I hope you realize that Derek Smart has pushed a bit too hard in his agenda to defame Chris Roberts, Cloud Imperium Games, and the Star Citizen project. This is probably what CIG was waiting for. I suspect fairly soon we're going to see the shit hit the fan for someone; and it's not anyone at CIG.
You need to actually read CR's response to fully grasp this. If, and I believe when, The Escapist takes up the offer to visit and get a first-hand look at Star Citizen's development; talk with the staff there; and have a real impression of what's going on we're going to see an entirely different article.
I also believe that there is enough public information/evidence for Sandi & CR to level a lawsuit against Derek Smart for doxxing and slander.
Derek's probably done in the gaming industry completely. I suspect he's out of the minimal funds he had for LoD and after what he's done the last few months I doubt anyone will allow the sleazy piece of .... near them if they want to maintain their credibility. Especially investors.

I could say a lot more but all I'll say is ... I told you so! I just hope that my contribution via my posts in this forum against this gem of a fiasco saved a few people from throwing any of their hard earned money at this scam.
That said I will offer this, these people aren't stupid. They will eventually release a game but it will amount to nothing but vaporware when compared to the 80-100 MILLION dollars contributed.

It's very simple. When you sue for defamation the onus is on you to prove (among other things) without a doubt that what was said about you is false. The way you do that is by providing evidence of the truth. Do you think CR really wants to do that?

Indeed. I don't do the backing thing at all even if there is some potential helpfulness about it. I do actually buy games, many in fact, so I feel I do my part to support worthy developers.
I find a lot about the KS biz to be questionable over time and wish there was more investigative journalism done on it.
For ex, it bothers me when a company has a successful campaign, fully funds a game, then turns around and makes 10's of millions of dollars on the game - some of these KS backed games do VERY well for sales above and beyond backer copies. Great for the devs. Then at times these same companies turn around and KS fund their next game too and it's like, erm, shouldn't you be able to fund the development of your own game now and not need to sponge off of community kindness?
It's not like it's preorders and set prices, backers are often contributing goofy amounts of money to games that make hefty profits.
Premium MMORPGs do not feature built-in cheating via cash for gold pay 2 win. PLAY to win or don't play.

Having said that, Derek Smart is asking for an independent forensic accountant (and he wanted to hire them himself) so that records could be made public (everything). That's just absurd for a business to do, especially when Derek Smart's own game could be considered a competitor (even though I personally believe he's out of money and that's the whole point to this nonsense from him).
Plus, backers have already been invited to the studios. Chris Roberts has extended an invitation to The Escapist to visit all four of the CIG studios. This is called transparency. When is enough enough? When CIG is spending all their time trying to please a small base of people who's following someone that I can verify that has been misleading people?

You need to actually read CR's response to fully grasp this. If, and I believe when, The Escapist takes up the offer to visit and get a first-hand look at Star Citizen's development; talk with the staff there; and have a real impression of what's going on we're going to see an entirely different article.
I also believe that there is enough public information/evidence for Sandi & CR to level a lawsuit against Derek Smart for doxxing and slander.
Derek's probably done in the gaming industry completely. I suspect he's out of the minimal funds he had for LoD and after what he's done the last few months I doubt anyone will allow the sleazy piece of .... near them if they want to maintain their credibility. Especially investors.
I could say a lot more but all I'll say is ... I told you so! I just hope that my contribution via my posts in this forum against this gem of a fiasco saved a few people from throwing any of their hard earned money at this scam.
That said I will offer this, these people aren't stupid. They will eventually release a game but it will amount to nothing but vaporware when compared to the 80-100 MILLION dollars contributed.
This whole fiasco lends new meaning to the cliches "a fool and his money are soon parted," and "there is a fool born every minute."
This game probably will never see daylight as advertised, if at all. This whole thing ends in the courts. Roberts will blame the failure on Derek Smart bringing the shit storm out into the open and there will be many sad panda fan boys left in the wake.
I'm afraid to say that in all reality ... you're the one making yourself look stupid by defending the indefensible. The only good thing that can be taken out of any of your posts so far is that you have finally conceded that DS was right. Although you premise it with being only right on "some things."
... and as an FYI regarding why did they the employees go to DS with this info? Well that's an easy one ... because DS has been the man to go on point and bring this scam to light for all to see. If there is anyone to take incriminating info against Chris Roberts and his goons in this matter there is no better perosn than your hated Derek Smart. For if it were not for him ... this whole scam may not have come to light at all.
Yes, because the employees will welcome The Escapist journalists on their tour and while greeted by them and CR, come out and say:
"Hey, you know what, your article was spot on! Chris is a big dbag and this whole thing is a sinking ship!"
Do you really think they will get the truth from current employees and while having the whole entourage of CIG by their side on their headquarters?
I am nor for or against Chris Roberts and CIG. I want a game like this to exist... but at the same time, the bits and pieces of information are stacking against CR and CIG and we are not seeing any game yet nor release dates...

I'll say a couple of things that make me agree with @Hatefull ; If this were the case, where are the court cases? I'm sorry, I'm a HUGE supporter of SC, but if what is being said is true, then my morals take precedence. That being said, these claims are so MASSIVE that if you believe them blindly, then you're just as bad as those who are trying to disclaim them. These are basic human rights violations and they should be dealt with through whichever government agency deals with that in the US. You can't honestly expect me to believe that in a country where someone will sue McDonald's for "making" them fat, someone is going to sit there and take continual abuse? Not 1 person, but 3? Plus, each of their accounts is similar enough that we may as well make the assumption that it's 250 employees who are being abused? You can see where someone might find it hard to believe.

If Derek Smart and now The Escapist magazine are all launching personal attacks, doxing and several counts of libel, in the views of CR, then why nothing is being done to counter that?
Why Chris Roberts say: "Ok Derek, thats enough bashing for today, I will see you in courts suing you for libel (and some other legal stuff I dont know the name) for damages, both personal and my company and employees!"
Why the only rebute that CR does is just writting blog posts on their Star Citizen website?
Again, I am not taking sides here but this is very very strange from someone who is claiming to have all the moral and legal high ground (CR) and not doing anything legal to shut the vocal media and Derek.
And come on, dont give me the excuse he is too busy working on the game to take Derek and that magazine to court over libel... me thinks its because the latter are right in poking into the smoke.

I find a lot about the KS biz to be questionable over time and wish there was more investigative journalism done on it.
For ex, it bothers me when a company has a successful campaign, fully funds a game, then turns around and makes 10's of millions of dollars on the game - some of these KS backed games do VERY well for sales above and beyond backer copies. Great for the devs. Then at times these same companies turn around and KS fund their next game too and it's like, erm, shouldn't you be able to fund the development of your own game now and not need to sponge off of community kindness?
It's not like it's preorders and set prices, backers are often contributing goofy amounts of money to games that make hefty profits.
Premium MMORPGs do not feature built-in cheating via cash for gold pay 2 win. PLAY to win or don't play.
Plus, backers have already been invited to the studios. Chris Roberts has extended an invitation to The Escapist to visit all four of the CIG studios. This is called transparency. When is enough enough? When CIG is spending all their time trying to please a small base of people who's following someone that I can verify that has been misleading people?
