People are sick of Early Access.

This was the response to the question of  "will play SoE's H1Z1"

The resounding answer was NO.

Yes, I'm sure some people are sick of EA programs.

Strangely though, there'll probably be login queues when the EA servers open tomorrow...

Some people are sick of subscription games.

Some people are sick of Cash Shops.

Some people are sick of tab-targeting.

Some people are sick of "action combat".

    Welcome to the human race.

The poll they have says 50/50.

I'm kinda tired of playing games that aren't finished, but others might find it fun I don't know.

I'm a gamer and I play games, not virtual vending machines.

I have no problem with early access. I know what i am getting into.

I am sure some people are sick of everything.

I for one think EA is great and allows to me get in early to test games that i am looking forward to. Its not something you are forced to do.. you can either do it or not they are not holding a gun to your head.

I think the option of being able to get into the game early is a lot better than not having that option at all.. people just need to realise early access is not a finished game and game development takes a very long time.

If you do not want to get involved with the game development then wait until its released its as simple as that. I would also not expect every gamer to want to do this kind of thing anyway so i am not surprised at the poll results so far.

Currently at 400 yes / 447 no; but looking at more recent comments, those who voted "no" also includes:

    • people who don't want to play an open-world PvP game* ("Sorry, am too disgusting carebear for this game"; "once again a 'Zombie survival horror game' is more dependently focused on PVP gameplay than any actual zombie survival")
    • people who have no interest in the subject matter / genre ("Zombie apocalypse games aren't exactly my cup of tea"; "The world is on a Zombie kick. So tired of it all."; "It has zombies, so that is a big NOPE! from me."),
    • people who just hate SOE for whatever reason.

    * Leaving aside that PvE servers are apparently a thing in this game.

    Simply this.

If the OP and the so called people he seems to think he speaks for are unhappy with early access then wait till the game get's fully released.

Seems to me that the OP and co want to tell other people how to spend their own money lol.

I'd have had a pretty lean year game wise in the past twelve months if it wasn't for EA. I've had Landmark, The Repopulation, Archeage, Trove, Elite Dangerous, The Forest and later today H1Z1. In fact, the only game that was finished when I started playing was Middle Earth - Shadow of Mordor.

Unfortunately, it's true, I actually ended up spending ,more on games than in most years but I still prefer it to the old lottery system of whether I could get into testing of a game I was interested in.

Early access is for the 50% who voted yes in the poll, clearly they are willing to pay for it.

AA was my last go for early access,or at least paying for it, going forward I'll wait for launch, and probably then some.

Ironically that was by far the best time to play AA.

    Yes,

I for one am sick of threads like this.

Early access is a good thing, but people need to stop buying products before they get to see them.

Give it a few days, go on Twitch in the mean time and spend an hour or a few watching some intelligent streamer(s) who will play and discuss, observe it yourself make your own opinion (don't be a sheep and just repeat what you hear!) on it and than decide if you want to play or not.

Because if you have compulsive disorder and need to instantly buy everything, than you either have to suck it up or start changing yourself first I'm afraid.

If Early Access was all there was in it I would not mind.  It's VIP items the rest of the community cannot have that irk me.  So I play a drow and read all the Forgotten Realms books.  Obviously if I make a drow char I will want a lizard or spider mount.  But, nooooo, I'll be stuck riding a horse because lizard/spider mounts go to the VIP club.  So you've gimped me a sub / box / cash shop / w/e paying player in favor of these early access people???

Worse, when you've realized your mistake and try to f2p your game or make other adjustments to get back the players you've offended who left and spread the word you suck you then go back on your VIP contract and hand out all mounts to anyone who will pay.  Not that I'm for VIP Early Access content but a deal is a deal is a deal...

    Cya.  Next game plz.

  • Leon1eLeon1e Member UncommonPosts: 791

I disagree. Just less than 6 months ago people were paying 150$ for early access in archeage, which is a free game.

Same thing happens with Star Citizen atm.

    You are definitely wrong.

  • Moguy3Moguy3 Member UncommonPosts: 70
400 some odd people said no but by golly 7,000,000 will be trying to log in!! LOL!!
  • filmoretfilmoret Member EpicPosts: 4,906
No they aren't.  Its a money scheme yes but people will pay 200$ for early access to alpha testing.  That's just how people are.
Are you onto something or just on something?
  • Arkade99Arkade99 Member RarePosts: 538
Because Kickstarter campaigns are so much better, right? At least with Early Access, we get to play the game.
  • flizzerflizzer Member RarePosts: 2,455
People are spending lots of money to buy virtual ships in a game that is still in development.  Sick of early access?   I think not.
  • NanfoodleNanfoodle Member LegendaryPosts: 10,901

This people is not sick of it. EQN will be the next MMO I will drop money on. I will pay for Alpha or Beta testing. I will pre-order, I will buy early access. I dont do this for every MMO, just the ones I really really want. SWToR was the last MMO I did this for and I will do it again.

I have been MMOing for a very long time, fact is people are forgetting how buggy and messed up all MMOs are at launch. Still to date WoW was one of the worst launches I have played. They were handing out free time hand over fist to try and make up for how much down time they had. I think I had almost a month free time. Most MMOs take 6 months after lunch to get things working right.

Yup! It's the feeling of exclusivity, and it will never go away because, as you said it, that's just how people are. I wish I could say it's a fad, but it's been happening since the dawn of beta testing, so it's not going anywhere.

Hypothesis: People are sick of early access just like they stopped pre-ordering stuff.

Checks top sales list on steam:

    #3. #8, #9. Pre-order

    #4, #5, #6. Early access

    #2, #7 & #10 regular title on sale

People aren't sick of early access and they still pre-order games. With Grav at #5 its clear that people will buy new early access games no matter how crappy it looks.

The only issue I see is the huge fallacy the thread's premise is based on.

I am pretty sick of early access. You cannot even get a deal anymore on early access because they rape the first ones to support them then months later will sell the same product for 1/3 of what you got it for. I am done paying people to test their shit for them.

Worst new trend....charging people to alpha test a game that is going to be free to play.

Archeage was the last early acces i payed for a game / mmo.

And prolly the last mmo i played with a focus on sub+ cash shop nikel and dime scam.

Props to people who support it, but i had enough of that shit.

There is nothing wrong with Early Access when it's indicated.

Indie titles who are transparent about what they are trying to deliver would be appropriate. However, SOE doesn't need early access. Or, if they do, then there are bigger problems behind SOE's doors which would be a red flag in itself for paying for EA to their games.

The biggest problems with Early Access is the bait and switch come release and it seems to allow some developers to get lazy.

Some people buy flour, eggs, butter, sugar etc. Some people buy cake mix. Some people buy a cake.

Which is preferable? Depends who you are, doesn't it?
