    https://robertsspaceindustries.com/comm-link/transmission/15065-Anniversary-2015-Livestream

Less than 5 hours until the anniversary livestream.

Internet is abuzz with rumours about some upcoming announcement (fans hope its the mini-PU Alpha 2.0 build).  Other rumours are about an anniversary sale with (maybe) 25 $ pledge packages like last year and some more finished ships (which - yes - can be bought in an anniversary sale). More scenes with Mark Hamill coming up says the grapevine - in game scenes and behind the scenes mo-cap, like with Gary Oldman. If its true, there is a news embargo in place that is lifted in a few hours. So far its only rumours.

    Have fun

    PS:
Confirmed - they offer low cost pledge packages again.
".....we’re offering a limited number of discounted $30 packages each day, first come first serve (1,000 per day.) These packages offer the full Star Citizen experience, including an Aurora starter ship and a copy of the Squadron 42 single player adventure."

The (relevant) internet can be summed up as having many well used gaming forums. In more than one language. I cannot say anything about reddit as I do not use it. I get a lot of my news from german websites.

Some of the more important stuff seems to be missing from the game, especially since CR is bantering around this amazing in depth game.

Landing on planets will be automated and no you cannot explore the planet, only an instance area.

One simple phase when docking a ship through a round instance door, seems pretty weak to me.

Companions to meet and perhaps travel with you in your ship, not even in the plans.

IMO MOST of the game will be automated sequences, the only true real time interaction will be your cockpit, but that just makes the game another Eve online.

The space/sci fi type genre is an amazing genre IF <<<you put the work into making a great game.I have said this before in the past,it is like building 2-3 games  and imo NOBODY can pull that off for maybe another 10-15 years. It takes too much money, too much time and a huge staff.

What space games are doing is just relying on the EASY to make space maps, you need a lot more assets than a few meteor props or star textures to make a game look good and play fun.You need full planets, several races, several forms of technology for each planet/solar system, you need a trade route, crafting,as mentioned you need a CREW and should be able to meet npc's and have them join your crew as well you need a lot of npc AI and races to interact with to give the game a PVE side. There is a lot more than that ,i just touched on some basics.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

  • ErillionErillion Member EpicPosts: 10,329
A lot of the things you mentioned will be in the game.

And there is a nice in depth technical article from a developer of another space game that discusses the new things and the still existing  limitations of the Star Citizen engine.

Is there a summary list of what was announced today or is it just another sale?

Lots of news... with the highlight still upcoming. Yes, there is an anniversary sale too, again with very cheap (30 $) anniversary pledges  (1000 per day for ??? days).  But there are much more other news.

Livestream finished, should be available for watching soon i guess

Finished with news that Alpha 2.0 is live for the first 1000 players starting later today. Those are the 1000 most active from the playtesting feedback forum. More will be added as they go along with playtesting.

Found some interesting tidbit on the dev answer part of the forum.

If you want to start with the best equipment in SC PU, you should try to complete SQ42 on hardest difficulty:

    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

    Hi Mike,

Regarding the "replayability of SQ42" from within the PU, is there the possibility to bring the Sim pod (the in-game item through which we'll be playing Arena Commander and Star Marine) into this as a possible solution?

Perhaps it could be written in lore that due to advances in medical science, it's possible to experience "memory regression" through sim pod software and actually re-experience your campaign years? It might solve the problem of helping players to scratch the itch of replaying SQ42 without having to roll an entirely new character (unless of course they want to ace the campaign and receive the associated rewards that you've mentioned elsewhere in this thread).

Thanks for posting BTW, really excited about the work you guys are doing!

Would we even need to use a 'regression' idea? Just say that we're reliving history!

Anyways, @Mike_CIG, thanks so much for answering questions. Haven't had this much chatting with devs since my time in Alpha Star Trek Online.....

Since you've asked for feedback: I'd like to point out that in regards to 'balancing' S42 rewards vs PU, I'm in agreement with @guntram 's comments on being able to buy any rewards. Going a step further, maybe make the S42 reward more unique than the credit version. Beating S42 Hardmode is still an achievement!

For a simple (probably wrong) example: Credits can buy a white colored Super Hornet. Well, beating S42 hardmode grants you an identical Red with flaming skills Super Hornet. 100% unique and only for those who survive the hardest part of the game.

In addition, I'd like to request/point out that these S42 rewards need to be VISIBLE things. I want someone walking past me to stop and double take because they're seeing my reward and haven't seen anything like that before.

On the opposite end of the spectrum: When I played Star Wars Galaxies, I would always get asked "Hey, how did you get those glasses?" I had bought a collectors edition, and it came with a virtual item: Glasses. These glasses were never released again. And they REALLY made me feel like I was part of a special group. So yeah, I see what you guys mean about needing to balance. Hope that helps!
Yes, absolutely. Some items will likely only be accessible by completing S42 on hardest difficulty and these will act as badges of honour.

