Agree, but until that happens, it hasn't happened is my point. Why go on and on about it.
Well you see there was this guy and he started a thread, this thread actually, and the thing about it is he keeps on arguing the point and keeping the thread going.
..... and that is why we are going on about it.
Fair point, but wanted to point out actual facts as there are multiple threads going of 100% speculation. Which is fine, not like this site is home to much else, but so much "the sky is falling" despite the sky only having a few clouds is just too funny to me.
If it isn't cancelled, it certainly is going to mutate. For the better? Probably not. Look at EA and Ubi with their recent F2P monetization schemes.... to make profit. Which is what a venture capitalist group does. They slash everything not profitable and sell off anything they CAN make money on.
How much we betting that they'll sell the IP rights?
And for anyone who thinks a BIG MMO can't be cancelled, especially with millions and millions wasted on it... I present Exhibit A: Blizzard's Project Titan.
Agree, but until that happens, it hasn't happened is my point. Why go on and on about it.
I don't understand your point. Is it to cast doubt on all the logic & reason provided in this thread?
I should take you to a post I made well before the layoff announcement:
That's called making an educated prediction, reading between the lines. You should try it some day instead of clinging to the "hard evidence" of Smed's bullshit babble.
Oh I have no problem reading between the lines and I'm aware that things could change drastically at any moment, but all I'm seeing is EQN is cancelled, doomed, watered down, totally destroyed, etc without anything to back it up. Can anyone tell me exactly what difference there will be due to the cuts? What specifically will change do to DG being gone? What did he do for EQN to begin with that had to do with game development and not PR?
Everyone can jump to the most negative conclusion all they want, simply pointing out that there isn't any real foundation to land on.
Logic & reason on these boards = subjective views looking for the worst possible outcome, regardless of anything showing otherwise.
Terry Michaels just made a statement that I added to OP. But "who cares, he's useless and has no influence like all the others that left, DOOM!"...
2. It gets developed but not according to the original design.
3. Development of EQN will continue it exactly as Dave would have done.
Now you tell me, which of these 3 is least likely to happen.
My guess is what we'll see is #2.. an EverQuest Next different then what has been talked about.. Probably something watered down like PS2, and every year or two you buy a "new" version of the game like Call of Duty games.. I just don't see it being created for the PC market anymore, not like they hyped about
Or it could easily also be #3 since none of us know why George was fired. Speculating that he was fired because of his vision of EQN is about as valid as saying he was fired because he drank 2 pints before noon every day.
Actually I think it's pretty clear why they all got fired since this isn't just about Dave. They didn't want to pay them. Pretty clear cut and obvious.
It's not like this is the first time a company has been sold and staff has been laid off.
Yup. It's what I think as well. People are trying to read things into this when it's just as simple as cutting salary and making their products with a lower salary cost.
Whether their products change, continue or are cancelled is a whole different decision.
You just said you don't speculate, yet here you are speculating as to why there were layoffs.
Long time ago I said I would never play another SOE game till smed was gone. I would of felt a lot better about EQN if smed was the one let go. Once I started looking close at what they want EQN to be there was a little hope of me finally going back to a game made by SOE.
Now all I can do is laugh how this company could buy SOE out and allow smed to stay. I do hope EQN gets made and they don't let smed ruin it like he has done to games in the past.
One thing these investment companies do is bring in smart people that are great at their jobs to make sure things get done on time and with great results. I just don't see that with smed still being there let alone the top dog.

According to Omeed on his stream tonight, EQN is the farthest project out from being completed and he said that the devs left (which is basically no one) is not enough to get it done. He doesn't see how without sacrificing significantly the vision of EQN. As for those being kind right now, they don't want to burn bridges while they are looking for new work. They still need to use their former employer as a reference.
So without 3 (at most) individuals that were let go, the entire team that remains is not capable of pushing forward, regardless of funding or anything? Makes sense. I forget that 1 person is responsible for AAA games these days.
Then again this is coming from someone let go (parted ways) a while ago.
His word > word of those still working there or that recently left, because it's negative so it must be true.

Dude it was more than 3 people let go from the EQN team. Believe what you want. That doesn't change reality. IF there was no concern for EQN direction being changed or shut down entirely, they would say that right now. But they're not saying that are they? This isn't about being negative. It's about accepting reality.
edit- for the record he wasn't being negative. In fact he didn't seem very happy about his assessment and said that those left were very talented and good friends of his, as well as the ones that were let go.

