree with them, but it is there forums and their rules so I respect their decision. I stay away from official forums because of their heavy handed moderation, perhaps you will do the same.

Aye, that seem to be a accurate reason behind developers behaviour.
Originally posted by IridescentJoe just don't mention "carebear" and other things a lot of times and you should be fine...that been said, what SotA is doing in Steam?
What its doing in Steam? Perhaps its a Steam'ing POS?
Anyway, a good developer wouldnt care too much about the language used but the essence of the criticism.
Forum rules are to moderate debate into civilized forms. If everyone is going to take offense at completely ridiculous things like being called a "carebear" for being more PvM oriented than PvP oriented, then constructive debate becomes extinct.
But then again, this is the result of our society in general where Political Correctness is becoming an absolute. Moderation becomes outright censorship and unpopular/critical opinions become a stigma and the person expressing their opinion the target for character assassination.
I understand the concern the OP has about posting anything but soft and safe comments so to not upset the masses. I have had temp. bans on these forums because people complained and all it amounted to was I upset the wrong person with a post about their favorite game. When I challenged the Moderator to read my posts and find a reason to ban me they always ended up lifting the ban (doubt that would happen with SotA forums... team is bent on one direction and doesn't consider player feedback unless it supports that vision).
Fact is people like to complain and most the time they report you as a "Troll" when they have no clue what true "Trolling" is and just got bent over someone expressing negatively about their game or ignorant comment. What I suggest is doing what you are doing and tone it down a bit on that forum, obviously what your expressing is not having a positive impact on their forums.

Means ALL other users complained about his posts more than all other users complained about all other users posts in that forum. That must be quite a lot of complaints. He was an asshat, plain and simple. Now he is in this forum being an asshat. Just close this down, no need to let his crap spread.

It should be thrown with great force"
Following the rules developers set up is what counts not the number of complaints from other forum users.
With what you describe as acceptable reason for banning (number of complaints) then there is no forum rules.
How you can applaud that say alot about you.
Trammel was no downside at all in UO.
Felucca was better after trammel was introduced. You always fought battle ready players.
I adapted and havent used the carebear word since developers set there rules you could be banned by using it.
So that was no reason for being banned.
They made up their own reason outside their own rules.

Sad to see they only want the yes sayers.