Also, I still have my SWG pewter figurine sitting around somewhere :)

"Ask a Dev" Version 3.0 now.

    https://forums.robertsspaceindustries.com/discussion/324300/ask-a-dev-3-0-edition#latest

    "Greetings Citizens!

So, the Ask a Dev has a bit of a storied history on our website, with a number of revamps and iterations over the years that coincided with changes in development process and overall availability.

Starting this week, we're going to revamp the Ask a Dev section once again. This isn't the first time, and likely won't be the last time before everything is said and done, but it's time has most certainly come to take another swing at things.

We're going to be working out the details internally this week, which includes setting up a rotating schedule to get the gold-boxed responses in here from people that you're both familiar with, and some you perhaps haven't heard from before.

The new categories will open up shortly, and they'll be simple to start as we coordinate things on our end to make sure we can fulfill the time away from development necessary to have folks step in here and answer your questions.

Of course, not all questions will be answered, and for a variety of reasons including (but not limited to):
    * The answer not yet being ready to share.
    * The answer still in flux.
    * The answer not yet having been determined.

Every week we'll prune the questions that have been answered, and those that aren't going to be at this time. Also pruned will be posts discussing the answers or questions found here. This is a sub-forum strictly for questions and answers. You are absolutely invited to discuss those questions and answers found here, but do so in other sub-forums relevant to the topic.

If for your question is unanswered (and subsequently pruned) you are welcome to resubmit it at a later time, and we recommend giving special consideration to how clear and concise the question is before resubmitting. It often helps, but please remember, we simply may not be ready to address that question at this point in development. Also consider the tone and demeanor you employ. Overly-confrontational attitudes won't encourage anyone to interact with you. If you have a grievance you hope to address, there are ways to do so with civility and respect. All existing forum rules of conduct still apply.

Any "when" questions will be summarily ignored and pruned. These are the folks in the trenches making the game and their leads. They won't have the dates you're looking for.

    Thanks,

    Jared Huckaby
    Community Manager"

I can find a lot about new ships and other assets in general. But it is very difficult to find answers about gameplay and gamedesign questions in that forum you linked. I doubt that the backers atm are that interested in spaceship nr 83.

A bunch of art assets for sale dont make up a game.

There are plenty of free-fly weeks so that people can try and see for themselves. I suggest they do just that or watch some youtube videos.

How does that answer what the game will be? I want to see a list of features they are working on. Not some techdemo so you can fly around some ship in empty space.

All i can find are little snippets of game, all disconnected and a stupid amount of ships for sale. As if they are first working on details before deciding what features the game will have.

Yes, disconnected snippets of game. All together still not more then some explore and shoot game. Oh and you have chat. Very nice looking , but I don't really care about that if I can't see much game there.

Just a very nice looking shooter is not that interesting for this budget. The flying also seems quite arcady.

Those module descriptions sound very shallow:

"Area 18 is a city on ArcCorp, a planet in the Stanton system and our first interactive planetside environment.
    • Gameplay is focused on individual exploration and social interaction."
So you can walk and talk. Awesome. But how will this later on play a role in the game? Surely there must be some list of actual features for this game? Not crappy details like '
    • Recharging energy weapons.
    • In-game pick-ups including ballistic weapons, ammo and MediPens.
    • Player healing. '
What is the game going to be? How will these modules connect later on? Will Star Citizen be a MMO with character progression? Will there be crafting? Will there be trade? Will there be professions? Will you be able to discover a new planet, settle there, or build your base?

    Yes.

But the engine is still in development.

But it will have everything if you will send them a thousand dollars.

But you'd rather wait for release and pay 50.

Yes what? Yes on all my questions? Huh, from current alpha to that , keeping that level of detail? Ok, see you in the game then, in about 10 years?

It is just so weird to see these highly detailed (but disconnected) techdemo's and not much game. As if development is upside down. Start with the details, and lets fill in features later? How can the people work on the game engine without knowing what features it needs to support? Surely you start with game design first? Where can I find it? There has to be a feature list in detail somewhere.

The feature list is like, a bunch of questions people asked Chris Roberts, and he said, "uh huh", "yeh", "absolutely", "definitely" and "ok" to all of them. Here is an example of how we learn of the future of this project.

Star Citizen has provided me with more entertainment then most games have, hours upon hours of laughs when more ships go on 'sale,' grin upon grin browsing through all Star Citizen threads, constant smiling when reading all posts from defenders and attackers of the game going in endless circles.

Star Citizen is the most entertaining game that hasn't been made, I would almost donate them some money for all they fun these guys have provided me with, almost.

now enough with all the bullcrap and produce a game, EVERYTHING else is just fluff, a distraction. They do not need more money, the do not need more fans, they do not need more sales or exposure, they need more game and that is the only area they are lacking in. Too little, too slow, step it up Roberts, this is not what was suposed to happen.
