Combat?  Personally, I see it as a waste of multiplayer gaming's potential, not the essence of it.
You miss the fact that almost all mmorpgs after EQ are hack-n-slash progression games?

MP gaming is about combat .. there is little else players are interested in. Those who have been touting RPing ... how many playing these games are actually interested in that? I haven't met any (since EQ, and before I quit grouping).

It's funny; I don't see CD Projekt Red offering the opportunity to pay an extra 20 bucks to level Geralt to 20 immediately and skip to the final 4 missions of the game.  As far as I know, the DLCs don't offer that either.

DLCs .. is exactly how you can skip content. You skip by not buying it. Sure, WOW ask the player to PAY to skip, and single player games let players skip content by putting content in little chunks called DLC which are optional.

So the only difference is the business model (and you can ask Blizz why their business model is good .. but hey it is blizz they can do anything). But the bottomline is that you can skip content in games with DLCs.

There are loads of reasons to play mmo's that don't involve grouping. It has all been explained many many many times. Anyone that still believes that there is no reason to play an mmo if you are going to solo is choosing to be ignorant.
EVE offers choice, and while I group up to to PVP almost 100% of the time.

When doing mining or ratting its about 90% solo.

I've always done lots of soloing, even back in the day with DAOC.
While i think Eve is a very boring game, it does have some choices between soloing and grouping. Choices are always good. The only complaints I have seen about choices (like LFD) is that some are not happy players take the side of the choice they don't like.

Well .. it is a free world. No one can force others to play games in their ways.
