Good concept, not surprising at all thinking of the profit open-world RPG games made this year (Shadow of Mordor, Witcher, Fallout) and the interest Star Wars receives right now.
But.. EA. You don't want to hype yourself with a game made by that company.
given the history of Star Wars games and revial of things we think developers understand (John Smedley) there is every reason to only believe it when you watch reviews on it already having been completed.
if you hype on this you only have yourself to blame if it goes bad.
wait...plus an 'open world' game that has hired a 'writer'?
oh this is going to go badly
I don't think you know what that word means. What about Open World would inherently make you think no writer is needed?
A new game being developed but only a concept with a story board so far. A development schedule of 3 to 4 years.
Y'all take the negative/positive approaches and spend the next 3 years arguing about who is right. Give me a call in 2018 when there might be something playable.
"I used to think the worst thing in life was to be all alone. It's not. The worst thing in life is to end up with people who make you feel all alone." Robin Williams
I'd prefer something like KOTOR 3. Most "open world" games severly lack something. Be it Skyrim, Assassins Creed or anything. Like, i played Shadow of Mordor recently. It's hailed as the "best Assassins Creed since a long time". It was fine and all, i loved the combat. But even ignoring the obvious errors in the story when comparing it to official works, the story was still lacking, including the representation.
Give me something like NWN or KOTOR over Skyrim or AC or anything like that any day.
I'll wait to the day's end when the moon is high And then I'll rise with the tide with a lust for life, I'll Amass an army, and we'll harness a horde And then we'll limp across the land until we stand at the shore

I like that you guys are taking the "let's be negative about it before we know anything about the game and hope to be surprised approach". I'll do the other one, and hopefully we'll meet in the middle.
OK, agreed. We each have our roles.
I will not purchase and/or play another EA game, by any of it's subsidiaries, after my experience with SWTOR and KotFE.
Shame too, I could get sooo hyped over this game if it was under anyone else but EA. I wish I could be positive about this, but that was not meant to be.
Have fun guys and gals. I promise not to rain on your fun, I will make sure this is my one and only post about this new game.
Of course I will check it out, but none since Pre-CU Galaxies has had any staying power for most.
Classic SWG gameplay with end game battle fields. Skill tree, not level based. Zones shared by all levels. Player made crafting economics and reason to stay on when not fighting to create community... They have a great chance. They will have to make it attractive to not only heavy gamers but the casual person that just wants to play in the SW universe.

For the FORTH TIME I will say
'there is a difference between hiring a writter and hiring the lead writer from Uncharted.
A HEAVY (as apposed to a non-heavy) story telling game (like Uncharted) is different that what works ok at best in a Sandbox.
Do you understand the degree of difference here I am trying to illustrate.
Its a direct sliding scale, the better the story, the worse the sandbox, the better the sanbox the worse the story. Key is to find middle ground between the two however the two structures are in DIRECT OPPOSITION with each other for reasons I have already stated twice now
Please do not respond to me, even if I ask you a question, its rhetorical.

If it was BioWare making the game would be super hyped, even Bethesda would be great. But yeah bias against EA kills most of the hype. and yeah just remembered BioWare is part of EA now but their writers are still around. The SWTOR story elements are great from what ive seen and heard. Wish they would do a true single player RPG again.
Why would you be hyped if it was BioWare lol, they were just as bad as EA when it came to swtor. On top of that BioWare have never made an open world RPG and i remember them claiming swtor was open world when it clearly wasn't.
Have to wait and see. Kind of silly to be negative about a game you know nothing about. EA does put some nice games out occassionally.
I for one had a very negative experience with EA and Bioware in regards to SWTOR, so much so I have no desire to ever be their customer again.
If you've had a different experience, a positive one, then that is a good thing. Please use your own experience rather than base your decision on mine.
Because for me being anything else but negative in regards to EA Gaming is not only silly but quite foolish.
SWG greatest game ever haven't even gamed since it was shut down .... tor was crap and not true open world.... it reminded me more of a final fantasy game then star wars.... I can one hope the force is with this game
If they had made an open universe single player game like Fall Out, ESO, Witcher et al and just made planetary DLCs or expansions they would be gazillionaires by now. Yeah the worlds would be 'instanced' but so are some parts of Witcher and ESO, not sure about Fall Out. But each new planet would or could be just a whole new game. At least a continuation of the story and a bunch of new areas to check out.
MMOs are dead, MMOs are now basically solo games with chat. Thats about it. They all suck and no one plays them for more than a month. Just read the boards.
Not to mention they really dont make any money unless they dont exist but just sell concept art for 2500 a pop. Witcher 3 cost 80 mil (which is a lot) to make and sold 6 million (@ 60 bux a pop) copies its first 6 weeks. Only MMO to sell that over their LIFETIME was WOW. Since then its prob sold another million or more copies. How many copies of a Star Wars universe game sell?
But make it different than the previous franchises where each new iteration was separate a la ESO. I always said they should have made an ESO that 'modernized' all the previous areas and connected them into one game. And not made that abortion MMO.
Basically think Everquest 2 with about 50 exapnsions but solo player and each expansion was a new planet a bunch of new races and mobs and a bunch of different story lines.
But a great game like that will never get made because these guys are too stupid to do it right. (had to keep with the negative)
I guess the present hype is about new Star Wars rpgish game. The fact that it is years away , produced by EA (nickle&dime hell) and has some form of open world, which today is a very broad term, doesn't really excite me that much.
Some here even assume its a MMO, where does it say that?
I almost got hype, then too realized the MMO missing in front of the RPG. Never got to participate in SWG thought this was the closest shot I was gonna get =(
Saying this with nothing but love and respect for SWG: we won't see anything that is Star Wars with that kind of depth or freedom ever again. I had an hour or two of fun on Battlefront Beta, and this game may produce 4 or 5 hours, but to live in the Star Wars universe is an MMORPG activity that is opposed by the industry and their simple game enthusiasts. Best to let that dream go.
MMORPG players are often like Hobbits: They don't like Adventures

DLC for Battlefront or Battlefront 2... i don't expect anything close to a RPG people are thinking of from a studio that makes shooters.

This game will be p2w mark my words, this is ea. :(
Even if it isn't, they will still mess it up somehow. Disappointing.
