What is it with so called gaming journos blogging posts with zero evidence to back up many of their claims?
I do not see why people can't understand that the people interviewed are going to end up being key witnesses when they take CR to court. Time is only on CR's side before they arrest him, just way to much money involved not to be held responsible for it.
I do not see why people can't understand that they lack the ability to predict the future with absolute certainty and that hearsay and conjecture are not the same as facts and evidence.
The thing is this con artist and crook thinks he is protected by Kickstarter terms. I pretty much can assure you when dealing with embezzlement of this kind of money he will be facing some criminal charges and serious jail time. You can't just steal million upon millions and say oops sorry, there is an accountability and some of these investors could afford to hire some pretty high end lawyers or hitmen for much less than they invested in SC.
And that dear friends is how naysayers kill a 30+ year reputation and a project which is still running based on no facts or experience but rather on pure fear, uncertainty and doubt. Oh and how they get themselves sued for defamation too.
Check my other posts. Not saying that CR hasnt or has done any of these things, but psiic and those like him will make sure this project never sees the light of day.
You misunderstand me, I have money in this.. well I have money in the original kickstarter for the game we were promised that had its money stolen to make a different game. That being said, you are right there is no evidence, but when the people working for the company say there is a looting of the coffers then I sit up and listen. All I am saying is IF he is embezzling as he has been accused kickstarter will NOT be able to protect him. The DA will get involved then they will bring in forensic accountants and make them account for where the money went. If it turns out most of it went into his new Tesla or new house on the beach I can pretty much state he will be going to jail. Kickstarter does not protect against being a crook, it only protects kickstarter for when its users turn out to be crooks.
Completely agree. If there is dodgy accounting, burn him. Just don't do it before the evidence is heard.

I'm being critical of my favorite video game ever. In spite of these flaws.
But my point was that I was agreeing with Bloodaxe. But as far as how difficult to put into an MMO? I really have no idea. There are follower mods that use "Quest Aware" AI and they do a fairly decent job keeping up with you. I wonder how difficult it would be to create a core mechanic based on that that keeps a running tab of your accomplishments that all NPCs can tie into. I'm not a developer so I admit that was coming out of my ARSE.
Within Skyrim it's all a matter of a dialogue tree that branches in different directions based on factors such as whether you've done this, or done that. The same tree also controls statements you hear based variables that track what you heard prior. One quest's dialogue tree(s) can be quite a lot of information as far as tracking goes. It's a very convoluted system TBH. It works and it's easy to script, most of SKyrim is, but that alone was the result of labor, as they made it that way for a reason (modding).
I think the biggest hurdle in adding such to an MMO, would be in how much information is being passed between server and client, and the tracking involved in pin-pointing these factors, simultaneously for x amount of players. I could be wrong though. I've modded skyrim quite a bit, never worked on an MMO.

What are you talking about? O.o
Agreed. Stunning. Talk about rabid.
LOL if you guys have to ask then I guess you haven't been paying attention.
So far guild wars 2 is the only mmo that has dynamic (light) events but as I previously said, when the game launched there was a lot of events hanging or stopping altogether.
Guild Wars 2 dynamic events aren't close to any of the bethesda games tough. Sure, you have npcs that talk and walk during events but no real definitive changes nor any complex and long quests that come close to anything you can find in the single player games.
I've officially requested a refund. I'll gladly purchase it when it is fully released and after reading reviews. Right now however, I don't even want to be associated with the game, Chris Roberts or the SC community as a whole.
The past 6-months have been a disaster for CIG in terms of PR, missed deadlines, excuses and CR blaming everyone but himself. I just read an article where CR states that part of the problem is that a lot of people in the community doesn't understand how long it takes to develop great games. Uh hello, Earth to Chris Roberts... YOU said it would be finished in 2014. YOU said that Star Marine was "days, not weeks or months" away from being released. YOU said that the beta PU would be released by Q4 of 2015. Chris Roberts is the one who didn't understand how long it took to develop games. It is just astounding how much support that weazel is getting from SC fans. This author is right, he has to go. He needs to take his wife with him.
Yes, its astonishing how the SC fans can just hand wave away all the promises Roberts has made about his game, like he never actually said them or they don't mean what they actually mean. I mentioned this before but he probably has a year, likely less, to get something significant out the door and into the hands of players before the bulk of them start to turn on him, at which point things will escalate and start to go south fast. Of course the die hards will stick it out until the end and will go down with the Titanic rather than face the reality at that point.
If and when this goes tits up, we'll see all kinds of accusations from Roberts and the super fans as to why it failed. Everything from Derek Smart to the "haters" to the "hatchet job" articles from the gaming press will be trotted out as the reasons SC failed when the reality is the failure will lie solely at the feet of Chris Roberts and Chris Roberts only. Just watch.
Is a man not entitled to the herp of his derp?
Remember, I live in a world where juggalos and yugioh players are real things.
Ships purchased in the original campaign are not available in DFM while new ones announced much more recently are.
There's been no significant release of content since DFM in what was supposed to be a modular development. (and btw, I personally saw the original timeline in Eric's office in Austin and had multiple conversations with him about where development was going and have spoken with Chris multiple times about it in the past. They are insanely behind where they were supposed to be.)
Multiple people in leadership positions have left the company, and not to go to another project. In fact, are there ANY original team leads left in CIG? I think Ben and Skelton may be the only two from Austin left besides one who's now just consulting.
300 employees means about a $35 million/year budget. That tells us they've spent money at about the rate they've pulled it in. Do we have ~$70-80 million worth of content available? I don't think so, but that's just opinion.
Prove it .... With facts. Not with assumptions and defamation . It is obvious, you are Darek Smart. You stick out like a floater in the pool.

