What's this constant reference to "ego" all about? Some people seem constantly offended by something about ego, but it doesn't really make sense without the context.
Ego is exactly the right word. There is a lot about SC that strikes me as one man's vanity project.
A lot of great things have been just that. Not saying a lot of bad things haven't been just that as well. Hell one guy I can name is responsible for offering both, within the same franchise.
You could look at Wasteland 2 as being that for Brian Fargo, it turned out rather well, (even better with the Directors cut on PC, less bugs). MGV could be looked at in such a way as well.
Vanity (or pet projects as they're normally called). Are at times the magnum opus of a persons career. Or the end of their career or oversight of said property.
Ego is always going to be a part of someone in such a positions portfolio, it just comes with the territory.

True, that vanity projects can go either way... but vanity projects without any oversight, without anyone to reel in the excess or veto poor decisions... in my experience they tend to end up bad.

I backed SC for $60 for the sole reason that I want to see what Crowdfunding is capable of producing with the big $$$. I like the theory of artists and developers being able to develop good games where the return on investment isn't job-1
For me it's all about Artistic freedom.
Sadly the greed/money sides of things as per usual is just going to fuck it all up. And with that statement... I'm talking about Crowdfunding as a whole and not just Starcitizen.
Well am going to follow the game now to see if it makes it or goes up in smoke! Right now am leaning toward up in smoke but only if it is true they only have 8m left and they have blown close to 90m on what they have, it doesn't look good for them. Time will tell but no one not even backers can say CIG has the money or not. Going to be very interesting in the next few months.
Yeah, but they are all lying when they report something against CIG. Make up your mind StarCitizen-followers.
Have fun!

Having less people raging about it right now is no evidence that "everything they eluded to was shot down or proven wrong by using simple logic and facts." When something else happens (another article comes out, a law suit is filed, someone invests in the company, etc) forums will explode once again.
The hypocrisy in your comment is pretty mind blowing. It would be nice if, when you propose that logic and facts are the reason people are talking less about Star Citizen right now, you would at least use logic and facts to support your case.
>>> the reason people are talking less about Star Citizen right now, >>>
Judging from the almost 100 press articles in the last week alone (check Google!) there was rarely a time where there was MORE talk about Star Citizen than in the last 7 days. Keep in mind that for every article there is usually a forum page e.g. the GameStar article(s) about Star Citizen last week had around 50 pages of comments. And thats only one of the 100 websites reporting about SC.
Not too mention the official forums and reddit, with thousands of posts each.
Is there ever "enough"? Has not been a stretch goal in long time needing more cash.
So why do they continue to need 2-3 more million per month for a game that should've been fully funded a long while back?
Want me to really believe in this project? Simple, say we will stop selling anything we have more than we asked for or need.
If they take another year or 2 and another 30+ million or more, then someone lied somewhere along the line.
Pretty simple to me.
This is an odd position, a game being fully funded, and a company needing revenue are two different things, kickstarter is just a means to get a game/company off the ground, that doesn't mean they'll never need funding again or regular everyday revenue.
They have no live products, all they have is SC, if all the money goes into the game, how in the world do they stay in business as they await a return on that revenue through sales? What do you expect, a company to dissolve after the work is done?

It's not a trick, there's nothing to bite. I don't understand the anger coming from some people over what they term as ego. There's something underneath that that isn't being stated when people are talking about this. Lots of people name their family businesses after themselves, and that's basically what Roberts' venture is so far. Large corporations are often named after the founder as well, but that doesn't really attract this kind of ire.
Maybe it has something to do with that instinct that a lot of people have to pull their fellow crab back down into the bucket. Once a fellow crab is big enough, it is no longer in the same level of the hierarchy and is not fellow. Then it gets special exemptions and doesn't have the same social rules applied in people's heads. There's a lot of low instinctual behavior going on that people don't even realize, forming into two tribes and attacking.
There are a lot of assumptions about "sides", attacks on constructed figureheads, back and forth among the hoi polloi. People putting their hopes and dreams in the ability to live in a virtual world (probably because their future in the other world is uncertain or uncompelling, through no fault of theirs), people who want to destroy a video game for various reasons, people trying to make a fast buck off others by reselling virtual items.
It's a circus that really has nothing to do with just making a video game. Everyone else brought that baggage with them and are imputing it on the small company that is making a product. Some people think it's drama, but a lot of people find the whole circus annoying. And nobody likes clowns.
ure in jail buddy, cant take u serious, btw theres a funny guy behind you.

Even when (if) SC does release in what 2 3 years, the gfx may be way out of date, but we will see.
They will not be out of date.

Well no amount of SC fanatics' salty will change the inevitable, so go feel free to report my posts over and over again, havefun (and that bunch of off-the-deep-end zealots). My posts mean little in the long run, as the game would speak (or mumble and croak) for itself in due time.
Just a matter of time to see how this SC debacle pans out. No matter what though, Im either gonna enjoy the released game or (hoping for this though honestly) enjoy the cosmic train wreck which this Chirst Robers Scheme becomes.
Still having and going to have so much fun though

I was banned for pointing out the obvious faults in a game 2 months before it released. Now after release, repeating the very same words from back then would be like preaching to the choir on this site.

You know this is the most honest and reasonable post about the game to date, well done!

I backed it for the game (since I loved the original concept of Freelancer) in spite of the fact that it could damage crowdfunding and/or PC Gaming.

If that's 2-3 years, you are a super optimist. If it was 23 years, you are sort of a pessimist.
If you are holding out for the perfect game, the only game you play will be the waiting one.
