Top 5 will definitely contain: WoW, EQ1, SWG, GW (1&2 will count as one? Or only one of the two will make the top 35?). But the other top 5 is difficult to predict, you have so many great title left. Probably CoH in my opinion (CoH is definitly a genre definers, as it's the first super heroes mmo) or maybe Aion, but ESO should not be in this top 5 in my opinion...
Throw out the old defunct games. And the older ones and then rank them in add's that have ran,or are running here and i wonder how the top 5-6 list will compare
Is that mean? naw i do not think so. Maybe not intentional to the people picking them even. But seems the top 5 will be games that are mostly going okay now and that appear on a lot of add's.
Bias i think but i wonder if it is just that the add's work? Even on, or especially well, on the people that run sites like this. Either intentionally or not?
A lot of out of sight out of mind going on?
Titles like the greatest MMO's of ALL TIME...well maybe that is a good reason to limit these type things to games that are at least 10-15 years old. Have stood the test of time and really have the "time" in them that the title suggests.
Just some thoughts...we will see when the next lists comes out:P
Based on games I like.
1 to 3. GW2 very innovative, best underwater combat I've seen in a game, level to content means 100% of the game is open to max level players.
WoW also innovative when it first came out, some people may not like it but it has the most players of any MMO and has held on to that title for the longest.
Marvel Heroes great turn around. One of the few games where you can run into Devs actually playing the game and enjoying what they've created.
WoW although a decent game has never really been innovative by any stretch of the word. When a company invites the top raiding guild of EQ (at the time) to the corporate headquarters to help them build raids and work on grouping. It really doesn't spell out innovation to me. So, could you please enlighten me on what WoW did differently at the time then other MMO's decides the fact that it was easier even at the beginning then its competition.
Finally, waited a whole 2 weeks for this. You guys are a week late!!
Anyway, I'm surprised FFXIV is this low on the list. But I'm telling you guys now. GW2 is #1.
LOL some of these comments here "I don't agree with this list so it's a failed list." HAHAHA get off your high horses kids. Go play more MMO than your precious one and then maybe JUST maybe you'll have enough qualifications to actually get coffee for the people running this website.

I don't know man... There always were and continue to be many things about WOW that weren't done in my preferred way: cartoony, too much zany humor, underdeveloped PVP... many more.
But I can't take away from the fact that it has been at times a very fun game with interesting and varied class mechanics, a world that felt huge and especially Blizzard's willingness to change and adapt with the times (some would consider the end product of that a bad thing, but their willingness to change is, IMO, a very good thing.)
It's not my favorite nor do I do any more with it nowadays than just drop in for a short visit after a new expansion, but it has dominated the MMORPG market for a decade for good reason. IMO, no other MMO deserves number 1 more than WOW.

EVE and DAOC are not even top 5 guess I don't need to read part 2 I have played tons of mmorpgs and immersive and playable are my priorities. I would even list EQ pre $ony as my other top 3
Wow will be number 1...simply because if it wasn't for WoW you wouldn't have 90% of the MMOs that are out there today. EQ should be number 1 or 2 because it's the one that started making MMOs cool to play.

I cant disagree with you but the reason I would be sad if it won 1st place is because as much as they made the market we are in today with so many MMOs, they also made the market we are in today with so many cookie cutter MMOs. They really are the best and the worst of MMOs all in one package. But they did eat up 6 years + of my gaming time lol. Only other game I played that long was EQ1. My heart still loves EQ1 more.
Half the people posting probably never played some of these games, or completely biased toward some. This list is for amusement purposes and nothing else, so I would not sweat it.
Bingo. Plus it's voted on just by writers. What I'll likely do is take the 35 when we're all said and done and host another survey to have the community rank theirs and compare.
5. SWG - it was well loved, but also kind of a mess that ruined itself long before the NGE/CU 4. GW2 - very successful and much loved, but didn't become the new king 3. SW:TOR - like GW2 very successful still, but didn't cure cancer or revive Jesus 2. WoW - hail to the king baby 1. EQ - because most of the games on the list wouldn't be here if it wasn't for EQ
The funny thing is, ESO was already ranked #1 for 2015 by this community. Yet, here we have 50% of the comments being anti ESO. I think the community as a whole is bipolar.
You said it yourself: 2015. This list is all-time. Huge difference. Huge. Especially considering the golden age was almost 15 years ago now.
Wow being #1 overall seems right, for all its flaws and having copied EQ, it really put MMO's into the public arena and influenced an entire generation of gamers. I still play and still love the game for what it is, not what is not.
In this type of lists, I would not take the order of the rank very seriously. Depending on what you prioritize more, one game can be on top of other and vice-versa. Just to be included in the list is enough. I can only asseverate one thing: WoW should the number 1. My personal nº 1 is SW Galaxies, but no other has been so good and has achieved so many things like WoW has.
Meridian 59? have you gone bonkers? Few have ever played the game let alone trying to credit it as one of the top tier games. You are seriously delusional with that choice.
Never even heard of this game until a few years ago, it was that obscure. At least Utlima was available in the game stores, Meridian 59 certainly was not.
Makes no difference that it was the first MMO, NO one played it.

Why were the previous lists not included in the OP? Can the final article have links to all of the lists.

“It's unwise to pay too much, but it's worse to pay too little. When you pay too much, you lose a little money - that's all. When you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything, because the thing you bought was incapable of doing the thing it was bought to do. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot - it can't be done. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.”

Well there is the problem because most writers don't actually play most of the games they write about either. They play something for a day or a week and write all kinds of biased opinions to suck up to developers. No real MMO player would put FF14 ahead of DAOC, that is just idiocy. Neither GW2 or SWTOR should be in the top 5 either.
Top 5 should be EQ1, DAOC, UO, SWG and WoW in some order that people will base upon their personal preference. You could make an argument for AC or EVE in there but they never really had as wide of an appeal. Meridian 59 is a MUD, so I guess I don't even think of it in the same category.