Here is some evidence: 1. They are way past the date Chris said the game would be launched 2. We have no video of gameplay other than a few of the modules 3. Several top people have walked away from the project 4. Several ex-employees that were visually verified have spoken out about wrong doings at the company
Name the due date .. Plenty of game play footage on youtube Name the "top" People Name the ex-employeess names and job titles. ..
LOL of course you want the names of the traitors for talking bad about CR. Which is the exact reason they are being protected. But you guys will never understand that. The top 3 have been answered a number of times but you fanboys refuse to accept it.
Well, sure, but you could have picked anything... instead you chose 2 topics that have been bandied about in the media, suggesting that there really was some credible doubt or that the matter was the subject of question. It tends to leave open the door to... alternative primary school curricula?
Only because like most other political conversations, the devotees of either side adhere to their respective dogmas in cult-like rigidity. The vast majority of people crying in terror of climate change haven't the foggiest idea what they're talking about and spout the most incoherent data like they found it written in stone form.
The reality is that the climate change argument most people make is really an argument for environmentalism, and they're not the same thing. Conflating the two and loading everyone up with bad data just maintains a scenario where no one is really conversing or finding solutions. That's actually why I invest so much effort in trying to convince people to be less zealous in their opinions.
I'm not really trying to change anyone's mind on a specific issue. I just want folks to get out of this habit of thinking they're right means someone else is automatically wrong. There's not a political topic out there that doesn't have REALLY good points on either side of the conversation. If folks would start investing more time in understanding the good points in the opposing view, then we might actually start coming up with solutions that don't suck.
Don't try to convince the other guy to your view. Try to understand why he's so sold on his. You'll be amazed at how much everyone starts hating you once you do.
Prove it .... With facts. Not with assumptions and defamation . It is obvious, you are Darek Smart. You stick out like a floater in the pool.
...of course, there are some people, @Phaserlight who are so far gone that you could be forgiven for not delving into the lunacy that makes up their world view. It'd require such a significant load of intoxicants that it would be medically unsafe.
Some people have an interesting definition of embezzlement don't they?
Well let's look at it this way. If you own a business and take money out of it, is that embezzlement? If shareholders own a publicly held company (like EA) and you walk away with $100 million of that money, as Derek Smart claims his net worth is after making all those successful games, is that embezzlement? What is the difference between writing yourself a check from your own company and misappropriating EA's money for yourself?
Seems like when Derek Smart and his sockpuppets point a finger, three point back. Always accuse your target of what you yourself are doing.

I think most people understand that, actually. At least I have no problem with the ex-employees wanting to remain anonymous. But their information about the more serious allegations needs to be accompanied by supporting evidence. Otherwise, we're left to just take their word on it, which considering they could say anything they want with impunity (because they're shielded by anonymity) I'm disinclined to assume their statements are fact. Anonymity to protect one's self is fine. But saying somebody shit on your lawn without even having a photograph of the shit? That's a little too much to ask.
I understand that, but in the same breath fanboy's are taking everything Roberts says as fact and what ever DS says as a lie and also what ever these 9 individuals said as lies with no proof.
The one point brought up that should worry the fanboy's where there is smoke there is fire. But they think GOD Roberts will never do anything wrong or lie to them. If you really go back in time and look at every word Roberts has said, you will find a lot of lies he told to people. But to fanboy's I bet they say oh he misspoke. That's just Roberts going off again.
This whole thing is rather sad because if Roberts would of held on to the original idea he had we all would be playing Star Citizen right now.

