I'm still hung up on the whole consumption thing. It seems like your idea of consumption is, literally, gorging with complete disregard for any story of "game" that might be placed in front of you. I just want to confirm that's the case. You're talking about doing everything as quickly as possible via the quickest path, regardless of the story? Just grinding dungeons, /following, powerlevelling-type stuff, right? Point A->B.

No, you are just hung up on themepark games, so you are trying to make what I'm saying into something its not.  Playing, as in, reading the quests, and following the linear golden path via my trusty GPS.  Its not rocket science, like I said, it plays out like a mildly interactive saturday morning cartoon.

I know it's not rocket science, I'm just telling you that if you are literally reading all of the quests and playing through the game, you are NOT completing it in 45 hours, or 80 hours even, and I highly doubt that it would be a couple hundred hours, but I'll check how much time I have on my Panda next time I am on.

I completely agree with you that the majority of the content itself is not as challenging as most Easy-level single player games. That probably makes the romp through the game that much more boring. However, I usually get over this by pulling 9, 10, 12 mobs at a time. They definitely have become more diluted as far as difficulty, I will give you that, but there's still a lot of content, which is probably why they scale xp and make things easier. Only then it becomes a yawnfest too.

Right now, I've replaced gaming with learning how to program as a hobby. I seem to enjoy the challenge (something games once used to offer me long ago) and beating it.

That sounds like a much more worth while endeavor compared to wasting time on games.

BTW, what do you program in? C++, Java, Python, R?

I've played Playstation 1 for 3 years straight. And my type of games are all RPG like Final fantasy saga, legend of dragoon (if you still remember that RPG game) and many more. Its been a wonderful years of my life playing that console. And now, new generation of console was launch in the market and it seems I'm having a hard time cooping up with this new games. But as of now, I'm currently addicted with Clash of clans. It gives me the challenge of being patient with everything as well training my skill on being a leader of my clan. What you guys think of Clash of clans and how do you find the game?

As for gaming. I never looked at it as being a "worth while endeavor". I did it simply for fun and to take a break from life. It seems however, business has become the games, and the spirit of games has been tainted.

if you look upon gaming as "simply for fun", as i do .. the concept tainted is irrelevant. I really don't care if a company is making a game to save humanity, or to make a lousy buck, but if it entertains me, i will give it some time.

BTW, programming is fun & can be challenging ... sometimes I do that just to relax (once I program a solver for solving sudoku, just for the heck of it).

Hi new to the site here and just wanted to say as someone who is use to older mmorpgs I completely agree with you, truth be told people who have money or do not hold any value of money dont mind cash shops, allot of us want what we pay for the entire game, now games like tso is not bad since you buy once and pay for vanity items if you want but plenty in the game actually do look good.

Sadly it seems like maybe only wildstar is left as a true subbing mmorpg and not for long from what I read about on this very site.

Tripple a games are finally coming to a crash and people are finally putting a stop to buying them, there is simply no love for these games as far as mmorpgs go it seems funcom is the only ones who actually care about there mmorpgs, as far as single player games go the batman series was made from passion with a few others.

There is, and perhaps always will be EVE, which is still a subscription based MMORPG.

I think eve lacks the elements to be called an mmorpg. If anything I would call it a mixture between a sci-fi shooter, and an RTS.

lol ... Eve is not a MMO. World of Tank is a MMO. This place is getting interesting.

BTW, is Eve "always" going to be around? Didn't CCP lay some people off last year?

They did, interesting where they were laid off though, eh. image

As for the rest, Eve is more an MMO than most other actual MMO's out there, and World of Tanks days are pretty much numbered now it has a much better rival, but thats the thing about MOBA's they tend to have more competition and WOT does have a few flaws that its more recent competitor clearly does not.

Eve may not be around forever, but its not in any danger of disappearing anytime soon, but its a game which the developers do go some lengths to embrace technology as it becomes available, as always, whether a game lives or dies is pretty much in the hands of the consumer, which is as it should be.image