Please explain to me why each individual let go was so important and what changes will happen directly relating to them missing from the team. And I meant 3 as in the 3 big names, not total cut. Edit: Although it looks like only 4-5 EQN folks, depending on how you count Georgeson and going by what has been seen.
Did you read what I posted? Check my edit as well. The company that bought them, current devs/leads, and those departed have all said the game is still going to happen. So unless they are all flat out lying or all completely uninformed, I'm assuming the game is still being moved forward. As far as direction changing, unknown, but unkown =/= it's changing in the worst possible way!
Pretty much the point of me pointing out "reality" as in fact was that most are being entirely negative without any source beyond their own opinions which don't know anything in "reality." But but this has happened to this game or I think this or my gut tells me that or .... Sorry that doesn't hold more water then "Game is still happening" - Signed Devs/Owners.

I'd be very surprised if an investment firm continued work on what was essentially a glorified Tech Demo backed by a large hype train created by Dave.
As far as former employees saying nice things ... They'd be kind of stupid to burn bridges after being laid-off. I'd take it with a grain of salt. As Ikeda said, with the brains and heart of the EQ franchise gone, I very much doubt that, even if EQN was to launch, it would resemble anything that was mentioned about it previously.
EQNext was far from anything other than a tech demo and idea at this point. Especially if Landmark was any sort of indicator like they claimed.

So basically don't believe anyone involved in the project because they are all lying and forum goers know the truth because they have no actual proof of any sort. Got it.
What I can't wrap my head around, is which forum goer is correct? Everyone seems to know they are right and exactly what is in store for the company and the games, yet the list of possibilities is long. Is EQN going to have 20 different versions? So confused.

That's a pretty large leap of hyperbole you've made there.
Cancelled with this much money put in? Probably not. Watered down even further? You betcha. Whatever the new-age customers say, "More than 5 minutes to do anything? I'ma bored." RIP EQ. RIP Sony, with no lasting appeal, this game will generate money early on, then fall flat. No longevity. I consider myself an RPG'er and will just stay on the fence. Honestly, Sony should just go back into making really good TV's. They went into video games and let Samsung take the market .. /sigh. Trinitron anyone?

So do I believe some of the devs saying good things or none? Who is kissing ass and who isn't? Do you know what they have behind closed doors or you just speculating based on what you have seen as in what they've let you see? Do you know the CN's intentions or just assume based on completely different circumstances with other companies/products? Does no one else on the team that is probably 50+ people not have any brains/heart or ability to run and produce the product without 1 or a couple figures that you happened to have seen in a video or know their name? I'm lost.

It's called an educated guess. The company has shown its preference for different markets that are not focused on PC MMORPGs. Logic would dictate that the way they have gone about doing their business, both before and after the purchase of SOE would lead one to surmise they aren't really interested in continuing with the more expensive and lower income PC market and re-direct into the console and applet markets they have alluded to in recent comments.

What about the logic that EQN could potentially be a cash cow as the only big upcoming mmorpg with wide appeal and that H1Z1 might take over its genre along with it and PS2 heading to consoles? Why trash all that products, team experience, and go in a completely different direction. Wouldn't if be smarter to buy a company/team that actually has experience with console/applets? CN might not have any experience with mmos, but they just bought a company that has 15+ years and multiple live and upcoming mmos. Almost like they could do something they haven't done before?

Dont worry, it will not be cancelled it will be released as MOBA game on PC , and turn based kingdom building strategy on mobile platforms.
Now...
Do you still care if its not cancelled ?
There was numerous confirmations from people with experience in gaming industry.
Basically using logic : if you fire the whole core team at once, you can not replace them because you just fired people that held all the knowledge about the systems.
Anyone working in hightech firms knows this.
Basically EQN can not be released as the game it was planned. It can be released as something else.
And judging from company that bought them - either mobile game or moba.
Why is it that people who use the same amount of detail to speculate negatively always try to pretend that they're more knowledgeable than the ones who do the same and speculate positively?
It's a mystery, I tell ya...
So does this mean we can use the same evidence to claim EQN is not not cancelled?
Definitely.

Sorry that doesn't hold more water then "Game is still happening" - Signed Devs/Owners.
.....and why would we expect that from an investment firm that has already shown its desire for the console / applet market? When people start throwing around terms like multi-platform, that rarely includes the PC market, let alone games that cater to its unique demands.
Did I say I don't speculate or that I don't bet on wild speculation? I'l leave that with you...

Well maybe you can tell us what the future holds then since you're implying you've got it figured out.

[mod edit]
Did they not say specifically that they were removing these people for the sole reason of re-directing the company? How does that calculate into keeping the status quo?
...... and hand took hand in the golden land
and pigs flew overhead.
For me the EQN is cancelled
Definitely.

No such thing as evidence around here Mister!
"This may hurt a little, but it's something you'll get used to. Relax....."
Well that explains it. You're being educated by the chunk from a PR spin piece you've decide is credible and we, the great unwashed, are not. I stand corrected.
