I love the gameplay videos, especially then ones from streamers because they either can't or won't edit them. So much to do, so little time. 2016 will go by fast for SC, there is a lot of pressure to release something and that never had a positive impact on the final product, especially one that's in such a poor state.

Yepp, that's exactly the point. From a very rough alpha to a polished Squadron 42 in less than 12 months.

From my own experience with high profile C/C++ projects i can say that this is pretty much impossible because even hiring new people at this point in the project when you need people with experience in the code is not going to speed up development.

They will have to do a lot of sprints to meet the late 2016 deadline and that can be very exhausting for a team especially if you have a split code base and even more so if your code base is split into more than 2 different modules.

I really don't want to be in their scrum masters shoes right now or their perforce admin for that matter. Must be a nightmare for both of them considering the scope of this project.

Wait what? He is now adding "Big Deer Hunter" to Star Citizen? This game is going to be the first game that includes features of every other genre available. Chris is really off his rocker.

Or maybe they are just threatened by "No Man's Sky" and that's why he needed to add Planets, Flora and Fauna. You know, since "No Man's Sky" is actually coming out this year.

Planetary landings and planetary exploration was always planned for Star Citizen in the early design documents. But not for Day 1 Launch of the Persistent Universe (that information comes from talk during the Kickstarter Campaign). It was also one of the reasons for the stretch goal "Research into Procedural Generation".

    https://robertsspaceindustries.com/funding-goals

See 20 M$ Stretch Goal "First person combat on select lawless planets. Don’t just battle on space stations and platforms… take the fight to the ground!" and 41 M$ Stretch Goal "Procedural Generation R&D Team – This stretch goal will allocate funding for Cloud Imperium to develop procedural generation technology for future iterations of Star Citizen. Advanced procedural generation will be necessary for creating entire planets worth of exploration and development content. A special strike team of procedural generation-oriented developers will be assembled to make this technology a reality."

    See also: https://robertsspaceindustries.com/about-the-game/universe
"The Game Doesn’t Stop When you Land

Star Citizen’s world isn’t just flying spacecraft. A fully-featured FPS mode lets you disembark and take the fight to the enemy… or to explore distant worlds, or navigate city streets in search of the perfect upgrade. We’re building a first person universe, not just the space between stars."

So nothing new is being added - they just flesh out their old plans.

When you talk about "Deer Hunter in Space" I assume you refer to this:
".... one of the cool things with the procedural stuff which we’re already working on which is far more than what we showed is having a planet that has Crysis level fidelity of vegetation and details, we’ll have some wildlife and stuff. There will be places to go down and there will be an opportunity to do things like…collecting, mining minerals or hunting alien animals for their skins you can sell somewhere else or taking supplies to a small expedition outpost. ..."

Personally I believe they DO take a close look at what NMS and E:D are doing and compare it with their own plans.

I known, and i am playing it after having backed it early. I do not agree with the "answer to all your needs part".

Star Citizen and E:D currently aim for two different things and styles. E:D offers - literally -  the galaxy and you have to create something yourself. Story is to be discovered through teamwork - and it is not easy (see Unknown Objects engima). While SC goes for a higher fidelity in a smaller universe, with free moving avatars and a cinematic storyline leading up to your own story creation in the PU.  E:D team works incremental, SC team goes for a more integrated approach.

The recent talk about VR and now the player controlled landings are the most interesting stuff I've heard about SC for months. Getting rid of that idiotic head bob and those vomit inducing transitions where you don't have control of your character cannot come soon enough and having "proper" landings (even if it is pipe based) will be much better.

Would prefer to see it in action rather than just hear another Roberts promise though.

I'm the troll here when you are the one posting asinine comments about a game still in the R&D stage for the most part? OK.

FFS let Erillion have just one thread for himself and those that do want this game to succeed without you spouting your inane troll brain farts. We get it, you have an unhealthy obsession with SC and hope that object will fail and die. Could you guys create a "Star Citizen: The Toxic Community" thread and shit all over it there?

Wouldn't work since the toxic community thread would be invaded by the white knights telling everyone how their view is the correct one and then probably start posting about the newest ship sale that's a steal at only a couple hundred dollars!

He's not a lunatic, he's very smart. He knows that SC will never be as valuable and profitable as it is right now. The longer he can keep the game in progress the more money he'll get.
  • ArglebargleArglebargle Member EpicPosts: 3,485

Roberts is not that smart.  Opportunistic, yeah.  Good marketeer?  Yeah.   IF you look at the history of his SC development, he was after a very small sum (relative to today), with moderate goals.  He in no way foresaw this level of desperation among space game fans.  Of course, his great big ego loves all the praise, and his general tendency to overcomplicate has switched into high gear with the increased money.  With no one to put the 'be reasonable' brakes on.   (Maybe Erin?)

However, his Cash-Shop-in-Advance money-printing model won't continue forever.  The point at which the game releases will be a definitive end.  That is, if they don't change their minds.  Still more likely to release in 2019 to my mind.

If you are holding out for the perfect game, the only game you play will be the waiting one.

You are probably correct. I am fascinated by how this game is viewed by different people. How every "10 For the Chairman" is parsed and its content is seen in wildly different ways. It's like people are watching different videos.