I'm so tired of this where there's smoke there's fire comment, apparently no one's heard of smoke bombs.
Edit: Also, if he stuck to the original idea you'd have DS saying he gave us a 2 million dollar game and charged us $90 million. You can't have the argument both ways, either you get a game worth the money or you don't.

I wasn't aware they raised 90M prior to 2014. Interesting.
No matter what CR does, it is virtually impossible for him to be charged with embezzlement.
It is a private company, of which CR is at least the majority owner, and it is funded with DONATED funds. Not invested funds, not borrowed funds, donated funds.
Embezzlement, in most states, requires a breach of "fiduciary responsibility", which is to say the obligation of a corporate executive to not "criminally or negligently" misuse funds that were legally placed in his/her charge by shareholders or other investors. Note, the key word there is INVESTOR.
While it is certainly possible to embezzle from a charity, CIG is not a charity: it is a business that accepts donations, so the requirements are very different.
So long as a majority of those funds are being used for the supposed reason they were donated, that is the end of it. CR can pay himself and others bonuses, take employees on "corporate retreats", and a whole of lot of similar things, and it is all legal. Were those "shareholder" funds, it would not necessarily be so.
So, no embezzlement.
More likely, in the case of SC, would be an investigation for fraud, which is something else entirely, and depending on which US state, at least certain of their behaviors might violate certain consumer protection laws, in regards to violating/non-delivery of promised products agreements, if certain "donations" were actually considered "purchases" under applicable state law. (And laws differ from state to state in the US.)

The only semisolid evidence are the steaming turds left on CIGs lawn by SmartyPants and the magazine that shall not be named. And they were caught with their pants down while doing it. That's published material.
I challenge anyone at this point, including big ol Mr SmartyPants to produce hard evidence of their claims; not hearsay by nameless people, but verified accountants figures, deposed witnesses by an independent body etc.. Again, guilty or not.. are not many of you guys people from a country that lives by the constitution and the individuals right to fair trial? Or has justice now descended into 'stone the bastard'?
Brenics.. if you had followed this closely you would know the hugely repeated CIG statement that the original dates were against the original scope. That has changed hugely since. One can argue CR should have stuck to that scope, but he and CIG didnt... and they publicised that stratgy heaviliy. Yet backers still backed.
And the employee pointsyou make. Name me one 300 person firm that doesnt have ex-employees whinging and telling tales out of school. C.mon give them at least a chance to make this game?
Sure, stop the crowdfunding now, fair enough. Seek a solid VC to fund it. At least that will shore up the holes shot in this project by people just like you, and show that CR has the game at heart.

^^ Never did I say this but that is how fanboy's play at SC. They are editing posts to fit their purpose. Then they go and edit it all out of their posts. Don't trust these guys they are fighting CR's way, dishonest.
I wasn't aware they raised 90M prior to 2014. Interesting.
WOW now you are editing my comments to things I never said. See why no one can take you guys serious.
I wasn't aware they raised 90M prior to 2014. Interesting.
They had $36 million in January 2014, and went up to $63 million by November. They stopped stretch goals soon after because Roberts said enough was enough, and they still had forum rage from people who wanted more stretch goals.
WOW now you are editing my comments to things I never said. See why no one can take you guys serious.

So by that logic The Escapist should be absolutely terrified as some people have pointed out discrepancies in the information some of these aforementioned 9 individuals gave them. I've stayed away from the vetting of sources argument as I find it to be just a dog chasing its own tail, but if your theory of if there's smoke then there must be fire is accurate then maybe those sources actually are a pack of no good liars out to ruin a companies good name. Nice how making pointed accusations without facts works isn't it. What I say doesn't have to be true it just has to seem true enough for others to incorporate it into their own predestined narrow minded view of the world.
"Today I made an appearance downtown I am an expert witness, because I say I am And I said, 'Gentleman, and I use that word loosely I will testify for you I'm a gun for hire, I'm a saint, I'm a liar Because there are no facts, there is no truth Just a data to be manipulated I can get any result you like What's it worth to ya? Because there is no wrong, there is no right And I sleep very well at night No shame, no solution No remorse, no retribution Just people selling T-shirts Just opportunity to participate in the pathetic little circus And winning, winning, winning'"
The facts are just as reliable as any Roberts has made. You can't call all these people liars yet say CR is a saint and is telling the truth. Which is exactly why this is becoming really bad for CR. It looks and smells like he is sending out his attack dogs to attack anything he doesn't like.
Even going as far as editing people posts to fit what he wants said. Anything to make CR look good.
